I do think of it as Venti's inspiration coming through the pain and suffering of his friend, to create another musical tale as a bard. Artists often use emotional torment from inside to enhance their art, bringing emotions closer to the audience and I think that is what could go on in Ventis mind. No matter the hard the challenges ahead in life, it always must go on. Of course that is only my interpretation. Hope I can inspire your thoughts, Marco! Lots of love from Germany.
Perhaps it’s to do with Mondstadt having some connection to time. I am not gonna say much so I don’t spoil, but you can find a sun disk in Mondstadt in the Thousand Wind Temple Ruins (it is important as it gives hints to the story).
Maybe its like time pressure. We kind of have a time limit to save Dvalin before the Abyss Order would be able to take control over Dvalin and corrupt him to the point of no return. This battle against him might have been the last chance to get through him and save him.
@@iamhumanOWO There's a behind-the-scenes video for the music of every region so far, published on the official UA-cam channel. This was said in Mondstadt's video.
@@iamhumanOWO Was about to reply but the user above this comment said it faster. The first Behind the Scenes video they released 2 years ago, around the fourth minute. You mentioned the ticking of the clock, I don’t know how relevant this is but hidden in the Genshin lore there’s reference to a goddess named Istaroth who’s the god of both time and wind, she’s referred to as “the thousand winds”. Venti, before becoming the Anemo Archon, was a wind spirit, referred to as “a single thread of the the thousand winds”. So Venti could be connected to the god of time in some way (I personally think the implication is that she might be his mother in a sense, but that’s just a theory)
This is just me spitballing here but now that I’m thinking about Istaroth, if the ticking is meant to be a reference to her, maybe that female voice in the background could be her, crying out in despair that her children are in pain or something like that I could be overthinking it though, maybe the female voice is just Venti singing to try to comfort Dvalin and then the deeper male voice is Dvalin eventually reaching out to join him

I love this humming so much in this theme. It's said that Venti and that God of Time were worshipped together at some point, so it's quite interesting that you mentioned exactly that.
Nowadays we'd all love our scara boss theme, signora boss theme, etc. But gotta be honest, this theme was the one that brought my love into the game in the first place.

Man I never took early quest stories of Genshin too seriously but now as I listen to you explaining the music I really is able to appreciate more the lore and the music. 😢
Dvaliiiiin! how I get sad fighting this dragon boi. This was a mix of emotions, honestly Genshin music just keeps on evolving as the game progresses I love it. the typewriter sound reminds me of how the composer (Evan Call) of Violet Evergarden uses it in his songs for the anime and makes it a motif of sorts, experimental music like this is always pulse because of how they use other instruments that isn't musical and somehow blends it in so well or is subtlety present but not overtaking anything. *looks at all the videos Marco uploaded* ... looks like I have a plethora of videos to watch since I missed a lot.
I don't know if there's any real meaning to it, but I always noticed that there are two verses, one is being led by the soprano which is clearly meant to be Venti, but even in the first verse you hear a male voice but it's faint, almost like it's someone who's forgotten the song but trying to remember. Then in the second verse, it's much more prominent, and I don't know if it was ever discussed somewhere and pinned down but I get the impression that the male voice is Dvalin coming to his senses. Fully ready to accept that I'm wrong but in lieu of actually knowing the answer, this is my interpretation.
This theme is the reason I got into the game, so it’s very nostalgic for me and even to this day I thinks is o e of the best pieces of music in the game
So sad. Unlike the war between scaramouche and kunikuzushi you can hear in scaramouche’s boss battle theme (I just came from that video) I feel like you can hear the plaintive duet between Dvalin and Venti in this piece. The higher and lower voices follow the same melody and weave together in agreement of pain and sadness rather than conflict. This is one of my top favourite genshin songs and I keep coming back to the Dvalin fight because of it.
The second time the soprano sings her part toward the end she's double not only with the cello but also a male voice gently accompanying her witch makes it more impactful as well. I always pictured it as if the twin was singing along in her inner voice, giving more purpose to push on. Anyway, always nice to have your insight about these songs. Thank you!

