    Just remember, "looks" aren't everything. If you are apprehensive about your "gift" having a long lasting emotional effect, try these 4 tips I learned while locked up at Leavenworth. #1: Timing. "Gift" very late at night or early in the morning. This is the time they'll least expect it. #2: Lighting. Low light or darkness will help conceal any imperfections in your wrapping technique. #3 Location. Try to find them in a place with few people around and maybe in a corner. #4 Eye contact. It makes a personal connection. The longer the gaze, the more they will know how intent the gift is. For best results, never break eye contact until you are finished and walk away. Wishing you the best! Cheers!

    Glad I’m not the only one who coordinates the wrapping paper each year with the theme I’m using to decorate
    ! First job was at a photo developing company as a touch up artist where I learned how to mix paints much like watercolors to use a tiny paint brush to cover up any white spots that showed after the developing process (lint or scratches on a negative). It was VERY tedious work but rewarding too.

    • @themadeupokie
      @themadeupokie  3 роки тому

      I actually know what you’re talking about! A couple of years after my wrapping job I worked in a 1-hr photo lab. I had to learn how to color correct the photos (with a machine) based on looking at negatives. And that’s where I met my husband, who’s a classically trained photographer. I’ve helped him in the dark room on many occasions. We even had a dark room in our previous home, before digital took over. Thanks so much for watching and sharing!! Happy holidays!

    Loved this! I am a sucker for a well-wrapped gift and love making homemade name tags. Another tip if someone doesn’t want to buy two different tapes is to fold the layer that goes on top under a little and tape it down on the inside instead. It hides the tape, but doesn’t require multiple types of tape. But I think I’m going to try the double sided tape this year. :)

    • @themadeupokie
      @themadeupokie  3 роки тому

      I love the idea of handmade name tags. I typically don’t use them because pre-made ones never look up to par. But making them would solve that! And I love your tip for using single sided tape. Thanks so much for sharing! Happy wrapping!!

    I always bring the paper to the edge of the box. Front and back look good and patterns not matching not a problem. If I wrap ribbon around the box I only twist it in front so the back ribbon is flat.

    • @themadeupokie

    I don’t like to tape the the box. It isn’t necessary unless you have cheap paper. Also fold over all edges before taping to make it less likely to tear and adds heft to the seam

    Very nice, crisp wrapping....EXCEPT....you should never tape paper to the actual gift. When the gift is opened, the tape can make sticky marks or tear a nice box. AND, most people can't cut a perfect line...that's when you do a small foldover on the edge that overlaps the other.

    I wish I would have seen this video prior to buying a pretty glittery wrapping paper!
    It's so think that nothing sticks! The tape, bow and tag keep falling.
    Any tips?

    • @themadeupokie
      @themadeupokie  3 роки тому

      Such a good question. Maybe one thing you could try is do what you need to get the wrapping paper taped down, even if it’s using something like packing tape. But put it in a place that you can then use a coordinating easier-to-use second piece of wrapping paper as an accent you wrap around the present (and strategically cover where you had to tape the difficult paper down). Hope that helps! I know how pretty that glittery paper can be. Happy holidays!

    • @themadeupokie
      @themadeupokie  Рік тому

      Good question…I actually avoid it where I can, but when I must, I cut a small piece of the wrapping paper, fold it in half so it creates almost a small card with the blank interior, then use double-sided tape to tape it down to the present over the same pattern of the wrapping paper so it blends. I have friends that do scrapbooking and stamping and have clever ideas, but I’ve not spent the time figuring out something I like yet.

    What do you do when the gift is really heavy? I had to wrap a kitchen aid mixer and the paper was tearing left and right because of the struggle of me trying to maneuver the box.

    • @themadeupokie
      @themadeupokie  3 роки тому

      That’s a good question. This is a case where using heavier paper might actually be helpful. You’ll have other challenges such as getting the paper to stay taped down, but might be the lesser of two evils. If you don’t have (or want to get) heavier weight wrapping paper, then secure the wrapping paper onto the box with more tape so it doesn’t try to move when sifting around the box. Or just slap a big bow on it and call it good! 😉 just kidding. Hope that helps!!

    My first job was working in a woman's boutique clothing store. I pretty much spent all my paycheck there before I even got my check. ;) I steamed all the new arrivals and got them on hangers, tagged them and put them out on the floor. I also did the wrapping of any gifts. I vacuumed, ran errand to the alterations lady and when needed, even worked at selling clothes. It was really a sweet job for a 16 year old. I worked there the whole time I was in high school and sometimes on college breaks. I loved how you did the bow. I'm going to go check out your other video now. Thanks.

    I’m from Houston and starting my Christmas wrapping today. My hubby & I usually wrap together but I need to at least get started today without him. There will still be plenty for him! My very first job was at a family friend’s shop that was a pharmacy/post office/cosmetics/Hallmark gift shop! Yep, all in one. I worked a week at the cosmetics counter my first week until the owner’s mother returned from vacation. This was back in the 80’s so every one of us girls had to be critiqued by his mother to see if she would allow us to work the wrapping station in the gift shop. Fortunately, I passed with very little training needed before she turned me loosed wrapping the gifts. (As a girl I loved wrapping gifts with my mom every Christmas) I loved that job!!! I don’t buy any cheap wrapping paper... the first thing the owner’s mom taught me was that if you didn’t have good quality thicker paper then my wrapping job would look cheap. So hubby doesn’t go with me when I buy supplies. I knew most of the things you showed in your video... but your tips really helped me with the ribbon. Thank you for sharing this video. I’ll be looking into your other videos! Stay safe & healthy. Happy Holidays and have a very Happy New Year!!!🎄
