I actually don't really like the Haaka pump. For me, it hurt to use. I found something similar at Walmart that provides a gentler suction called the TROVE silicone breast pump. It doesn't hurt as much and it'll catch up to 3oz of breast milk. The best part is it doesn't hang off your book as bad and doesn't get in the way like the Haaka can. I also think it might be a little cheaper too.
I tried using this a few times when I’d be engorged but didn’t wanna pull out my electric pump and could never get more than 1-2 ounces.. it has its uses but it didn’t work for me as a stand alone pump
Even though I failed at breastfeeding my first..I kept it for the next. This tool really is user friendly for every new mom and a must for on the go experienced moms. **oh my gosh I had no idea it was useful for clogged ducts. Never had one but boy am I going to recommend this to anyone who mentions having one!
Almost never used mine for my first but I found myself using it a lot for my second! I have a fast let down so for my first morning feed it was perfect to take half an ounce off the top of my one side while he nursed the other. Helped his gas and helped get him into the fattier hind milk since he didn’t want to finish the second side always.
So happy you mentioned this, I also kept it for my next baby because I felt it was the most comfortable and effective pump I used. (Milk wasn’t quite nutritional enough to continue the first time, hoping for a better outcome the next)
They were actually the best pumps ever. Got more than twice as much from these as I did the $200 Medela my insurance paid for. I had supply issues and these probably saved my supply and sanity. I would fall asleep at the electric pump and have nightmares about the noise. 😂
@@rcg224 , I used both the hospital grade one and the home one at different points. The suction was plenty, top of the line and all that. It just never helped me. Nothing against Medela or any other electric pump. Just my personal taste and, from what I understand, that of many others.
Didn’t have it with my first, got one for my second and I have no idea how I ever survived without it!!! Here’s a fun tip I accidentally discovered one desperate night - if you have the small size trio of silicone can/jar covers from ikea, the hot pink one fits haakas perfectly…. and I mean perfect; totally flush suction seal without having to worry about bending it or spilling. One of the most glorious innovative moments of my life 😅💫
I’m so relieved after purchasing one. I was having a hard time all night due to nipple thrush, I couldn’t pump without feeling super terrible. 10/10 recommend!
hi! i've seen many of your videos on how to increase milk with suction. i was wondering if you knew of any foods that could also help? or would i just need a healthy diet?
Brewers yeast, whole grains, dark leafy veggies, oatmeal/oat milk, fennel. Making sure you’ve got 300-500 extra calories a day on board and are drinking enough water is important too. But really…all of this isn’t really scientifically proven more so it’s anecdotal evidence that points this way ♥️
I'd also like to add, mental health! If you're stressed about numbers that anxiety can make breastfeeding uncomfortable and drop your supply. If you just relax, snuggle baby skin to skin (or hold something that smells like baby if you've got to work and pump), and forget the ounce counting, it makes letdown easier and can help increase supply. I'm not 100% sure why this is. I understand the relationship of oxytocin and adrenaline in labor but I'm not sure what the connection is to lactation, other than njrsing produces more oxytocin, just like labor...... but there's something to feeling safe, relaxed, and comfortable. Hope that helps!!! ❤❤❤
No wasted letdown and an easy way to build a freezer stash. I ended up donating almost 2,000oz 2nd time around without stressful extra pumps. My haaaka definitely helped a clog duct or 2 as well.
The lactation consultant at my hospital warned me to stay clear of this, saying it’s a gimmick (I had one at home ready to go but she didn’t know) she said they have a couple of ladies a week come in with mastitis and other issues from using it. I got the medela electric pump instead 😄
@@Chilsy449i had the medela pump in style. Hated that thing. The cheaper of the lansinoh electric pumps worked just fine for me. Insurance wouldn't cover the cost so they both came out of pocket. Used the lansinoh for 11 out of the 12 months i exclusively pumped. If i continue with the medela, i wouldnt have made it much further than the first month
I really like mine. I will caution though that if you are overproducing, you need to stop trying to pump or use the hakaa. Your baby will regulate your production, but if you’re stimulating more, that will produce more milk and cause engorgement. If you’re trying to build a stash, that’s cool. But if you don’t like the engorgement, definitely don’t pump or suction out more.
Will the haaka work as a full-time breast pump? Could I get two of them and use them to pump when I go back to work? First time mom here, sorry if it's a dumb question!
As an IBCLC I do not recommend it. Nothing continuously sucks on the breast, it can cause ductal damage and clogged ducts (especially around the nipple and the spout) It has caused so many over supply issues. "Stashes" are damaging and unnecessary. I have seen babies lose weight when Mom goes back to work due to high lactose milk from the haaka's. Just use with caution and direction from you IBCLC.
I really struggle to use a haaka without pain. I wonder if it's because you can't adjust the flange size? And they'll only help me get milk out if I'm pretty full; otherwise, the suction simply doesn't seem to work. My sister has the same problem. To be clear, I rarely use a pump of any kind. But I will use a pump in extreme situations, and I'll choose whether to use the haaka or electric pump depending on the situation. The simplicity of the haaka is definitely a bonus if all you want to do is have some relief when baby's not nursing, but you also would like to save the milk. This is obviously also possible through hand expression, but since I live in a shared home I prefer a more discreet system ;)
I have a manual pump, which I love. I don't even use my electric pump in favor of the manual one. Do you have a professional opinion on the manual pumps?