I don't know if anyone mentioned it, but since Mondstadt is inspired by Germany, you could argue that the organ is fitting since it's currently our online country that's in the center of Christianity. Venti is Jesus
Thank you for reacting to this! Absolutely loved this piece so much because of how intense and dire but also tragic it sounds. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I do believe that the vocals come from Venti's CN VA!
Love this one, however each new boss theme is better than the last and I find it fascinating. Don't remember many games with this quality to music in every track. You could put the entirety of Genshin OST right now (what would give us around 12 hours after Sumeru?) and listen to every track no question asked. And they're all amazing.
I interpreted this as Dvalin's inability to control himself. As much as he doesn't want to fight an old friend and wreak havoc all across Mondstadt, he can't do anything about it, since he's being controlled by an outside force. The bittersweet melody from the vocals represents this internal conflict. The vocals themselves act as the voices calling out to him in hopes that he comes to his senses. The tick tock may represent Dvalin's gradual descent into darkness, and at the very end, it ends in a climax, since nobody knows what's going to happen. Did the voices win out? Or was it all for naught?
Ah well there's many thing to be said about this lean dragon who for some reasons still doesn't have coop capability but at least he isn't the forgotten wolf that everyone just pretend he doesn't exist because there's no teleport waypoint near him
Asking again for Oath to Order from Majora's Mask, Theophany's version. I think it'd be amazing to see you react to such an enormous and complex expansion on such a short song.
The particular rythym with the continuous notes probably comes from accenting and honestly it's very cool. I adore genshin music, I really wish I had an orchestra to play it with because that part sounds so fun to play as a lot of genshin stuff does
This was the first time, when I had to fight Dvalin for the first time, that I stopped and thought to myself "damn, THIS is all for free??!!" Have been letting genshin music guide me throught the game ever since
And what about the odd tempo of the introduction. And the timpani marking the rage of Dvalin in t'he second part. And the suffering humming of the vocals. And the pianissimo of t'he string section when t'he winds sings.
Just a personal bit of feedback but I massively prefer the parts where you pause to talk to NOT have any music in the background since it distracts from what we're here to actually listen to and discuss. I lose my immersion every time 😭
Yknow, i may be seeing a pattern here, venti and dvalin, zhongli and azhdaha, ei and the shogun puppet, those are battle between either old friends or different selves, nahida will probably have one of those after we fight scara in sumeru archon quest. Anyway, fight between venti against dvalin and zhongli against azhdaha signifies the will of the archons to make the friend to remember, like "i will have to do this, its my duty as your friend as well as your archon". It really is apparent in the music, although portrayed differently in venti's case than zhongli's case.
marcoo, could you please react to nahida demo boundless bliss trailer🥺, i really enjoyed your reaction and music dissection, though i understand that you're sometimes not in the mood, so no pressure, i do hope you keep reacting to genshins music videos, your analysis were always spot on and terrific 😁👌
I really really recommend listening to "Inevitable conflict", the chasm's battle theme and in my opinion, the current peak of regional Genshin battle themes along with Swirls of the Stream. I feel like you would love the hell out of it as well.
The ticking clock is very thematic considering that it is hinted that the nation of wind is also the nation of time. As the nation is littered with mysterious abandoned timepieces and sundials from a bygone age
This boss theme and "Shriek and Ori"(from Ori and the Will of the Wisps) are boss battle themes that makes me feel sorry fighting the boss. Especially with the music in the whole Stormterror's Lair area, feels bad man.
I think the ticking is hinting at the various hints of the god of time you can find around Mondstadt and I think Venti knew him but he was lost during the Archon war maybe we will get some follow up story on that one day
Everytime i hear this song all i can depict is like you are fighting your former friend/best friend. And everytime the sopranos sing it depict all memories between you and your friend on your journeys until the end part of song. now you determined or show your will to fight him/her to your fullest. Thats what i get from the vibe from the song
everyone keeps saying that Andrius's theme is great, but no one talks about this masterpiece. I don't care, this is my favourite boss theme, along with Signora and Azhdaha's!
