The survivalist's story is so heartbreaking and well written it makes me even more mad that we are never going to get that kind of story in a Bethesda game ever again.
There's hints of it in Fallout 76, where Bethesda's B team were allowed to work without Emil or Todd over their shoulders 100% of the time, but nothing that pound for pound matches John Gonzalez's work
@@Prototype-357 Obsidian is really woke in 2024 so unless the original New Vegas DEVS can do a New Vegas sequel then Todd Howard will screw it up like Fallout 4 or 76
Honest Hearts sits in a weird spot, where it fits the New Vegas region and fleshes out a fair bit of worldbuilding, but it also has no narrative reason for the Courier to engage with it. Old World Blues and Dead Money have you stumble into situations you can't get out of until they're resolved. Lonesome Road is directly tied to the Courier's own story. But Honest Hearts? You know up-front you'll be away from the Mojave for weeks at minimum, ostensibly on a caravan drive all the way up to Utah. And even though nothing in New Vegas is REALLY on a timetable, most of the narrative impresses on you as the player that time is at something of a premium as tensions between NCR and the Legion continue to rise. It really feels like you're buggering off into the wilds and leaving the Mojave's problems to settle themselves, which would fit really well for a DLC set AFTER the main story but not DURING it. Just a personal pet peeve I've always had with HH. The DLC itself is gorgeous.
This is true, but at the same time there is no narrative reason for the Courier to be very invested in the fate of the Mojave or the outcome of the conflict between House, NCR, and Legion. The Courier’s dog in the fight is revenge against Benny/completing the delivery, everything else is just a job same as the reason for getting involved with the Honest Hearts DLC.
It seems like every game or DLC you play where you’re trapped in one region, the video has a “I’m not trapped in here with you, you’re trapped in here with me!” vibe.
People give bethesda too much credit imo. Skyrim was never great, but it was fairly revolutionary -- back in 2011. They just haven't learned anything or improved since then, and 13 years is a long time for it. New Vegas being NOT a Bethesda game really shows in everything about the writing and RPG mechanics.
Damn they knew about Datura! Thats awesome. Ive also been to Zion national park along with MOAB and Bryce Canyon. Went on a hiking, camping and mountain biking trip. Saw awesome slot canyons with waterfalls and creeks and rivers. One of my fav trips.
This is obsidian.....though to be fair, Bethesda had quite a few good dlc's! "Far Harbor" for Fallout 4, "Shivering Isles" and "Knights of the Nine" for Oblivion, both expansions for Morrowind, Skyrim had good dlc's, and even Fallout 3 had pretty dlc's!
If anybody's interested, you can get to New Vegas by leaving Neil's Shack, you can 100% avoid the two super mutants, find an opening with a dead NCR trooper and bear traps (watch out for the falling rocks and boulder) cut left past the broken radio antenna and drop down (there is a low chance to encounter a Deathclaw) and if you know the way to El Dorado substation, with Helios One and Novac nearby. I've done this with every playthrough at lvl 3-4
Technically, Obsidian, since Bethesda was mostly just a publisher this time. Bethesda still butthurt how Obsidian made NV to be most played and loved game, unlike Fallout 3 and Fallout 4.
Specially considering what they pulled with that metacritic score mess, cutting Obsidian out of their rightful money cause the game was too buggy when it was Bethesda themselves who forced them to put the game out unpolished.
