I saw recently that CoolToys and RGT85 review some KinHanks on UA-cam and decided to give these virus-carrying Chinese "no-care-about-IP" retro gaming consoles from Amazon. I got the device to work on my Lenovo desktop (i7+32GB_ram) and Lenovo laptop (i5+16GB_ram). However, I couldn't get my 2019 i9 32GB RAM 16" MacBook PRO or the 2021 m1 16GB RAM 13: MacBook PRO to fire up the KinHank. I used the restart for the Intel MacBook and tried holding Options, or CMD+R and CMD+P+R. For the m1 MacBook, I used the hold the power button to go into Options. Does anyone out there know how to boot the KinHank Retro Gaming 2TB External Hard drive from Amazon? This is helpful.
I need one of these loaded with Future Pinball , Pinball X , Pinball Arcade , and all the others for a virtual pinball machine .. would be an instant buy
Honestly, a drive with pinball will probably be more headache than its worth. Pinball is nothing like arcade/console emulation. And a lot of tables will probably be outdated.
@john plumridge Thanks for the info , I will look into that. I enjoy virtual pinball to help me learn the rules and code set on actual tables.. I travel allot for qork so it gives me an opportunity to prepare for pinball tournaments on games that I do not have access to, code knowledge in the tourneys rely helps when you are competing becausee you can bet money that some of the people you are plating against know the code to that particular game.. but thanks again for info
@CoolToy nice review, I bought an earlier version of this drive and while it has it's problems it is nice to not have to download and set all this up yourself.
Hopefully high end fully installed games in the future will come in cartridges using SSD that can plug into a PC that has a external SATA cartridge port.
@@bubsy101bchips8 Not the SSD but downloading and installing a game on the hard drive takes a long time. Better to have games already pre-installed on the SSD in order to plug the cartridge in and play.

You actually don't need to spend a ton of money to get one of these hard drives up and running and pretty much playing anything on this drive. I wanted to try one of these hard drives and didn't want to tie up my main system so I bought a used HP Elitedesk 800 G3 with 16 GB of memory pretty cheap on Ebay, added a SWFT105 Radeon graphics card (new) for about 140 bucks. All I did was take some alcohol, clean the CPU, put some new thermal paste, add the low profile GPU. It doesn't look like a sexy gaming PC or anything but it runs like a dream.
Thanks for the review; a question for you if you know the answer. How do you quicksave on this thing? Is there a key command that will do it like esc lets you exit? Depending on how I map the controller one of the random buttons prompts the quicksave but it is tied to an action button and will thus save over and over while I am playing. Most of the time though there is no button that will quicksave if I have the controller mapped as advised. Setting the Hotkey also does not seem to be reliable.
@@erikkristoffersen7170 Thanks for the reply; I had figured it out that it all depends on how you set the home button and then in game holding that button while pressing another one for various prompts. So setting the home button to one that isn't going to be used for in-game play or the select button as a general default is best.

What games will it play? Jk. I like that they went with a cassette tape look for the design. Seems like a fantastic option for someone that has a decent PC.
The only issue I have with your video. You state it just plug and play, which I think is a bit misleading. I own the higher model (2G version) and it requires you to do this and that, then you can play it. Other then that decent video showing what HD has to offer on it.
My only complaint about Batocera Linux is that it does not contain the Microsoft secure boot key which means that sucure boot must be disabled for it to boot up. There are other Linux distros that do have secure boot in their boot loaders. It's not really an issue except on some systems, secure boot must be turned on again in order to get back into Windows. Shame on Microsoft for trying to break Linux for all PCs

I want something like this to mod with my Arcade1up cabinet, but the issue is that there are some hardrives or rasp pi or etc with different capacities. Some only include early arcade games (pre-3D) while others go all the way to late dreamcast era. I wish there was a seller who could customize the hardrive based off our own personal list.
@@ultraspinalki11 , i just bought an Arcade 1up cab and was thinking about getting one of these cuz i don't like fiddling with retroarch, but sadly i dont think the 1up can handle most games, so i'd have to get a mini pc with a decent graphix card..at that point, im seriously considering building my own arcade cab with crap parts from goodwill and plywood from homedepot..this hd would definitely be a time saver for interface/downloads (mostly) but would still take alot of work in other areas

tried to make one myslef, but Batocera, is a tricky Operating system to make run, so i have like a bunch of emulating program all on a 4TB, with plan on moving to a 8TB Drive i bought used for $50, hopefully will last me a lifetime of low end gaming.