I love your use of the words “everyone” and “no one”. Yeah, absolutely true. There are better, less extreme and superficial ways of sharing an opinion, you know? Nah you probably don’t.

Your taste is so unique that apparently NO ONE talks about this masterpiece =)) You could have just said that it's a little bit underrated, or should be more popular than it is, but no. It has to be "no one does this but me"
The beginning of this piece is such a pain to try to play because of its time signature of 13/8, which could be seen as alternating 6/8 + 7/8. I noticed how it (understandibly) gave Marco a little trouble nodding along. It is such a subtle way to convey being torn and troubled. Then it settles on 6/8. Because of the 6, which is one-two-three-one-two-three, it is somewhat 'round', in the same way a waltz is 'round'. Together with the ever rising strings it gives you this feeling of an upward spiral of the wind, of a developing conflict, and of a spell being cast. It's otherwordly. I started playing Genshin because of this piece, and it's still one of my favorites.
End of Heavenly Boundary (or Boundaries) feels like what happens with Dvalin at the end where Venti "breaks" the boundaries with Dvalin so he can be free as he should've always been. Considering that Venti is both an Archon and god of Wind, the term Caelestum has double meaning of Dvalin being free from Venti and free like the wind.
I love how the Word to Word Translation of "Caelestinum Finale Termini" is In German: Celestines Finale Bedingung (Eng: Celestine's Final Condition) as if it would be the Final Battle, Celestine (Old Latin Girl Name meaning Heavenly) would indicate Celestia and its the Final Condition of what exactly? I dont know... but these Little Details make me smile.
the ticking sound could very well refer to venti and dvalin's old friend, the God of Time. we don't know a whole lot about them, but the god of time is also known as Kairos or Istaroth. Kairos both helped build the "sun" in Enkonomiya, and was worshiped at the Thousand Winds Temple in Mondstadt. It was said that they ruled Mondstadt side by side with Venti, until they died in the archon war. Ironically, because of the passage of time, the god of time was eventually forgotten, especially since Mondstadt's library got burned. For a bit there, no one believed that Mondstadt had an archon until after the Dvalin quest. And, in Liyue with Azdaha, there's a big emphasis of "eroding" away and becoming something you're not due to the passage of time. Dvalin, like Azdaha, is immortal, and the ticking could be a reference to how even an immortal only has so much time. The tales of Istaroth aren't ever said or spoken of in game, this is all by reading through weapon descriptions, artifact descriptions, and a book that you can get in Enkonomiya. Not a whole lot of people know about it because of that reason, but lore nuts like me tend to go, well, nuts lol there's a lot of little things in genshin that add a lot to the story and world (like how the crimson witch artifact gave the story of signora, and was in there on launch. it's only when we pass through all of Mondstadt and Liyue, did we figure out who she was) Fantastic videos as always, Marco! I love watching your reactions, they brighten up my day :)

i just saw this! i still go to Dvalin bcs i haven't crowned my Diluc yet and honestly i don't really like it when i have to fight Dvalin bcs i keep remembering the story. the song is just too sad for me. the whole story abt Venti and Dvalin and then Durin... Monstadt is hiding one giant tragic lore and we're just given a fraction of it. I NEED MORE. we're not even finished yet with Mondstadt. (still waiting for Venti character story vol.2 btw mihoyo..)
Hey Marco! I would highly recommend checking out some of the songs from Dragon's Dogma. There's some great ones and I'd love to see your reaction to them. I'd say Imminent Triumph, Clash of Fates, Selection of Fate, and the main theme Eternal Return are all great songs.
The ticking clock is also in the end of Andrius's boss theme (the wolf), and Tartaglia's boss theme. It feels like an undercurrent of "Time's running out". Neither Azhdaha's music or Signora's has ticking at all. I haven't listened to Scaramouche's boss music enough yet to discern whether or not ticking is present. The Raiden Shogun's boss music has what sounds like heartbeats in hers, which is a way of measuring time, but it lends a different interpretation to her song.
