@@Paigee000Dark comedy about a kid who lives in a deeply religious area who's being abused and neglected by his family. He tries to be a good Christian but always ends up doing messed up things after misunderstanding his father's terrible advice on how to do that, which is often just things he and the other adults made up for their own convenience/bigotry. Eventually he realizes he's being abused and the tone shifts to being more serious later in the series. Other character's lives are explored too.

Religious trauma in a nutshell:
This is one of the best dark shows I've seen in a while, sadly it was cancelled, why the best series are always the ones that get cancelled?
Because it was ahead of it's time and Adult Swim didn't like just how dark this show was willing to go.
Was just too dark. I think the Alone episode was the nail in the coffin for it

Religious trauma is one of the best weirdcore themes, especially the nostalgia of being a kid and watching Christian children shows of varying qualities and themes and humor.

@@alchemistofsteel8099 It always was pretty dark but 1 and 2 season were mostly comedic. Then AS cancelled 3 season for being too serious. We could have 2.5 more seasons if not the cancelation.

Orel learning hatred, and still using that hate to lead a better life than his father was a great way to end the story. There is no greater revenge than being happy despite the pain someone has put you through. It weirdly vindictive in a wholesome sense

I miss this show so much. Canceled all because Adult Swim of all stations got uncomfortable. When that it the whole point of the show. To show that not everything is okay even when you believe in a god.

This show is like a roller coaster of emotions. I’m younger so I take it upon myself to not watch it but my parents always thought of me as mature and don’t care what I watch. It’s truly amazing to see the characters development and plot twists.
Tbh, I was the same way as a kid. I watched adult shows and UA-camrs as a preteen. Imo, it really depends on the emotional maturity of the person if they choose to consume media like this. Some kids can probably understand the heavier aspects of this show while some grown adults may not. It depends on the kind of media you like to consume. If I had to give an age, I’d say 15 is probably a good age to start watching this show. I think kids younger than 15, like middle school age, can probably understand it okay, but considering the show’s triggering themes I wouldn’t recommend it. Some stuff in this show is hard to watch even as an adult.

The easter episode goes so hard. Everyone is just hopeless even orel. I wish I was as strong as orel. He took the abuse and didnt let it stop him, his faith, or his happiness. Cant say the same for myself. Lost my faith but maybe I could find happiness elsewhere?

I feel like the audio- the transitions- everything just represented the dark plot of the show and I rlly do think it’s beautiful. It has a nostalgic feeling to it and it shows the empty, spaced out feeling of “love” the “family” has for each other if that makes sense. Keep up the great work^^

@@Ilikelids I think there's a better way to summarize. so there's this kid Orel, right? he lives in a small fictional town called moralton, where everybody is christian and flawed in their own way. orel's family is the worst example of this, with his neglectful mother and alcoholic father, his father being the main antagonist of the story, as the show progresses, Orel becomes more open minded and starts to hate his father.