I am as naive as they come. I’m venturing to getting a steam deck and it is officially my first time into PC gaming and the like. Been a console Gamer. That being said: would this be ideal to getting and can these roms be extracted and run through Steam?
You could technically add them to Steam via the file structure but there isn’t really any reason to. You’d be creating way May work for yourself as you would be essentially bypassing the Batocera user interface and forcing yourself into manually reorganizing all of the game files etc. Steam is more of a game store first, with a lite user interface option built in. Launch box, is more of what you’d want to look into if you were just wanting to use the files off this device to set up your own customized game build.
You could probably boot this directly on a steam deck. It would run Batocera Linux instead of steam OS. Then just unplug it when you want to switch back to Steam OS

In order to run the emulators and have access to the roms oh this HD, it must be booted in the Batacera (Linux) environment. Something that is not currently possible on the XBOX series X or series S. You must plug it into a standard PC/laptop. Also that PC must support legacy Bios and the ability to turn off secure boot.
a LaunchBox build, but launchbox has to be ran over the top of an operating system. more or less Windows 10 at minimum. this drive can be ran by itself right into batocera by using it as the boot drive when you start a computer but launchbox is a program itself from windows.
@@evenbest4952 if you want to switch and use windows on the fly but you technically dont even need a drive with windows on it if you have a batocera drive. Batocera runs on linux your technically booting a modified version of linux when you launch batocera. to answer your question more clearly if you launch batocera from inside windows you will be able to switch back to windows immediately, if you launch batocera before windows from a usb drive or usb hard drive or whatever then no you cant switch back right into windows, but you have to remember when launched as a VM in windows its still going to use linux based emulators, as opposed to launchbox which will use windows based emulators which are simply better. they just run games better when it comes to gamecube wii. wii u / switch and stuff

It's relatively easy to make one if you have a small external harddrive or even a usb drive. There are many guides on yt.

Not only do you get a boat load of roms and emulators, this thig is all set up with screen shots and animations (some) in the loading menus

This one had more advanced emulators preloaded vs the previous one so it has a slight edge in that aspect. Assuming someone values that sort of thing

Nothing happens to windows but don't trust these chinese images. A lot of them have backdoors. Yes you can clone the drive to another drive.

Could you dock the Steam Deck, plug this HDD into the dock as well and use the SD as a normal PC to boot this up and run it as intended on Batocera?

However, I couldn't get my 2019 i9 32GB RAM 16" MacBook PRO or the 2021 m1 16GB RAM 13: MacBook PRO to fire up the KinHank. I used the restart for the Intel MacBook and tried holding Options, or CMD+R and CMD+P+R. For the m1 MacBook, I used the hold the power button to go into Options.

@@murraywright7959 I assume so, just plug it into the Xbox and tell Retroarch where the ROMs are (D: drive if you’re in Retail Mode)
In order to run the emulators and have access to the roms oh this HD, it must be booted in the Batacera (Linux) environment. Something that is not currently possible on the XBOX series X or series S. You must plug it into a standard PC/laptop. Also that PC must support legacy Bios and the ability to turn off secure boot.

If I wanted a true plug and play with everything configured, What would you recommend ?
a LaunchBox build, but launchbox has to be ran over the top of an operating system. more or less Windows 10 at minimum. this drive can be ran by itself right into batocera by using it as the boot drive when you start a computer but launchbox is a program itself from windows.

@@evenbest4952 if you want to switch and use windows on the fly but you technically dont even need a drive with windows on it if you have a batocera drive. Batocera runs on linux your technically booting a modified version of linux when you launch batocera. to answer your question more clearly if you launch batocera from inside windows you will be able to switch back to windows immediately, if you launch batocera before windows from a usb drive or usb hard drive or whatever then no you cant switch back right into windows, but you have to remember when launched as a VM in windows its still going to use linux based emulators, as opposed to launchbox which will use windows based emulators which are simply better. they just run games better when it comes to gamecube wii. wii u / switch and stuff

i just picked up an alienware mini pc it looks super cool and can run just about anything i saw a few online for about 300 dollars and in my opinion way better than beelink and worth every penny,hope this helps!!

111,000 games is too misleading because it is nothing like that. I am better off sticking to a MAME Emulating Arcade console instead with all the MAME Arcade games.
