- I found this in the reduced section in Tesco - I think it really really wants to be weird a bit more than it actually is...

The "About Us" blurb on the website reads like AI wrote it, especially the "We are a unique independent brand that triggers you to buy--". That's really unnatural. And weirdly translucent with their marketing? Dunno.
For sure
Chatgpt
I feel like it's trying so hard with the "look at me, aren't I so weird?" vibe that it comes off as pure marketing all the way down.
If it had a TV commercial, the only audio would be ukuleles and whistling.
Like reading a Deadpool script. "Ooh I am so wacky and random hehe laugh now please"
See I dunno about everybody else, but when I see that sort of thing I make it my explicit goal to *not* purchase that product.
But then, I do that with any product that is overtly pushy, quirky etc; if you have to try that hard to market your product, it probably isn’t very good.
Its cringe inducing
"aren't I"?
If you say "Candy Can" five times in front of a mirror you'll end up drinking this shite, beware.
Oompa doompa doopity doo, shrimp's got another can for you. Oompa doompa doopity dee, if it is strange it will delight me.
thank you so much for this smile :)
Earworm activated 😅😎
Don't you like the sound of it...
Very clever. Made me smile. But isn't it Oompa Loompa?
@robynw6307 it is, I don't know why my brain sang it to me that way lol
The whole website for these cans sounds like it was written by AI, especially with how they repeat certain words or similar enough words without actually saying something new.
AI slop and wonka? Topical!
Sounds similar to slopaganda, a term ascribed to chinese propaganda

Wonka. Zero sugar.
_Wonka. Zero sugar_
Its sugar tax mate. If Willy Wonka was a real person these days Jeremy Oliver would be screaming about him on TV for poisoning the youth.
Psygnosis?
@@fimmywa Don't you mean Jamie Oliver? And, if Wonka was real, I feel like people would be more upset at children vanishing mysteriously in his factory and the slave labour ;)
@@fimmywaDr Phil. He is the big sugar hater, and a fake Dr.
He was yelling about the sugar in energy drinks, which do have a lot of sugar, but want to know why he didn't yell about the similar levels of sugar in Pepsi? Guess who advertises on his show and Oprah's, too?
It starts with Pep and ends with a trip to the dentist.
Yes, I partake in a fairly high quantity of recreational drugs. I meant Oliver!@@kassemir
Getting a sort of " "how do you do, fellow kids" feeling from the marketing blurb
When finding something 'reduced to clear' in large quantities, I often have conflicting thoughts between "This could be interesting" and "I wonder what's so horrible about this that there's so much left." Nice to see curiosity win out.
I enjoy trying those things out. Frankly often they are weird crisp flavours, but my palette isnt the usual brit so I like to have a go. I dont think Im yet to find anything that Im gutted has been discountinued :D
It's probably because tesco usually sells too high, i always see these in b&m and they're quite regularly stocked
broooo we're so weird and non mainstream!
>literally branded with Wonka™
That wonka experience really did a number over there
a truly weird drink company wouldn't plaster it across their website, they'd just name a flavor 'unicorn snot' and act like its totally normal.
Candy Can: "Be Weird! Be Yourself! Follow Us!"
"Don't dead open inside" is such a meme culture throwback
i appreciate you sparking the embers by correctly naming each willy wonka
There is only one. The original, played by the late, great, Gene Wilder. The others are just pale Wannabees. Fact.
@@brianartilleryOr Wonkabees, as the case may be?
It's an apple flavour drink, not an apple flavoured drink. They're legally distinct
Not in the UK
@@novawolf_gamingI'm taking about the UK.
