I remember very vividly being in the pub watching THAT try. It felt like the whole world erupted into chaos.
There is a try he scored in the British Lions tour against Australia in 2001 when he turned Chris Latham in and out.
The commentator said in "5 yards of space"
Robinson was also very precise at presenting the ball on the ground when tackled. However, Shane Williams had a much better strike rate of tries per test than Campese, Lomu, Habana and Robinson, in a side which was not as strong as those of any of the others I mentioned. So, Shane for me.
My absolute favourite English player.
Jeremy Guscott first said Robinson shouldn't play for England, then when they started bringing him on as a substitute, he could only ever be that and as an impact player and he should never start a match as Robinson will never which lines to run. Oh how he proved Guscott 0:03 wrong. In my humble opinion Robinson is the best rugby player England have ever produced, he won just about everything in Rugby League and then took Rugby Union by storm playing a key role in England winning the World Cup and went on 2 tours with the Lions.

Hard as nails small, could step off both feet, very quick. His try against Wales (?) was outstanding. Beat the whole team nearly

@@dougsaunders8109 It was finished by Greenwood, but Robinson made it. He just hit the gas and went straight past about 6 welsh defenders, then offloaded for Greenwood to go over in the corner.
I'd say Wilkinson would be hard to beat, along with O'Driscoll, Cullen, Carter... But Ben Smith is the best in my eyes... The greatest all-round back in the history of the game.

He was a class act, but I'm not sure that you could even call him England's greatest winger, never mind greatest back.

Rory Underwood was pretty good. David Duckham would have been the best but nobody ever passed to him. (English Rugby Union players COULD’T pass the ball in the 1970s.)

Robinson was a two format player. Union and League.
Carter would have been smoked at Rugby League.
These Tries do not tell 1% of his talent. But there is no greater ever.

Is he the greatest back to play Union - no. Is he the greatest back ever - possibly. All those saying no, take a look at his tries in League. There were many tries he scored that were much better than any he scored playing Union. So overall, he could be called the greatest ever.

Christian Cullen is the GOAT
No. He is one of England's best backs, but he is in no way Rugbys greatest back. There are entire lists of All Black, Springbok, Australian, French, Welsh/Cymru, Irish, etc backs who are truly contenders for that title.
No. Even as an England fan I'd pick Cullen over Robinson every day of the week.
In only one of those tries did Jason do something extraordinary. I can name at least 10 other international wingers that have scored better tries.

He was good. But not the greatest ever. That belongs to the 2x World Champion Cheslin Kolbe.
Lots of young idiots who don't seem to know Jason Robinson and just picking players they've seen too many highlights videos of. These are just world cup highlights and a poor reflection of Robinson.
Robinson had ridiculous talent with his great step, acceleration, could always beat multiple players every time he ran, and even kicked very well at the end of his career. He was the best player in a Baa-Baas team featuring Nonu, Smith, and Giteau that beat SA in 07, and the best fullback of 2007 in an England team that barely got themselves together. He ran through players with ease.
Lomu, Cullen, Robinson, Williams, Habana, Caucaunibuca are the greatest back 3 players I've witnessed. No point discussing greatest back because all the positions are too variable.

Most overrated player....ever. 4 out 5 tires were scored from 10m out. Had quick first step and agile with burst speed. But had no top end speed hence most of his tries were "flops over the line" he used to get caught by cover defence far too often. The less said about his hands and kicking..... oh and his constant running with the ball in the wrong hand
He is a great, but not the greatest back in rugby.

in answer to the question, no........the best back in rugby is your 10. simple. Robinson was unreal, but picking him over Carter or Wilkinson in terms of game impact. If Robinson has a good game, he may score a try from nothing granted, but a 10 wins you the game or conversely can lose it for you. Just my 2 penny worth.