I had a permanent under supply and nothing I did could increase it. I breastfed constantly but it didn't help (I think we had a shallow latch and I know my son had a tongue tie). Could a Haakaa have helped me, someone who never leaked, never felt a let down, and never produced enough?
For those who don’t need to pump it’s also great for leaving on the other breast when feeding to collect the sympathetic expression. Just keeps things nice and clean
Is the Epsom salt and warm water used only for the clogged milk duct? Than toss out the milk? I'm sorry trying to understand how to properly use the product.
Yes it would be a way to get that clogged milk duct relieved not as a way to pump out milk. The milk would be unusable cause it would be in a bath of salt and water :)
I'm genuinely surprised so many people have positive things to say about this torture device. Anytime I got milk with this it would detach and spill everywhere, on top of hurting 10x more than my actual breast pump.
@@missmaddox thanks for that, nope just the fact that not everyone has the same breast shape and the product is one size fits all. Have the day you deserve.
You could try less suction by squeezing it less intensely before you apply it or by placing it straight on instead of releasing the squeeze instead of folding back the flange and applying it. Also make sure your nipp!e is right in the center so its not rubbing!
I have the haaka ladybug that catches let down throughout the day or in my sleep. Is this one better or just a good one to use in a more personal setting??
What if I have no more let down like by itself I am an under supplier and working on increasing my milk supply. Do you think I can benefit from the Hakka?
I did use this and still using it. It causes oversupply issue and also due to this there is fast letdown coming out which gets difficult for the baby to keep latching causes cough. I did try taking some milk out and then tried to latch but it gives the signal the body to make more milk. Grass is not greener at every side.
Ive always wanted to buy this but i for some reason thought you had to keep like squeezing it to pump the milk out. Definitely going to get this now that my daughter is born!
Hi, can Haakaa pump help in increasing milk supply? I am at 5th week of breastfeeding and I get supply of only 2oz of each feeding session which is not enough for my baby. I am using electric pump too but that is painful process. Do you think this can work more than just collector?
I swear by it. Never got used to pumping, but this gave us plenty to work with because I always had a strong letdown. Why waste it with cleaning all those pads! Didnt think of it for a clog but was fortunate enough not to need to consider it! If youre debating adding this to the list, don't, id prioritize it if I had another 😊❤

I absolutely love these. Used them with two newborns so far and plan to with my third on the way! I would even let it do its thing while also massaging at the breast to get more milk out. Way easier to wash and work with than an electric pump
I used to use the haaka. Now i use the elvie curve its a 4 oz milk cat h that also does suction. But it goes inside the bra so baby cant kick it off. I pumped almost 2,000 oz with it when i had my last baby.
Can you do a video on how to build up your supply after it’s been wiped out by sickness (in my case, postpartum preeclampsia). I’m not giving up but gosh did it wipe me out and I just want it back 😭😭
Wish I had seen this a week ago 😅😂 I recently got a pump but it's my first time around for everything. And I've been having production/clogging issues . And ended up looking at this one and another. The only reason I got the other one instead was because it hand a handle and I assumed that would make it easier and the one I got claimed to be gentler than others . And I hadn't seen anything stating otherwise and none of my friends have had to use pumps so I went in completely blind and trusted the packaging. The one I got is not good at pulling anything out and it's only aggravates My breast and indefinitely has been hurting me with how little it actually pulls but how aggressive the suction is it's so aggressive but does nothing to actually pull anything. I've read all the instructions and have tried every which way possible and it's just not workin😅
I suppose if you had too much suction on for too long you could likely compress your breast tissue which would mean you’re taking out less milk which will trigger you to make less! Same as any pump
Is there any tip to help avoid an engorged nipple after using it? I use it to collect let down but then, my nipple is way engorged and my baby finds it hard to latch
I have a question- the way haaka also pulls on the areola and suctions it down, is there a possibility that that maneuver itself can cause a milk pocket to form? Maybe my technique was wrong but for some reason I would not get a milk let down with the haaka even when my breasts would be super engorged and that would be painful- a few days later I ended up with a clogged duct that eventually turned into mastitis and then a breast abscess. Dunno if it was the haaka but I’m scared to go near one now 🥲
Is there a big difference (or any diff) between Haakaa, Dr Browns collector, Medelas manual breastmilk collector and the Lansinoh breastmilk collector.. they all look the same 🥲
I don’t have experience with others. This is more than a milk collector it’s a continuous suction silicone pump. So if the others are actual silicone breast pumps and not just the collectors then they would be similar! Haakaa also makes the ladybug which is more of just a collector
Yeah they’re all the same exact shaped silicone pumps, as a Canadian it’s surprisingly (and oddly) very hard to get your hands on a Haakaa (even from Amazon). I found it at two stores but at double near triple the standard American price 😅 I got the ladybug, but having trouble finding a decent priced regular Haakaa like the one you have in the video. Amazon has Medela, Lansinoh, and Dr. Browns Silicone Pump (Haakaa dupes?) I just need to find out if they’re actuallly as effective 🫠
Discovered this beauty at the end of my last breastfeeding journey 2 months away from birthing my 2nd baby and so excited to start this journey off with one it saves so much milk from let down
I tried it but baby kicked it off. Baby wasn't a fan of the football hold either. Also, I think I have vasospasms and wasn't sure this helped... Maybe next baby? Baby is six months and I still only have a stash of 20 6oz bags.. having a little freakout introducing solids I'd love to add in breast milk for purees and got a lil cup I'd like to try her on..