@@BongoBaggins Hmmm, from what I understand, all companies still say "flavoured"
@@novawolf_gaming If the flavouring doesn't derive from the food you are presenting it as, it is false advertising to call it flavoured. You can say something is "apple flavour" if it does not contain any apple, but not "apple flavoured"
@@AMSinc301 that's correct. 'Apple Flavoured' legally means that the flavour must derive from apples. 'Apple Flavour' means it tastes like apples, but the flavour may be composed of things that are not apples (which might still be natural ingredients, or may be artificial - all of that has to be detailed in the ingredients panel)
in america, a "candy apple" specifically refers to an apple dipped in just a sugar coating. A toffee apple would be what we'd call a caramel apple. they're very much different. (Personally i think candy apples are vile, but a caramel apple is a delight.)
I grew up believing only children with a loose tooth should eat a candy apple. As an adult, I agree!
Toffee apples are just dipped in melted sugar (usually sugar dyed red) - the sugar coating on a UK toffee apple is not typically caramelised.
Yep! Candy Apples are dipped in a hard candy coating and caramel apples are dipped in caramel!
Im from the uk and those caramel apples look way better. Yeah theyre coated in a hard, barely flavored, usually red sugar (not toffee). This sugar usually breaks off in large shards which makes it impossible to get the apple and sugar in one bite. Usually I eat the entire coating, get sticky hands and face, then the apple tastes worse than a normal apple because you've saturated your taste with sweet already.
This terrible snack has always seemed weird to me.
@@AtomicShrimp In America, the apple dipped in sugar dyed red is specifically known as a "candy apple", which seems to be what you describe as "toffee apples". I only really am commenting because to me, "toffee apple" sounds more similar to "caramel apple" than "candy apple".
One of the most refreshing apple drinks I ever had was from a brand called Tymbark. It's a polish juice brand. They have this one that's basically apple juice with mint. When it's room temperature, it's quite unpleasant however when it's cold from having been in the fridge, it's just incredible. The mint really elevates the cold temperatures and makes it so much better.
Yay! Sweet Teats at their best. Just be careful of any Unknowns in the can.
I'm rather partial to cartchy tuns.
Sucralose: diabetes without sugar, lovely....
Gene Wilder. No other Willy Wonka is remotely acceptable!
Depp, was okay, and I haven't seen the most recent one yet, but Wilder was definitely a special kind of creepy!
@@craftiebrown 1 view of him in Young Frankenstein shows his quality. I can't imagine anyone else in the role.
depp was much pretty much just like this can, where instead of seeming weird, he just trying too hard to be quirky. The tunnel scene in the first one was certainly weird@@craftiebrown
@@axeavier I thought he was partly doing a Michael Jackson imitation. It was okay, but Gene seems to really have nailed it.
I've not seen Atreides yet, I liked his version in the trailer for Wonka, but Gene is the best hands down
A drinks company that focuses on everything else first and making a good tasting product last.
the drink of the future
This sounds like the canned version of that disastrous Wonka themed ‘fun day’ that happened up in Scotland recently 😂
All that horrific marketing w*nk makes me cringe!
That invalidated token blurb sold me. I’ll take a case! 😆
I see this kind of "one-off" product around from time to time and wonder how they came to be. I can imagine them being a final-year group project on some University's marketing degree course, where a food manufacturer partners with the uni to offer a few thousand litres of a dozen or so surplus drinks, spreads, biscuits, etc that were made in a limited run for some previous promotion.
Each student group gets one of these along with an IP to tie in with and they have to design and market a product that they come up with, along with the packaging and promotional materials like the website.
No idea if this is really where these things come from, but it feels like it makes sense to me,
4:56 You have a real knack for delivering this stuff in the funniest possible way.
I’ve drank Brother’s Toffee Apple cider for years, and it’s delightful. The flavour defiantly works as a drink.
I was just thinking that: I used to love the Brother's drink, but i'm sober now. Might grab a can of this to see if it's a good replacement.
@@princetonalec8695 There's a non-alcoholic version of the Brother's cider as well
The worst thing I've found about trying closeout products is when I actually like the stuff, and then have to remember that I will probably never be able to get more.