I always take my sweet time when doing this boss (as well as during Wolf fight phase two) just so I can listen to the soundtrack, I really like it. Wish we had more chance to interact with Dvalin post Archon quest, he's a side character that could be developped more! I mean he's a dragon, how cooler can you be xD
Crazy how even though this is the theme of the first Genshin boss, it felt like the peak the game has to offer/deliver and never ceases to impress. 😘🤌🎶🐉🌬 Definitely the Prologue Archon quest is what sold it for me and why I fell in love with this game to begin with. Everything from the vocals, humming and etcetera gave that feeling of lightness and hope (like the wind) but also a sense of foreboding dread and despair, and overall the very notion of peace and freedom in Mondstadt hangs in the very balance.
After your analysis, I finally understood why it was almost physically difficult for me to fight Dwalin. It's not so much the terrible mechanics of combat (I hate it!), but the fact that I have to beat my friend and everything in me resists this.
When people say Mond cant compare to Liyue music wise I really become the spongebob wife showing husband patrick meme (?) with this and Andrius theme as the last panel
Marco hey I love your videos! This one is my favorite from Monsdtatdt, you should listen to the vogayer shimmering and the travelers footstepts discs...
All these genshin music videos have kinda helped convince me to finally try the game, has been fun so far and I'll hopefully listen to your videos on it's songs as I get to them. This stuff is pretty great.
1:18 my music teacher once said he likes listening to music (classical) over watching movies because he likes to interprete the music and guess what comes next, just to be surprised when something unexpected happens. In movies you kind of need a build up or it's an a**pull xD But in music you can change the scene and do unexpected things all the time.
I really wanna hear your opinions on the difference between Dvalin's theme vs Azhdaha's theme. Me personally Dvalin's feels like a fight to reawaken someone, to bring them back from the darkness that is consuming them, meanwhile I feel Azhdaha's is more of trying to seal a beast that has been consumed by that darkness and there is nothing else we can do but seal them
to me, between 4:38 and 4:52 it's dvalin talking about his sadness, and wood winds instruments after that sounds like venti being related to this sadness from your old friend, like a dialoge. then in 5:23 they start to understand each other.
In my opinion, the strings has some kind of "A sad omen" purpose. The whole soundtrack feels like this and I think the strings are just want to keep this tension up, it doesn't really moving the feeling higher, rather keep it in a place to not to drop at 3:38. Though those strings has a great purpose, because it helps to keep that wonderful mood of the music, it literally keeps the tension on a level, like, preparing the stage for the sopran singer.
Still curious about this typewriter sound. Besides adding a fantastic layer to this theme.

The particular rythym with the continuous notes probably comes from accenting and honestly it's very cool. I adore genshin music, I really wish I had an orchestra to play it with because that part sounds so fun to play as a lot of genshin stuff does
Besto Boss Theme in genshin. You can hear the Typewriter in the background and still find it so funny and amusing.
WAIT THAT'S WHAT DVALIN'S THEME IS CALLED?
Wow I never knew this
I feel dumb

Day 111 of recommending Stay Gold from the Arknights OST
Just fact.
This game. Is. FREE.
All you need to do is just download, log-in and play. On PC, PlayStation or mobile devices.
Incredible!
This was the first time, when I had to fight Dvalin for the first time, that I stopped and thought to myself "damn, THIS is all for free??!!"
Have been letting genshin music guide me throught the game ever since
I love this theme... when the humming comes... i just love it.
For the next GI analysis, what about this one which was played in Xinyan domain this summer ?

marcoo, could you please react to nahida demo boundless bliss trailer🥺, i really enjoyed your reaction and music dissection, though i understand that you're sometimes not in the mood, so no pressure, i do hope you keep reacting to genshins music videos, your analysis were always spot on and terrific 😁👌
Actually my favourite piece of music of all monstadt (even though monstadt is my least favourite city)
The humming voice remember me of horizon zero down theme song.. Idk exactly which one, but i think ive heard of it.
