    Your garden is amazing! What pleasure to walk through it & admire your hard work paying off! If you were trekking through Europe you'd be missing all of this---maybe that's the pay-off for having to miss your trip? My pet rose, Cadfael, does not take after his namesake, who must have been an early riser to attend Prime, at sunrise. He prefers to sleep in until there is some serious warmth & sun, but then, oh my. Yours may be a bit sulky b/c of the transplant, but once he realizes he's free, I'll bet he takes off like an angel rising to heaven! As Always, so delightful to hear your voice in the morning & see your roses as they, too wake up.

    Rain and wind for you, 90 to 95 degrees fahrenheit all week for us here in Ohio, my rose leaves are saying "ouch!", I feel like Aquarius the zodiacal water bearer, never go empty handed always a bucketful or water can full of water in tow! 😃😃1:20 The comfrey tea bit is interesting, because 50 years ago my aunt planted comfrey here at home and it has gone wild, even going downstream far and wide. 1:16 The Sceptre d'Isle has wonderfull little cabbage roses on it, that fine Victorian or Redoute look! 💓💓 4:03 Nicely quartered, i love quartered roses, 4:18 A nice big, handfull of Pomponella, very much like my Francois Rabellaird except that Francois is a much deeper red. Francois has very little fragrance, more like a fesh, clean scent of laundry dried on a line under summer sun. 4:50 Wow! Pomponella is quite ambitious! 5:45 Oh! In January, we would be more than happy with a sight like that! 6:06 In my opinion, Earth Angel is THE BEST "modern" rose. She is not troubled by short heavy rains, but an entire week of rain/wet, she will ball/mummify, Roedoute never has a cabbage rose as perfect as Earth Angel. Anyone uncertain about growing her, get yourself one, she is indescribably gorgeous andher fragrance is generous old rose with definite grapefruit in the mix. Kordes outdid themselves with this one.💓💓 7:45 I want an Ethelberger! Probably not available in the USA. 12:14 Yes, I choose plants primarily for fragrance, my African Queen, Big Brother, Conca D'Or and Mrs Schlieman are taller than I am and loaded up with huge buds, THEY create a large cloud of fragrance. These oriental lilies are must have. Thank you for sharing, it helps us to decide what to grow.🌹🌹🌹

    I forgot to comment on Gav's lovely photos. Aicha was a new one on me - I see it's got a strong fragrance too. Whiter Shade of Pale is a very beautiful and fragrant rose. I bought Apricot Queen Elizabeth last autumn on the strength of the JParkers photo, but mine so far looks more like Gav's, a stronger coloured yellow and red, but I still like it as a shapely rose - maybe if we see any sun, the colouring will get paler!

      @@gavinparry5426 Hi Gav, Yes the JParkers £6 roses can be a real bargain - that's where I got my Sweet Honeys - and a lot of other roses. The problem is that over the past 2 years I have gone overboard a bit on the rose-buying front and really have too many roses (did I really just write that?) for the size of my garden. The idea was to try a large number of roses and keep the ones I like. But you need to grow them for a couple of years at least to judge, don't you? And actually getting rid of a rose is a brutal wrench! I still have a list of roses I really want though, but my wife's tolerance is wearing thin. You should have seen her face when a rose arrived yesterday, pursed lips and "the look"! Fortunately for me it was a Father's Day present I was not responsible for, so I escaped unscathed, unfortunately it was not one on my list, but sometimes a rose you don't know can turn out to be amazing, and a rose you really wanted can be a disappointment. Anyway, recommendations are always welcome - I am still compiling my list!

      @@gavinparry5426 Yes, Gav. I bought Elizabeth 18 months ago. I really loved her last year, but she's been a bit covered up by other plants so far this year. I moved her pot this week to give her more space to do her thing - she seems to have bulked up quite a lot this year, so hopefully more flowers! I had a look at C&K - they seem to have a good selection.

    Morning jayjay. Fantastic roses as always. I like your idea of a reduced amount of rose tonic. I have to admit I stopped using it as a lot of the david austin roses didn't like it and got leaf scorch, so I'm going to try a half measure as the black spot is appearing since stopping. I went to david austins and came back with princess Alexandra of kent, a hydrangea and Gabriel oak. Gabriel oak grabbed my attention all day and I loved it in david austin rose garden but since getting it home it's just too bright for me lol. I think I will lift it and pot it around the side of the house lol. I planned bringing home Olivia as always and Emily bronte, but came back with neither. Huge regret and feel I've wasted my money this time. The hydrangea was not needed, and Gabriel oak coaxed me to buy it lol. I will never learn my lesson and I will have to go back to rectify my mistake very soon 🤣

    • @Jay_Jay
      @Jay_Jay  8 днів тому +1

      H Davena, before you lift Gabriel oak just consider the fact that if temps were in the 20’s or above now the sun would be diluting the colour on many of my DA roses. I was meant to say this in the video but forgot! The lower day time temps 12-16 degrees is good enough for fragrance but cool enough to magnify the colours of the da roses I believe. Yes the weather this year so far playing into the hands of many da roses I honestly believe that. I could be wrong but I’ve never seen such deep colour hold steady from my da roses. An ordinary year there would be an amount of fade which sometimes helps, sometimes hinders. So consider that. Sorry to hear about your purchases but I honestly think youve got some cracking roses there. Something to think about anyway.

