      I usually don't respond to these since ego is not a part of my reason to do what I do, but thank you. At my age, it's nice to see appreciation in this hypercritcal society. And the talent was from my Dad who taught me how to use every tool imaginable in the 60s and 70s. The blood, open tissue and stress of the operating room is simply repetition and adaptation. But again, thank you, you made my morning.

    My 13 th right foot surgery will be this September 2024. This video helped me to understand what is going to happen to me. My story is quite the success story and I hope that will continue with my 13 th right foot surgery. Thank you so very much.

    Recovery is about 2 weeks with stitches and not getting your foot wet. As for driving, it depends upon which foot (left better than right of course) your confidence, and type of dressing/post operative shoe. Please feel free to contact my staff if you are interested in having an evaluation.

    I appreciate this upload. Had a hammer toe surgery two years ago and I was always curious as to how it was done. This was my second sugery on the toe as the first one didn't work (they had just cut a ligament I think). The scar isn't so bad though visible and I can't move my toe up and down so I still find that a bit strange but at least the second surgery did the trick and the toe didn't revert like it did the first time after the first surgery. Got it done over Christmas break because of the 6 wk. recovery time.

    Hi! They did leave scars on the tops of my toes but they are very faint. I can move my toes back and forth but they will not bend. I had my pins in for 6 weeks and then they pulled them out.I have read a lot of horror stories about having this surgery but I can honestly say it was not as bad as I thought it would be.I had to be in bed for 6 weeks which was no fun.The only time I was in tremendous pain was the few days after my surgery.My bones were sore for a few months. Hope some of this helps!

    What's the difference between this treatment vs the one I see where they cut the tendon or whatever? It's in office and local anesthetic is used and they usually end up with a single stitch. The procedure usually takes minutes and they basically cut something under the toe that releases the hammer toe and it magically straightens out. Is surgery really necessary? Is there a difference between these 2 procedures?

    Reponding to an earlier deleted comment from a post:
    there really is no secret lotion, cream or other substance that can remove the darkened or lightened coloring from a traditional 'corn'. It is a pressure lesion and the bone prominence below is what is causing it. So besides larger / no shoes, correcting the problem surgically is really the best way to take care of it permanently.

  • @DrRobertJMooreIII
    @DrRobertJMooreIII  11 років тому

    No. It stays in Lexi. Putting pins in and taking pins out is an older technique. Not a bad thing but once they are out, the toe can move - hence the smart toe or 'hammer lock' I am using to ensure that my patients toes stay straight. Let us know if we can help.

    I've had hammer toe all my life and It's never given me any problems. I forget that I have hammer toe until I take my shoe's off. I played baseball as a teen for 2 yrs I can walk, run, and still play sport for long periods of time and I'm fine. The thing is I've decided to join the Navy and I know that MEPS looks for these things. I really want to serve my country and I fear that this slight deformity may hinder me from enlisting. What do you suggest I do?

    Not only did we straighten this patient's toe and remove the 'bump' that was rubbing on his shoe, but it was slightly shortened so it would not hit the end of his shoe either.
    Furthermore we placed a hidden pin in his toe so his big toe won't push it over and heal at an angle.

    How much post surgery discomfort will be experienced??

    • @DrRobertJMooreIII
      @DrRobertJMooreIII  2 місяці тому

      Very little. In fact if a local block is performed after surgery with a little dexamethasone mixed in there’s little to no inflammation. I’ve had patients take a few Tylenol or Advil after surgery and get by. Staying off the foot for the first 72 hours takes care of most of the Swelling and pain. Otherwise a light dose of hydrocodone is necessary sometimes but on a scale of 1 to 10, digital surgery never exceeds a five or six.

    This is a hammer toe surgery video performed by Dr Robert J Moore III (www.myfootfix.com). He is a foot specialist / podiatrist in Houston Texas who specializes is this type of cosmetic surgery for both straightening and shortening of toes as well as permanently removing the corn or callus associated with this problem. In the video he uses a "smart toe implant" that keeps the toe straight and negates the use of k-wire pins that have to be removed later in the post operative period. No XD, its for people who wear the wrong shoes or something and their toes curl up, like a "hammer", kinda hard to explain, lol