Daballin
React to Gallant Challenge Liyue battle 3
That's top tier
I have to be that type of guy that corrects everyone and say Venti means wind.
everyone keeps saying that Andrius's theme is great, but no one talks about this masterpiece.
I don't care, this is my favourite boss theme, along with Signora and Azhdaha's!
also Dvalin is my favourite "familiar" in genshin too. his story is sad & he is a dragon! how can you not only like him!
I love your use of the words “everyone” and “no one”. Yeah, absolutely true.
There are better, less extreme and superficial ways of sharing an opinion, you know?
Nah you probably don’t.
@@enfreenity4291 I'm so sorry for sharing my opinion in comment form with grammatical mistakes, Enfreenity.
I sincerely apologise, I won't be doing this again 💔
@@ryu246 They're not grammatical mistakes.
"No one talks about this masterpiece" yeah sure. Your taste is so unique that apparently NO ONE talks about this masterpiece =))
You could have just said that it's a little bit underrated, or should be more popular than it is, but no. It has to be "no one does this but me"
@@enfreenity4291 yes, I'm indeed unique and no one does this, but me. thanks for noticing!
Before you started the channel, I was stuck in a slump, not knowing what way to look to find new music of my liking.
:)
Personally is a genshin classic and is hard ranked in my favourites list
for when andrius's 😎👌
Uh I did that two weeks ago lol
@@MarcoMeatball I just realized xD sorry
after genshin, i suggest you look at ACs music, like ezio's family, i think you will like it
It’s here!
is it just me? i feel the graphic quality of the video now is much better
There is a lut on the video that adds dynamic coloring.
I started playing Genshin because of this piece, and it's still one of my favorites.
suggestion, don't put bgm during pause. It's distracting.
I prefer it to silence
Not a whole lot of people know about it because of that reason, but lore nuts like me tend to go, well, nuts lol there's a lot of little things in genshin that add a lot to the story and world (like how the crimson witch artifact gave the story of signora, and was in there on launch. it's only when we pass through all of Mondstadt and Liyue, did we figure out who she was)
Fantastic videos as always, Marco! I love watching your reactions, they brighten up my day :)
Im getting Teared up everytime i see you Enjoying those Genshin Soundtracks cos i Felt exactly the same Listening tho shese Soundtracks. Especialy This one and the one from the Wolf Battle
i just saw this!
i still go to Dvalin bcs i haven't crowned my Diluc yet and honestly i don't really like it when i have to fight Dvalin bcs i keep remembering the story. the song is just too sad for me. the whole story abt Venti and Dvalin and then Durin...
I'd say Imminent Triumph, Clash of Fates, Selection of Fate, and the main theme Eternal Return are all great songs.
man sounds like joe rogan
You gotta do marana's avatar boss theme(before the light fades) imo best ost but may be biased because i love synthwave
This music makes me sad somehow
I'd love your thoughts on Jesper Kyds darktide songs thus far. Soundtrack is unique and a banger
Final boss-quality music to finish out the prologue!
:)
1:18 my music teacher once said he likes listening to music (classical) over watching movies because he likes to interprete the music and guess what comes next, just to be surprised when something unexpected happens.
In movies you kind of need a build up or it's an a**pull xD
But in music you can change the scene and do unexpected things all the time.
I always got so scared whenever fighting Dvalin at the beginning of the game 😅 plus with this majestic music
Though those strings has a great purpose, because it helps to keep that wonderful mood of the music, it literally keeps the tension on a level, like, preparing the stage for the sopran singer.
pls do karazhan ost!! from world of warcraft :D the opera house song especially is rly cool
“Venti doesn’t want to fight his friend”
That’s assuming he came sober.
IF YOU LOVED THIS PIECE, YOU SHOULD ABSOLUTELY REACT TO ENKANOMIYA’S OST!!!
It is my favorite music.
I still listen to this music while playing the Wonshin game. And every time I hear it, it's sad and amazing.
