They could’ve done something with the villain, like giving them a backstory similar to Megamind’s. I know the trope where a character’s parents end up not actually being dead in the sequel is a bit overused, but maybe they could’ve used that too.
Some years back I had a dream about a Megamind sequel. Megamind got bored as a hero when he didn't have an ongoing antagonist to fight with, so Roxanne adopted a villain identity to challenge him. He felt betrayed when he found out it was her (ironic). Meanwhile Roxanne lamented that it always rained on her birthday, and Megamind being extra developed a weather machine (which went wrong and put the entire city in danger). Woke up before either storyline could properly resolve. But that was still better than the actual sequel, and I literally made it up in my sleep.

DreamWorks would respond with some shit like - "I'm sorry to hear that Soda. Here, have this shitty Netflix show and a Funko pop to make you feel better"
There were so many ways they could have played off some of the plot holes/things that make ZERO sense. For example, the Doom Syndicate. Why not explain it as a teenage phase/club he made when he was finally out on his own? Realistically, he would be at a vulnerable point in his life and desperate for any approval he could get. Maybe he found a group during that time that was also villainous. Hell, I'm not a writer, and i dont know how to make a script, but that makes so much more sense than "villain school."
The funny thing is, Dreamworks must have really have not liked being the worlds punching bag because almost immediately they released the trailer for a (decent) looking movie.

I was so relieved when I heard Dreamworks considers TV shows non-canon for all their shows, like how in the Penguins of Madagascar show King Julien and the other 2 lemurs are in the zoo while in the movies they never were there. The Megamind "sequel" it's just an introduction for the show so yeah, non-canon.
Megamind was one of the movies I missed growing up. I watched it as an adult very recently with my wife, hands down one of my favourite movies. BTW I watched your channel since the animations.
Can’t say I agree about looking forward to better Megind movies. Megamind was built from the ground up with the express purpose of being a superhero PARODY that loops around into being an engaging story in its own right. He was NEVER meant to play all the tropes completely straight, that’s just not in his dna. It makes him the very thing he was designed to riff off of. Unless they can somehow come up with an entirely new fun way for him to subvert the genre, I’m perfectly satisfied with the standalone movie we’ve got
Oh I agree too, I don’t think megamind NEEDS another movie, I just hope if we do get one it’s good but I’d be perfectly happy having nothing except the first movie
I’m all about having a doom syndicate, they already had one from the spin-off games and in early drafts of the first movie. But my god these aren’t even fun trope parodies like the first movie they’re just generic uninspired tropey villains. I bet that 50 randomly selected megamind fans could write a better sequel than whoever was in charge of this because if the original writers really wrote this I need to know what happened for them to produce such garbage.
I have severe ptsd with s*xual stuff, so I'm stuck watching stuff like this. I don't see it as weird being old and still watching kids movies because that's the majority of what I have to watch. There's a lot that I want to enjoy that I just can't.
Thx now I'm definitely not watching it It's sad to think that DreamWorks who made trollhunters and the rest of Arcadia (ignore the final 10 minutes of the movie) made this, they could literally make good show with pretty visuals and interesting plot

Peacock is NBC, which has the office and Brooklyn 99. NBC realized Netflix makes a lot of money with the office so they made their own streaming service. The streaming service honestly sucks in my opinion which has me bummed when peacock was the one releasing the megamind movie.

I watched Cats Don't Dance 5 times in a row, back to back, the first time I saw it I enjoyed it so much. Definitely understand the hyperfixation rewatch compulsion. I've always had hyperfixation phases with things I love.
Keiko is literally the only decent thing about this film now that you mention it. Yeah she's a lil annoying and looks like a generic netflix character, but the ideas of her looking up to Megamind as an influence and even having a past that parallels his aren't actually too bad on paper. It's just that everything else around this sequel and even the series kinda squandered that potential writing-wise. Had Keiko been refined and they ditched the internet-obsessed attitude (or better yet, introduce her in an actual Megamind 2 with a better-written story), she could've been a pretty solid character that fits in nicely with the main cast.
My headcannon now for the Megamind universe is that "Megamind vs The Doom Syndicate" and the tv show never existed/never happened.😁 Either that or they were things made IN the universe that Megamind probably watched and was super confused about.
Why is there always a school that was never a thing in the original? And/or a group of old "friends" I dont think i have ever seen it work, but the people who make bad sequels love it