I have a Marshmallow Candy Can sitting in my fridge... still can't bring myself to try it yet. I think I picked it up in either B&M or Home Bargains, and I remember seeing the birthday cake and bubblegum ones as well. This was some time ago, but if you wanted some of the other weird flavours to try (to celebrate your uniqueness) it might be worth a visit if you're passing one. As always, love a weird stuff in a can video!
have you tried it yet
Seems to me that most of those flavors are just slight variations on…sugar. The one you got sounds good, though.
That can isn't made from candy at all. Wonka would be disappointed.
Caramel/toffee falls into the category of things which I would not want to drink a fizzy version of, along with tea, coffee, milk, and most vegetables.
I get what you're saying but curious, do you dislike coca cola then? It's caramel flavored.
If only all the internet was as good as this. Sir, you are a genius.
That website feels like it was done by someone on a sweetener high...
In America, candy apples and caramel apples are different things. Candy apples are coated in hard candy and caramel apples are coated in sticky but soft caramel.
When you knocked, he thought you were the candy can.
The site gives me the "how do you do fellow kids?" vibe but if I saw this in the store I'd probably try it
In the US, carmel apples are dipped in carmel, candy apples are dipped in red, hard candy.
“Wonky William”
Wonderful
The weirdest thing about this is how hard it tries to be weird.
@@kittysplode probably not in the way they intended it. This is just weird weird, not good weird.
As a German I'm going to stick with Apfelschorle - apple juice and sparkling water, mildly fruity and refreshing.
In the US we have Martinelli's sparkling apple cider. One of my best experiences in life!
Fun fact: candy apples and caramel apples are different things! Candy apples are apples covered in a hardened sugar syrup (often dyed bright red), and caramel apples are apples covered in a soft caramel, and sometimes nuts/chocolate!
Very topical considering the recent "event" in Glasgow.
I'm surprised they didn't have an Atomic Shrimp flavor 😅
I've seen these around for a while. There's a huge range of flavors available too, but as a drink tasting aficionado my experiences have told me that any drink claiming to taste like candy and having zero sugar probably tastes like utter garbage.
That I can't stand the taste of sucralose generally doesn't help but I've had many ulterior experiences with "candy floss" and such flavors that I'm never touching it in a million years.
i wonder how similar it is to that brothers brand toffee apple cider, i absolutely love that stuff even if it is a lil overly sweet, would be interested in your thoughts on that if youve had it!
I’ve always found that one’s tastes weirdly a bit like cream soda
I really like that toffee apple cider, but did not enjoy this wonka drink at all.
Bought the wonka because I love the cider, epic fail.
oh hey the place i worked at used to have a bunch of candy can (specifically cotton candy, bubble gum, rocket ice lolly and birthday cake, i didnt even know the other ones exist)
from what i remember they were about similar yeah- i dont remember much other than thinking they just tasted kind of strange (like.. very artificial sweetener)
not horrible but also i never bothered buying them again even when they got insanely discounted so i think that says enough. they didnt sell very well either
I had one of those candy can's that tased lile cotton candy. It was weird and very sweet, but not bad.
I picked up a couple of cans of energy drink from my local Morrisons today that can be considered weird stuff in a can. The drink is by a brand called Alani and one of the flavours I had was called 'cosmic stardust' flavour!
What did you do with the second can - hide it at the back of a cupboard or pour it down the drain?
the weirdest part is a wonka product being zero sugar, the character of Wonka would never sell a sugar free drink
Your videos are one of the only things that bring me real joy
Tried this today on the back of watching this video. I personally thought it was fairly pleasant, it reminded me of the Brothers' toffee apple cider albeit with less body and obviously no alcohol kick. Unusual in the sense of not being like anything else in the soft drink market
I agree with pretty much everything you said. I bought one before they were reduced to clear because the flavour and the can designed seemed appealing (and it was very slightly cheaper than other drinks I was looking at!). Not refreshing, no particular toffee flavour, too cloying, got about 3/4 through and just couldn't face drinking the rest - coming from someone who hates wasting food. I guess "toffee apples" aren't actually toffee or caramel though, just sugar?
