This 1997 release features the original members of Santana band of the late sixties. It features original vocalist Gregg Rolie, drummer Michael Shrieve, guitarist Neal Schon, Michael Carabello on congas, Jose "Chepito" Areas on timbales and Alphonso Johnson on bass. Carlos Santana declined to participate in this reunion. rewiew from amazon.
In my opinion Neal was at his very best in the 90s...Hardline, Paul Rodgers, Abraxas Pool, Trial by Fire, Beyond the Thunder, Eletric World ....after Voice and Arrival he was never the same ..everything was just kinda rushed and it became more how fast can i get this done over the quality....i always go back and listen to his 90s work and I'm still amazed
I used to work at this record store and we used to receive new merchandise every Thursday. The day this album came in, we only received one copy and I took it home with me. As soon as I saw the titles of the songs and the names of the musicians I paid for it (without even listening to it first) and went out to the parking lot to put it in my car before somebody else felt like buying it.
Abraxas Pool became one of my favorite albums the moment I heard the first chords. Love the whole album but if I had to pick a favorite song I would’ve to extend it to at least four instead of one. Szabo, Waiting for You, Don’t Give Up and Going Home, in that same order. But still, this album is a Masterpiece from beginning to end. Favorite Santana album Abraxas and favorite song Incident at Neshabur but really anything Santana is a favorite. Like so many of Santana's songs, ZSABO was written to make love to that special someone. It has a mood setting chapter, maybe a bit of wine to start things off. Fore-play, the-play which leads them both to ecstasy, after-play to recover for the next round unless you have my age when you go to sleep for a couple of hours before jumping back on the saddle. In any case ZSABO is pure eroticism..
Thank you for appreciating Incident at Neshabur. I think it is the best thing Santana ever wrote/played and I am a Santana fan to the bone. I have everything he has ever done, including with McLaughlin. I think Incident at Neshabur should have been turned into a whole concept album!
@@alexiscorner2840 That song was part of the soundtrack of a documentary on the Vietnam war. Very impressive scene with these choppers flying really low dropping bombs and the music full blasting. Pretty scary too.
I saw this band at the Fillmore CA 1996, I met them all except Greg Rollie. The doors opened at 8 and AP didn't start till 12:45 am, by that time I was three sheets to the wind, and barely remember the show!😆
This is great stuff! The whole Abraxas Pool CD is as good as Santana's 1st 3 albums. But my favorites were the next 3 after those. Caravanserai, Welcome & Borboletta...for me personally, they were sheer BLISS!!
This album is pure Santana i close my eyes and it's 1972 again. I am not to familiar with Welcome and Borboletta but i am very familiar with Caravanserai and the albums before. I don't know if you have a personal favorite Santana song. But mine would have to be Flor D'Luna (Moorflower).....
i found this cd in the "used cd" section, it's amazing, one of my favs, i play it all the time. especially track 6, szabo, one of the best jazz guitar players of all time.
I remember when they first were Journey and I am also disappointed about the direction they went in. They made a lot of money though. Which I could find an inexpensive copy of this
when I first heard this it was a sunday morning at work on WRKR during the jazz show, monday I went out and bought the cd...Gregg Rolie and Neal Schon, helped form Journey after 4 successful albums with Carlos Santana
TIL about this band. Wow! I wonder Why it took me this long. I have been a fan of Santana since the woodstock performance, though not a Santana band completeist. Nice

Spotify does not have this album. I bet the family jewels that Santana told Spotify if they had the only album Abraxas Pool made that he would not let them have his music. Why? Because when they did this album Santana was pretty much doing nothing and when he asked to be a part of it they told him "no thanks".
Just became aware of Abraxas Pool around 4 years ago. Basically the personnel is original Santana members from the 3rd album i.e. , the Santana band without Carlos Santana !! I do recall that Carlos got busted trying to smuggle some marijuana from Mexico to Texas in the early 90's.Was wondering if that had any affect on him not being on these sessions? Obviously they couldn't record useing the Santana name for legal reasons. Kind of like the legal dispute between War and The Lowrider Band, I mean if you want to see the original group War you literally have to go see The Lowrider Band not the current band War with only one original member of the group War. Regardless of their name The Lowrider Band is War !!, henceforth Abraxas Pool is the Santana Band without Carlos Santana. Where was you at Carlos? We're you incarcerated for when you for when you got busted? What's up Devadip47 ? Set the record straight por favor.
Incorrect, it was Carlos that said, "No thanks". This was the Santana Album that never was, but should have been. Excellent album from beginning to end.
Carlos had a chip on his shoulders against them doing this, even though he was invited. IMO, this was best thing any of them had going at the time, including Carlos Santana.
Wow. Bought this CD in 97. It is just as relevant today. Neal’s best work of his career. Bluesy, moody, funky, and ripping fast fretwork.
This fucking album is THE BEST!!!!
Neal Schon smokin' and melodic guitar here! His trademark style is unmistakable!

My most favorite song by Abraxas Poole ever...
I guess thats who i would describe sunlight... a beautiful song😉
I think this one is a masterpiece, awesome...
One KILLER cut. Just a blow away track.

My favorite song on this album
The thing about Neil is you can understand every note he plays.
So fresh and fluid, a treat for the ears.

Music for the soul.
Excelent music!!!
THE LATE GREAT GABOR SZABO
That is how I hear it, like a beautiful tribute to Gabor Szabo played by Santana and his magic guitar.
How do I break this to you seven years after you made the comment, this is not Santana but rather Neal schon