For me: Toy Story 4 and also Wreck it Ralph 2--oh I'm sorry, Ralph BREAKS the Internet.
@@sodapetsI feel like the sequel was executives testing the waters to see how much blatant product placement and advertising they could get away with in a movie
@@JohnWall-lj1mx wasn't that the first movie as well?
I lost all hope when I saw the trailer and the worste part is it came out on my friends birthday and her parents forced her to go see it 💀
Her parents FORCED her on HER BIRTHDAY? WOW
@@SPIDERMANBINWEEVILSCJJ not literally forced but they knew she liked mega mind and they didn't know how crap the sequel was and she said watching the movie felt like torture but she appreciated the gesture
@@iamveryweird9904 ohhh my bad nice gesture but bad film
The button of doom is the REAL sequel
And the games!
The only true sequel of Megamind is The Button of Doom.
i've never watched it, is it 'good' good or 'better than this pile of crap' good
the whole movie looks like a mobile game lmao

I like how Soda can make a video about anything and I'm captivated
honestly this was a missed opportunity to explore a bit more how Megamind would fit into his new role as an antihero.
OHHH IM SO HAPPY I FOUND YOUR CHANNEL AGAIN!!!! i remember watching ur cadence x shining armor ‘love hurts’ mini movie over and over again as a kid 😭 great review
OH MY GOD I USED TO WATCH THEIR MLP VIDEOS ALL THE TIME AND I DIDNT EVEN RECOGNIZE THEM UNTIL YOU SAID SOMETHING I thought they were just another reviewer😭😭
12:28 yes! Yes! Thank you! You just spoke all thoughts when I heard villain school for the first time.
It feels like they made a sequel without watching the original movie…
This is truly the darkest timeline.
The Button of Doom is the true sequel.
I will treat this atrocity like I treated the Star Wars sequels. It's a spin-off, not canon. 😁
I know this isn't saying much but I usually thought Rogue One and The Bad Batch were way more enjoyable to watch than those Star Wars sequels lol.
@@monster-mecha_enthusiast_2002Absolutely!
The Last Jedi is great tho
@@channel45853 Didn't say I hate them. Just don't accept them as canon.
DreamWorks would respond with some shit like - "I'm sorry to hear that Soda. Here, have this shitty Netflix show and a Funko pop to make you feel better"
I'm distracted understanding that I'm not "weird" being 22 and collecting as much cute toys as you do! :3💕
Interesting fact:
Robert Downey Jr. was supposed to play Megamind but was replaced by Will Ferrell
dude you watching this every day was me with the spongebob movie. i went on vacation to this holiday resort as a kid and my mom told me not to bother bringing movies because there wouldn't be a dvd player but i brought one just in case... and there was a dvd player. for the next week i watched the spongebob movie hundreds of times
I watched it and lost brain cells
I'm only 15 seconds in and havent watched the 2nd movie and I'm already disappointed in it😭
so they retcon 90% of the original movie that is sad
I was so relieved when I heard Dreamworks considers TV shows non-canon for all their shows, like how in the Penguins of Madagascar show King Julien and the other 2 lemurs are in the zoo while in the movies they never were there. The Megamind "sequel" it's just an introduction for the show so yeah, non-canon.
Megamind was one of the movies I missed growing up. I watched it as an adult very recently with my wife, hands down one of my favourite movies.
BTW I watched your channel since the animations.
12:28 I CANNOT, VILLAIN SCHOOL 😭😭😭😭
You know what the animation looks like?
COCOMELON. NO NEED TO EXPLAIN THAT.
At least Cocomelon looks polished!
@@ShendonV true
6:22 you know it's bad when someone who makes this kind of disclaimer says it ruined her life 💀
I'm sorry you had to go through this. It'll be okay.
I love you thank you for voicing exactly how I feel about this as a fellow megamind fan
I have severe ptsd with s*xual stuff, so I'm stuck watching stuff like this. I don't see it as weird being old and still watching kids movies because that's the majority of what I have to watch. There's a lot that I want to enjoy that I just can't.
love how all of the new characters are so boring, that nobody knows their names
Thx now I'm definitely not watching it
