This honestly might be my new favorite from Creeper.
I'm certainly biased since I showed up to a signing event for the album and had a great time getting to meet the band (and they are genuinely the friendliest musicians I've met in person alongside Rob Kersey and Philip Selway), but I have to admit, I can never have enough spooky, bombastic goth rock in my life!
Dam, this is actually by far my favorite album by them, but hey to each their own
This is creepers magnum opus imo 🎉🎉 fantastic album
This album really holds a special place in my heart as a major Anne Rice lover. There are a lot of references to her works, specifically Interview with the Vampire, hell she even has a book called Cry to Heaven (I have not read it yet, but it moved up on my list).
Really liked their latest album and EP. Their instrumentals are really good and both vocalists are amazing.
I'm really looking forward to listening to this, hopefully I'll like it.
Yeah I'll be honest, even as a fan of a lot of their earlier work, the singles for this one kinda underwhelmed me. They just feel kinda sluggish with much weaker hooks, and they don't have the ragged energy that drew me to their stuff before. And you're absolutely right that Hannah Greenwood deserves more to do, they could do so much with the interplay between her and Will. Idk, I might check this out but it's not as high a priority as I was hoping it would be.
I’m not one to pick apart music. If it’s sexy too my ears I’m hooked and most of there songs do that!
Been tossing around a genre name: gleamo rock = glam rock + emo rock. Obviously gotta add some metal to this one too, so maybe just… gleamo metal?

This band is so odd. Like their first album was absolutely amazing. And their second album was, I think ultimately as good, but took a lot of relistening to "get.
Then the EP was ok, with midnight being like, an all time great song.
Then there's this album. Just... boring, uninteresting. It felt like a bad tony bait musical.
They can have a damn perfect goth punk rock opera fusion. Of ragged, serious, emotional, even sexy music (imo just Midnight done a thousand different ways). They just need to do more to give their individuals personality to carry the music.
And we've been saying it for six years, they need to incorporate Hannah more.
This is why I prefer The Lion's Daughter over this album

Thank you! Someone else was let down by this album other than me. The thing for me is that, to me, Creeper felt like a band who were more influenced by those various theatrical Goth Rock bands, rather than a full-fledged pastiché of said bands. This was rather off-putting.
There's a personal reason this album pissed me off (involving our friend Steinman), but that isn't the main takeaway from this one.
Creeper is hitting the point that most bands that make wild shifts between records eventually hit. The impression I'm getting is that they are actors playing a part for 40 minutes, and they don't actually have a musical identity. What is the sound of Creeper? That's getting to be impossible to answer, and when I can't, I find myself being more disinterested in hearing them slap on a new gimmick each time out.
That could have been tempered if this was still a great record, but I agree with you that there's barely a hook to be found on 9/10ths of this record. No question this is their worst album.
What do you mean by creeper phasing you a la “steinman”. Not judging, just curious what you mean, as I genuinely am out of the loop lol
@@pumpkinspicetrashbag At one point, I remember seeing a mention in an interview that either the record was inspired by Steinman, or directly dedicated to him. Since only one song reminds me even in the slightest of him (the opener - the best song), and he's my musical hero, it felt to me like they were taking his name in vain.
Everytime someone talks about Creeper I just feel more and more uninterested in them that this album in concept lost me. Their style of campiness is not for me.
