Thank you so much!! I have been trying to get my xr to work with reason for so long. even talked to someone at akai and they told me I couldn't use the midi for that purpose. great video man!
The difference is between 1/8th ( consumer / iPod size plugs ) and 1/4 ( guitar / pro audio / stage ) - you can find an adaptor between the two sizes at Radio Shack or any music store. Just bring in your machine and they'll explain.
MIDI does not carry sound, just the pressing of keys ( note messages ) , adjustment of controllers, etc. You need an audio-in to record the actual sound of most drum machines or synths, such as this XR20.
i have cubase 7 elements. and been a fan of your work for 3 years, i have a akai xr20 since i've looked up varies of artiest like you. but i have a xr cables that can connect to my lexicon which is my DAW and wanted to know if i can record the beats from the xr20 to cubase the same way you did with Reason.
The Fast Track Pro should work for you - it seems to have audio and MIDI. You will never "see" the name of the Akai on your list of connections, because MIDI usually does not carry a name for the machine it's connected to ( unless you type it ) I am not a particular expert with FL Studio, I mainly use Mac. Read your manuals and you should be able to do this with what you have now! Good luck.
Hello there, How can I get my AKAI Xr20 to work as a MIDI controller to Garageband? I've got the MIDI to USB converter, but seems to not be able to run it. Is there setting in the AKAI or in Garageband that I need to set?? Please help
Im using a roland tr8 with reason 9. I have the midi and audio synced but whenever the song get slightly complicated, reason says my computer is too slow. I am using a 3rd gen i7 processor with 16gb of ram so i would have thought this would be sufficient. Have you got any suggestions as to why this might be happening? Any help would be much appreciated.
@theflipside700 just get any amplifier and a 1/4' to 1/4' inch cable. Plug one side into the instrument line and the other into your l&r output or mono outputs of the xr20.
I have a question. I am having the famous problem that everyone has with the XR20: The "I can't hear the machine because I don't have speakers for it. Could you please tell me what kind of speakers that you are using? It would be much appreciated. I can't find any speakers that will fit the input on the back of the XR20 and it's really made me frustrated. Thank you very much.
Say that I have a bunch of beats that I already have made, saved into my akai xr 20 or any other hardware machines, how do I go about transferring them beats into a laptop computer, what wires do I need, what setting does the hardware machine have to be on, and then where do I save it, and what kind of file do I put it into, or is there anyway to put it into a daw by any chance? Could you please describe this in step by step plain terms as best as possible for a beginner like me, because I have been asking people but they tell me these things in a unorganized way that I quite can't understand. Thank you.
Most drum machines have no built in speakers, this includes the XR20. ( Actually it would be nice, but they just don't do things that way. ) Choose your speakers carefully - get pro "monitor speakers" if you can afford it.
Your batteries are running low,i was hoping it did not die while recording, lol. Save the batteries for when on the road or in tight spots and use the power adapter, lol
I HAVE A MININOVA SYNTH I JUST PURCHASED THE REASON BALANCE INTERFACE, WHEN I OPEN REASON SEVEN, MY MININOVA IS ABLE TO CONTROL THE INTERNAL SOUNDS OF REASON, BUT I CAN BARELY HEAR THE SOUNDS IN MY SYNTH, EVERYTHING IS FINE WITH THE INTERFACE I JUST CAN'T HEAR MY MININOVA SYNTH SOUNDS LOUD ENOUGH, I CAN BARELY HEAR THEM AS I STATED EARLIER, WHAT CAN I DO TO SOLVE THIS PROBLEM, I NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM WITH ANY OTHER INTERFACE, PLEASE HELP, THANK YOU, AND GOD BLESS...
I'm not familiar with the Mininova, perhaps you should ask the Propellerhead tech support / message board? Also, if things are unusually quiet ( some synths are ) you can boost their apparent volume by adding Compressors, or other FX devices in your DAW software. Good luck!
Looking at the VS2000, i'd say ( as with other non-laptop audio workstations ) - connect the MIDI OUT of the workstation - > MIDI IN on the Drum Machine ( to keep the beat sync ) And then the Sound Out of Drum Machine - > Sound In on Workstation. There you go!
lets talk like robots and have thumb wars all weekend long ima the man im the man im the man . assert the pressure chitt chitty bang bang i like to pronounce words with the tip of my tung and teeth with a modest pinch of a lisp, but i shoulda wrote this down on paper because its hard to do all this shit and sound cool as i make this shit up as i go along. who the fuck talks like his i talk like this o boy ima ace hole RESPECT CREECH NATION TIT FOR DAT ALL IN GOOD FUN NO HARMS DONE
still helpful in 2021. Thanks bro.

VJ Franz you just won over a new subscriber....thanks for the help I'm an FL Studio producer of all genres of music!!
You sir, have the voice of an angel.

Yeah, my friend uses KRK, they are good speakers for the money. Get the larger size if possible for more bass response.
dang your voice is so cool! you must be on the radio. Say "Simba!"
Great video! Thanks! But, are you a voice double for George Takei?
"We are approaching Planet XR 20, on main viewscreen."
+VJ FRANZ K what kind of audio interface equipment do you use?
Currently, Roland Octa Capture.
One thing to remember, no one has ever complained about not understanding George Takei.

Did you watch this video? ; - ) Buy a "USB audio interface" from your local music store, and check out a video for that specific hardware. Good luck!
keep the videos coming Franz K
quick question ?? do you need the audio interface or can i just use the midi converter to transfer my beats???
Did you ever find out?
VJ I have a very difficult question. Help if you could. Thanks.
ok, what is it?

do you need to buy speakers to hear the music or does the xr20 have built in speakers
Somehow you sounded like Morpheus. But here's question. Is there anywhere the AKai XR20 can use any our own samples or kits?
No, it's samples are locked in ROM. At least there are 700+ included
Dear friend, its possible to play latin drums in this machine? thank
There are probably some, though the main focus is Hip Hop. I would choose a newer machine or software now!
hey, are there any other patterns(sound packs) that can be uploaded to XR20? thank you!
it cant accept new samples
Just a doubt, can i put New samples on the Akai XR20?
no

It says low battery because I'm using recharged. Just the way it is...

I LIKE!!!!
I want to make a album/mixtape off of nothing but beats I make off this...
will the krk rokit 5's work?
please tell me how you have the xr20 working as a controller
use a MIDI out cable
do you have to have reason? I use music creator 6 do you think my akai xr20 will transfer over to music creator?
Any DAW ( Digital Audio Workstation ) app and any Audio Interface should work with a method similar to this.
+VJ FRANZ K I have a xr20 as well , using studio one as my DAW , and presonus audiobox itwo as my interface . how do i hook everything up
hi can i do this on fl studio or only reasons
should work with any DAW software, also Ableton, Cubase, etc.
How to use ROLAND VS2000.