An apple pie flavoured drink might have been better. For some reason I was expecting a cinnamon taste so that was doubly disappointing, though that one's on me!
I am glad the can is recyclable and contains no sugar. Containing no sugar makes the can much easier to recycle, less contaminants.
Got this one and a candy cane flavoured one also on clearance at tesco. Both weird and would never had guessed the flavour if I didnt know what it was supposed to be.
Wow, I've actually had this line of drinks. I've developed a bit of a tradition of purchasing fun and colourful drink cans whenever I see them, and built up quite the collection - this brand included. I have to say, they were kind of satisfying.
I know I'm late to the video, vut the "zero sugar" gives me a vibe like I would find it nauseating. Some of my family are into "zero sugar" drinks, and the artificial sweeteners are always horrid tasting, and leave an awful chemical aftertaste that I just can't stand.
Cool video though! I felt as if I were being nauseated myself by it! :P
Tis nice to see twas being used.
More please! 😊
Oh remember when one of my colleagues bought some of the "normal" flavours. She wasn't really happy with it and it seemed she did regret buying 3 cans
Cream soda and apple? Sounds like a drink we have in Bulgaria called Etar.
I've tried this myself recently and thought it tasted a bit like a fizzy Werther's!
Sucralose does weird things to my taste buds too, I won't consume anything with sucralose or aspartame.
I would love to taste this, lol. Sounds just up my alley! Sad it wasn't sold anywhere near me.
This video made my lunch break weird and wonderful.
My wife brought a case of this! It’s still in our pantry even my kids won’t drink it. This would make a great low cal drink mix.
I would love to see these products with normal cane sugar instead of sucralose.
I don't know what it is, but artificial sweeteners largely ruin everything they get put in for me. Honestly, it feels a bit more like weird counter-culture to use exclusively natural sugar...
Exactly- artificial sweeteners really do ruin everything they're in, if this was made with real sugar (and probably real apple juice) I'd be quite eager to try it!
These kinds of cans are actually available here in France in select stores!
There's this place called "Action" (kind of a dollar store type of place) that has them and there was actually a Wonka one but it was slightly different, this Wonka can was a sparkling Caramel Fudge drink (no apple mentionned).
I did try it and it wasn't bad to be honest, but maybe it's also just the fact that I like trashy sugary food haha!
I'd love to see you try more of these weird sodas like the L.O.L. Surprise drinks or the Pixelade Unicorn and Rainbow flavored ones! Stuff that is absolutely here to market to kids first and then be a drink second.
Oh, fun. Action is a Dutch shop, I think. But we have them here and there in Germany, as well. At least close to the border, where I live. I go there occasionally, although it's a bit of a trip, because their stock is noticeably different from other stores of that kind.
I might pick up some of those cans, if they have them. If you put a carbonated drink like that in a zip lock back, wrap it loosely in a towel and then put it in the freezer, it will usually explode after a couple hours and the result is a kind of snowlike flavored fluff. I do that with energy drinks in summer and it's very tasty. You need something quite sweet and strongly flavored, though. Just Fanta or such isn't as good.
Pretty sure iv tried that..wasn't very nice from recollection. Iv recently discovered an alcoholic range of drinks called buzzballz though. Which are pretty much just high alcohol cocktails like espresso martinis or chilli mango. The interesting part about them is the shape of the can which is almost baseball shaped.
I also get a strange sensation on my tongue after consuming things that are aggressively sweet. It feels like it has been burned. I haven't been paying attention to what exactly triggers the sensation, but I'll have to start taking notes.
Bought a can for the grandkids, it was indescribably foul.
after you drink this you get your own wifi network, that connects to the internet free of charge.
