As a young child I remember my Grandfather (RIP)taking me to the tackle store shinnecock and my grandpa introducing me to the Shinnecock as a Tsalagee I felt inclusive of my indigenous ancestry as a copper colored first nation person
I wish I was Shinnecock, it'd be alot more easier to fit in with who I look like. Instead I'm apart of tribes who do not even want to be associated with people who look like me and here we have these beautiful red, caramel, brown skin families ❤
But my peoples came from Virginia and North Carolina so those tribes may actually be from there. They were moved during Indian Removal act to North West of Mississippi, between Choctaw and Cherokee territory, idk how that works smh maybe someone can help me see that better.
@Ice The Box Shinnecocks are very accepting. They don't kick people out for being Black like other Indian tribes. That's why the Shinnecocks continue to thrive. You don't hear about them being strung out on drugs and alcohol. They go to school get educations and get good jobs. Blessings to the Shinnecock nation!
Oh wow. Thanks for this video!! What a beautiful site. I felt so connected to them for some reason, it brought me to tears just watching. My grandmother looked so much like some of the elders - and her father (my great grandfather) looked EXACTLY like the elder men - I have been told we are from the Black Foot tribe…I wonder if I have some relation. I guess I’ll never know. They are beautiful!
The Shinnecock, like other Native American tribes, were known to offer sanctuary to runaway slaves. This was part of a broader pattern where Native American communities provided refuge to Africans escaping slavery.
As for the indigenous Niijis Americans aka so-called black Americans, our indigenous ancestor's powwows were different, we did march around in circles yelling aimlessly it had real meaning to it we must not do as they do our traditions were different.
@@626PSYKHO That would be the Pretendians, Hoteps and wannabe black aboriginals for the most part who disrespect and cultural appropriate or steal Native Identity. Some Afro Indigenous and Tribal Freedmen over zealot social justice activist call the Tribes anti-black because we don't give them special rights, they often bring up a tiny minority of Natives who did discriminate against Afro Indigenous and Freedmen and over exaggerate, calling most Natives and Tribes anti-black. However, most Afro Indigenous People and Freedmen, and Natives get along fine. There are tens of thousands of Afro Indigenous people and ten thousand Tribal Freedmen enrolled in to Tribes across North America.
The Shinnecock tribe has lived on Long Island for THOUSANDS of years and they’re related to other nearby tribes so how are they a “fake tribe?”…As far as regalia … LOTS of dancers at Pow Wows seem to use bright colors and synthetic material instead of natural materials … That’s not something only being done at the Shinnecock Pow Wow..
I don't doubt this is any different than the same thing a thousand years ago. The music is "how, hey, hi" - the same music that Indians get upset about sounding stereotypical (chanting and drum beating). The clothes probably haven't changed for ten thousand years - lots of feathers from birds that Indians claim are protected. More clothes and eyeglasses that were probably manufactured by white men. All for "Pow wow" - a term that Indians find offensive. Just think - these people are honoring their ancestors from thousands of years ago - and their descendants will do exactly the same thing years from now - and yet no one will have contributed any significant development to humanity anywhere.
Proud shinnecock right here

So when Native Americans marry people of other races .. it means they’re not Indigenous anymore?