    • @davenadainton4209
      @davenadainton4209 8 днів тому

      @Jay_Jay thanks so much for that. Princess alexandra of kent is lovely as an aged rose but the young buds and blooms are again too bright for me..that did in fact get moved the next day and looks so much better in its new location, now its not staring at me through the patio doors 😂

  • @vorong2ru

    My Penelope isnt doing great this year too, I think it's just the weather. "Kordesias" are known to hate any foliage sprays and they do get very specific type of fungal disease from it. Love your Eustacia Vye! I wish mine looked like that, but it's tiny and won't flower much for whatever reason...Emma Hamilton is my best performer this year, just a ton of flowers and fragrance from it 😱

    Absolutely gorgeous roses! My Westerland is just as clean leafed as yours but i find here it doesn't need spray. It is growing under a tall evergreen tree that has been limbed up, so it gets 9-11am and 4-7pm sun. Mine has a few less blooms per spray but with less light and tree roots under it, i'm not surprised. My Gertrude is down to one cane due to black spot killing her. So in a couple weeks i will shovel prune her and plant Scentuous in her place. I have a big bag of garden soil to replace the soil ill remove per your expert consultation. I found your 100 pound fee very reasonable and hope you enjoy the 100 pound gift card to Kordes Roses! "folks i'm joking" She is a grafted rose and i'm waiting for her canes to get long enough to use my deep planting method. I'm still toying with the idea of doing a short video on UA-cam and Instagram for it. I hope you try one rose that way and see for yourself how wonderful it is to have a grafted rose live for more than 10 years. Have, a lovely day!

    Looking good, Jay Jay, despite the recent weather. Luckily it's early in the season so we will get a lot more new growth over the next months. Yes, I noticed my Elizabeth had really bulked up this year too - looking less like a cheeky little girl and more like Queen Elizabeth I with her huge billowing dresses dotted with Tudor roses. I've moved its pot a bit to give it more space. Gabriel Oak and Eustacia Vye are real workhorses - I just checked and they were both released in 2019 - clearly a golden year for new roses. Last year my wife was always saying she disliked EV because of the yellow centre, but so far this year that has been almost absent so far - is it the weather, the season or maturity in the rose? Talking of colour, I was getting confused last autumn because Sweet Honey was pink (I checked my videos taken then) - why name a pink rose Honey? - but this spring it is clearly yellow/apricot. Roses are just so unpredictable, taking different shapes as they develop and different colours at different times in the year, and scents which come and go from hour to hour. Anyway, you have some lovely roses there. You keep on showing me wonderful roses I haven't got, tempting me to buy them - keep up the good work!

I can relate it with Edwardsii/ Neumann rose found here in India which is believed to be result of hybridisation of Quatre Saisons and Old Blush and very fragrant or I can say all day fragrant. You can relate Gertrude Jekyll in modern rose have all day strong damask fragrance.

    Hi Jayjay. What a lovely video . Wonder if Donnas fav flower is because vase life? Ask her for me? Or color? I’m gambling it on case life.
    Your roses look absolutely amazing ! I just filmed a video but have not posted it as of yet due to the fact I was trying to feed and water before the heat set in! It’s going to be a hot one today.
    I also have loons fairytale ! Not in a standard and it hasn’t bloomed for me yet. I got it as a bareroot late in season. It’s looking pretty good except the saw fly got to it. It’s rampant here in these parts.
    I like when you give us alternate names to the roses . Thanks for that!
    Now I see why you said what you said about my eden. I honestly think you should put it in ground! With a support . Perhaps an obelisk ? Think about it. You know Sherlock knows her shtuff. Hope your alternate plan works out for you. Tell Donna I said hello. I like when she pops in!

      Hi Sherlock, :)
      Yes uetersen is her favourite for the colour I’m sad to say. I rarely cut that rose for cut flowers I couldn’t tell you how long they last. But it is a rose that you will see gets packed with buds. The flowers still look good even when they are past there best. (In the garden at least.) I hope you have good luck with yours. Eden rose yes mine is potted. Sadly I don’t have room for it in the ground anywhere. I tried it in part shade in the ground but it didn’t work for me. So it went potted. A great rose and one that’s seeing its second flush now. I’m still very happy with it despite it being potted. Great flowers as you well know. I look forward to seeing your new video. 🌹🌹

      Hi there. Yes Audrey Wilcox I have two. I went to the garden centre one day looking for my favourite rose on the day and Audrey Wilcox was it! Mine should be much bigger but I do have a habit of cutting it for friends and family. Great rose. Thanks for dropping by. :)

    Hi Jay... I don't know about Earth Angel...due to the wet weather in Ireland...it does not fully open...it's a pity cause it looks lovely in gardens in USA...My spicy parfuma performs better even in wet june weather.

      Hi there. I’ll be honest I’ve never heard of mini floras. But 4-5’ sounds decent size to me and I do like grandifloras. :)