It's sad to think that DreamWorks who made trollhunters and the rest of Arcadia (ignore the final 10 minutes of the movie) made this, they could literally make good show with pretty visuals and interesting plot
Look up the wild robot trailer it looks so much better
can we PLEASE stop trying to make shitty remakes / sequals of amazing stand alone films. Megamind is an amazing peice of media and I refuse to let it be tainted by this.
Thoughts on "The Wild Robot" trailer? It's dreamworks latest movie.
Looks incredible, really took me by surprise
I remember seeing the trailer for it at the Movie Theaters to see Inside Out 2
I didn’t know you were a Megamind fan until now!
The fact that they changed Minion's name to Chum is just sad.
this movie is tragic and it’s so disappointing the whole thing i watched a all hail king julien tv show on netflix and ngl that show was actually pretty good and funny so this is just wasted opportunity (also i can’t the shot with his feet and it cuts back to u😭)
Unrelated, but I LOVED UR MLP VIDEOS YEARS AGO
They could've so easily just said he met the others in the Doom Syndicate in jail or something.
Or someone else said the Doom Syndicate could've been people who admired Megamind and supported him as a villain but without them knowing him personally
So many different ways they could've gone and they did this
Peacock is NBC, which has the office and Brooklyn 99. NBC realized Netflix makes a lot of money with the office so they made their own streaming service. The streaming service honestly sucks in my opinion which has me bummed when peacock was the one releasing the megamind movie.
They made a second Megamind? They really are out of ideas.
It’s even sadder that at the end of season 1 they set up a season 2 cliffhanger
I love how you turned to camera and like "megamind is fuck#d." Haha!!
ive only heared of peacock twice:
the horrible megamind 2 movie and the horrible dragons: nine realms series.
now the Peacock streaming service has a negative association for me.
Alternative title: I watch the new Megamind and it gave me cancer
I feel like we would enjoy the movie if they went through the shrek route, gave us three little baby megaminds!!!!
STOP THAT SOUNDS SO CUTE
@sodapets lol maybe we should make are own megamind movie lol btw I'm totally subscribing!
This is how it happened, this is how megamind died.
And/or a group of old "friends"
I dont think i have ever seen it work, but the people who make bad sequels love it
Some movies shouldn't have a sequel. They just weren't made for it.
heartbreaking story, you’re a lovely person
This video title is literally where I learned they made a sequel. Can’t wait to hear in what ways it sucks ass
I wanted so bad to believe it was going to be good but it was just so bad
9:00 Megamind could have named him old sport and got shot in a pool at the end instead
"There is no easter bunny, there is no tooth fairy and there is no Megamind 2"
I haven't watched Megamind daily BUT I have watched it a concerning amount of times 💪 (half of those times being w friends or family)
Watching the Doom Syndicate physically hurt me. I kicked my foot out of frustration on the sauna lamp thing and i still have a weird reverse bump because of the skin that got torn off 😭
I like the idea that metroman and megamind are like the only super hero/villian that exist in the universe. The doom syndicate just ruins everything for me
soda pets looks sofa king done
This is Barbie Rapunzel tier animation
You should review the megamind game
I can’t express how much this movie fills me with rage omg
They missed an opportunity with villains school. Could've been a reference to his prison daycare.
I’m cryingggg why did they do this to our boy??😭
I will repeat this to the day I die, the only real megamind sequel is the button of doom short
I totally related to you when you said you watched Megamind everyday, I did it with Shrek 1&2 but sort of as a background noise. I now know almost all of the dailouge by heart.
I loved Megamind when it first came out (was the same age as you) and my love has only grown. I was really happy to see memes reviving the original movie but the new movie is something that never should've happened. After watching Wish I thought Dreamworks would only produce good movies and here we are 😭
