For People With Disabilities, Getting Married Can Mean Losing Access to Critical Benefits

- People with disabilities, like Diana, often face marriage penalties that cut benefits and limit savings, forcing them to give up necessary benefits if they get married. No one should have to decide between being married and getting the supports they need to live in the community.
Thank you for sharing, I really hope for equality for people with disabilities to have access to the same help regardless of relationship status
My significant other and I wanted to get legally married, but if we did we would lose benefits, because I had too much money saved up for retirement.
Then, we we found out that we couldn't have a domestic partnership for the same reason.
Then my partner wanted to change her last name to match mine, but we would've got penalized if she did. We didn't want to be married in the eyes of the government.
So, we had a small ceremony, with a few friends. We exchanged simple vows, exchanged rings, then we kissed to seal the deal.
We lost NOTHING, because we didn't get a license.
You need a license like you need a hole in your head.
Get married spiritually, not legally.
Awesome
🙏 I hope you find a way around that situation. 😒 Governments from all over the world, never cared about people like us with any and all of the kinds of disability. 😐 My Uncle told me that people with special needs, are more clever than the norm and I agree with him. 😐 We are just as capable of doing other things as well but sometimes, we need extra help too get there.
Thank you for sticking up for what you believe in
A commitment ceremony bond may not be recognized as a marriage in the eyes of any kind of government, but in the eyes of my Goddess and my God, it is considered considered a true marriage.
My Goddess and my God doesn't need government registration in order to recognize a marriage.
I hope you can figure it out . Good luck !!
Hello there I'm on SSDI and I plan on getting married to my fiance and she has disabilities herself like diabetes and other health issues can I put her on my case as a dependent as well
And usually married couples can sustain themselves without assistance from the government, seriously if you can't support yourself or work a job then mabey you shouldn't get married. I'm all about happiness and all that bullsh*t but you shouldn't be getting special legislation if your not actively contributing to society.