Watching Wonka tonight 🎉🎉 w/o any fun drinks so appreciate this video ❤
I picked one of these up from Tesco a little while back because of the price too. I thought that it tasted distinctively similar to the Brother’s Toffee Apple cider, I love that so naturally I loved this!
It would be interesting to see what you thought of the cider vs this as a comparison
I was trying to remember why i wouldn’t think this is bad. And then i remembered the toffee apple cider which is delicious
That is the most normal can I have ever seen.
I was recently gifted a snack box that had one of those Candy Cans in it. It's "marsh mallow" flavour and doesn't have any Wonka branding.
At least you figured out why it was on special, or more specifically, why they canned it (pun intended).
I don't really understand these canned drinks that are just chemical concoctions, they have nothing in them that makes me want to try them !
I would love an all natural fruit drink with a little bit of fizz but it would probably cost too much and still have to have artificial sweeteners to appeal to most people's tastes !
I thought toffee apples were just a different name for caramel apples (like crisps vs chips). But once you suggested it could be tough on your teeth I figured they must be different. I guess its obvious in hindsight that caramel apples are covered in caramel, toffee apples are covered in toffee, and candy apples are covered in candy. 😅
By the way, a canned drink like that tastes way better when you drink it straight out of the can
I owe many a filling to a traditional toffee apple or ten.
Interestingly, or not, last month I saw candy apple for the first time in Thailand, at a temple fair.
They had absolute piles of these at Costco a month or two ago. I'll stick to my fizzy water though!
Toffee apples are also called this in Australia.
0:31 Does the "WB Shield" appear anywhere else on the can, or it is just there to necessitate its own copyright and trademark notices?
Ice and white rum should work quite well. Wonka gets wobbly.
My thoughts exactly. Needs a couple ice cubes and a healthy dose of vodka 😅.
Zero sugar, plenty of chemicals.
I tried it as they were reduced to 14p. This and the candy cane one, which wasn’t quite as good. The fake sugar is bad.
I found this at an Action store a few days ago. Absolutely hated the taste, but it made for a surprisingly good substitute in a Fanta cake
Just checked and it seems that I actually tried the other "Wonka" flavor, Caramel Fudge
But I can't imagine that this one tastes any better
B&M used to have these. I'd tried Birthday Cake, which dusted tasted Like a can of sugar to me (altho it contains none)
I tried 2 or 3 of these, cant drink them because of how strong the artificial sweeteners are, would be all right drink if it was made with sugar imo. I don't now if you have Action shop in the UK but they do sell all flavours there.
I love apple sodas, esp. without sugar. Something bothers me about them, I think you're right about the lack of acidity. The fake sweeteners can make it too sweet and yes, they will taste bitter. I would have bought the whole tray and regret it after my first sip. 🤣
Brothers A/F Toffee Apple Cider is, really excellent!
Official drink of the Wonka experience, I presume.
Is there an Unknown mystery flavor?
A variety of energy drink that helps the sad oompah loompah get through they day?
Siunds like it will taste of cream soda
Congratulations on the finger freedom. I hope it is healing well.
It's progressing OK. Insufficiently bendy but the hand therapy folks say this is normal and recovery can take quite a few months.
@@AtomicShrimp Could this insufficient bendyness be quantified by use of the wobble-dog apparatus?
🤣
Definitely Gene Wilder. The original film was a favorite of mine when I was a youngster. 👍🏼
Proof that good marketing works.
Anything containing certain sweetners I tend to avoid these days. Sugar might contain zero goodness but so far it has not been reported to give you cancer - I think 🤔
This is a brand of drinks whose idea is that you drink the candy instead of eating it. Kind of cynical if you ask me (a part of enjoying candy is the texture, not just flavor) but some of these are pretty okay.
If it continued it would say “doompa” - the lyrics to the song in the movie. “Oompa, Loompa, doompa-dee-do”
OK, but it says Oompa Doom[something] which does not fit
@@AtomicShrimpIt's just being weird.
