- This an exploration of the remaining buildings and underground shelters at the former RAF Lympne in Kent. (The underground footage begins from 11:33) It opened up during WW1 and continued in use as a civil airfield and during WW2 went to the RAF and Royal Navy for wartime operations. It was bombed quite heavily during the war and many people lost their lives. After the war it stayed in use as Lympne Airport until the mid 1980s when it closed down. Some of the site has been turned into an Industrial Estate, while the rest lies unused until the Council sell it on to housing developers. Explore it while you can.
The tall, buttressed structure looks like firing butts where aircraft guns would be tested.
Yes it's pretty impressive when you see it close up but the curved top makes it a hanger end, butts are just flat topped walls. I'd like to go back again and get some better pictures and some measurements before it's gone forever.
Love the old RAF bases good video. Got an RAF battle HQ on my channel if your interested
how did you come across this?
Very nice explore Dean. You and I have the same contempt for vandals and grafitti twats.
