It totally blew my mind when the prestigious, upper class highschool in my neighborhood, attended by nieces told me of friends "walking" classmate to classes on a leash bc that's how they identify -as furry - it blew my mind! I said they were lying and this dinner topic conversation was flabbergasted. I later had to apologize to them for calling them liars. It was exactly as they stated. I'm sorry I didn't listen to these kids when they spoke to tell me. In blowing them off I hurt them. That was 3 years ago. It's still a thing today. The day the biology teacher identified as, an amphibian, in particular a frog, the kids got pulled out of that school. And I live in upper class Texas with that highschool hosting 5000 kids and hold the academic standard of 'A'. It's allowed 'as a statement of personal identification.' I can validate what she is saying as we have witnessed this first hand. No joke.
