Great video. That low light focusing system is actually real, however not on this camera. On the Graflex Pacemaker line of crown and speed graphics with top-mounted rangefinders pressing that red button will not fire the shutter but will instead project two blown up images of the filament inside of a small bulb. You simply place your camera on a tripod, hold down the button, and turn the focusing knob until the two images of the filament align on your subject. By aligning the 2 projections on your subject you will have brought your subject into focus (given that the rangefinder is accurate since it just uses the mirrors in the rangefinder to project the image). This system is quite ingenious and just runs off of 2 aa batteries and went on to inspire quite a few other focusing systems in cameras such as the no-touch 2 beam laser focusing system found on Polaroid’s macro SLR cameras which uses the same principle but instead of the image of the filament it uses 2 laser beams that converge at critical focus. I hope this little explanation was helpful.

Actually the bottom holes are for a quick connect tripod bracket..although may also be used with flash bracket also.. the bracket came with my super graphic..very good overview of a great 4x5 camera...The poor mans technika.. the fresnel lens also makes a pretty good view on the ground glass..

I used the light triangulation focusing system on these as well as late model Crown Graphics. It absolutely did exist and presumably still does.

I learned so much from this video! I got a Graflex version of this camera last year and have just been plugging away by trial and error learning its ways. This video is like getting five years of grinding out of the way in under 20min. Thank you for your clarity and thoroughness!

Excellent information. I really enjoy your videos and once the pandemic is over, or maybe sooner, I am looking forward to buying one of your offerings. Best wishes!

Good video on a camera which is uncommon and gets almost no exposure. It was a product of a dying gasp from Graflex, trying to hold onto its prior domination of the 4x5 field camera market in the face of the 35mm SLR revolution. Even without a few novelties like the electric shutter release, it is a camera which would probably be more popular today than when it was made, given modern interest in large format work . It appears that those 22.5 volt batteries are available today, surprise me.

Looks like a small 5 Watts amp.

You need to learn the “dance” for using large format. The button for a light was on top rangefinder Crown Graflex. That is where that came from. I collect super graphics. Interested in buying.

Hello, I enjoyed your video on the Toyo Super Graphic. I have the Graflex Super Graphic, which I believe is the same. I am having trouble installing the rangefinder CAM. I know that the cam goes into the inside upper front of the body but I am not sure as to the actual position. Would it be possible to post a photo showing how the cam is seated in its proper position? That would be greatly appreciated!!! Thanks. Steve

I note that you said it only has a little bit of forward tilt. When making use of the Scheimpflug principle, do you only need a small amount of tilt anyway?

the fact that it has a drop bed but no focus mechanism for wide angle lenses is just pathetically bad engineering.