Hi sorry just wondering if I’d still need this alongside an electric breast pump? I’ve got the medela electric one - will I still need this and the hakaa or can I do the things you’ve mentioned with the medela/any pump?
You can pump with a pump but it won’t really function in the same way as collecting the milk. But if you aren’t interested in it for collecting letdown then you should be just fine with your electric pump!
I would love to get some advice from you I am currently 29 weeks +5 days with twins and I nearly went into labor at 28 weeks I had contractions that were 6 minutes apart and dilated to 3cm I was hospitalized for 3 days they gave me magnesium & steroids & some shots for babies lungs. I've been on complete pelvic rest and I have two children that go to school I'm utterly exhausted, now my question is I've been feeling pain in my anus region and like stretching up front. I have no relief from anything hot pads Tylenol and bath times is there anything I can do to help this discomfort?❤ thank you if you read this!
Make sure you’re keeping your provider posted on things like pulling and pressure! And cramping ok? I would say add in supportive positioning where you have pillows to support your back and knees. And if you’re not on bed rest but on pelvic rest you should still be able to add in a pregnancy support belt!
So I really want to love the Haakaa, but unfortunately my skin doesn't seem to like it. A friend gave me one and I loved that I could just walk around and no be hooked up to an electric pump, however, I could not keep it on me for more than maybe 5 minutes before I would start to break out in hives 😢
I’m very annoyed at every video you post BUT NOT IN A BAD WAY THOUGH! It’s Hard for me to process the fact that six years ago I did so much breast-feeding research on UA-cam and did as much as I possibly could to find every bit of info I could and even in Facebook groups and no one ever told me this! Thank you!
Wait a minute… just had my first baby last week and she’s really great at BFing but randomly she’ll have trouble latching and I can’t figure out why. If my breasts are a bit more engorged does that make it harder for her to latch? Didn’t think of that till you implied that in this video…
Yes, engorgement can make latching more difficult. Especially if you have a strong let down. If you don’t have a haakaa, try hand expressing a little before latching if you feel engorged!
I remember with my oldest after I saw this I wished I had gotten it with him and started gifting it to new moms who planned on breastfeeding. I got it for myself and it’s great for catching let down especially in the early days. However I don’t think it helped increase my supply and I don’t think it helped with my clogged duct as much as I hoped 😅but thankfully after a week it did resolve and at very least the soak felt better. I’ve noticed now though when I use it while I’m feeding that I don’t really get much out of it and my baby is 11 weeks now.
Honestly I been exclusively breastfeeding in so squimish and.... The breast pump scares the shit out of me how do I get over this so I can pump for my daughter til shes 2?
As someone who can’t have kids (can get pregnant, baby and I wouldn’t likely make it through alive though), this was still super interesting. Also, does anyone know of a way I could use my healthy eggs to help others? Since I can’t physically get through pregnancy, but my eggs are healthy, I want to help someone else who may have a healthy body but no eggs. How can I do that in a cost effective way?
I wish this was around when I was nursing, I had so much milk and I got clogged ducts a bunch, that really would've been a huge help. My daughter will be having a baby soon so I'll have to get her one.
I got one of these because I started lactating much earlier than I did in my first pregnancy. And it usually hurts a lot when I do but I haven't been doing much in the ways of filling it. I only get the bottom of the pump filled.
I literally never have to use an electronic pump. I feed on one side and store what I collect with this on the other side. I have 4 of them so there is always one nearby ready to go.
Aww i stopped breastfeeding after a month :( wish i would have known about this earlier and i dont think im cut out for relactation and i got my period back (im 4 months postpartum)
It's a waste. Tried it. Had lactation even try to help me. Did nothing. Throw it away. Breast feed all my kids. Tried it with baby number 5. So its not like im an amateur either
Except, for those of us with tiny nipples, those things hurt. There's a new kind out called Pump Pod that I wish existed when my kids were babies that 1. Starts off with a smaller flange hole circumference in the first place, and 2. Has inserts available that work with it so you can downsize to what you need! Man I'm jealous lol. Won't work for the boobie sitz bath (which I also did not know about lol, genius), but man, the correct size without pain? 🤤😆
As someone who has no friends still having kids and not planning to have any more myself I seriously watched this all the way through😂😂

Marked as a must have on my amazon registry!
Its amazing. Love it.
Dunno if it was the haaka but I’m scared to go near one now 🥲
I really wish I had this!
I found it at two stores but at double near triple the standard American price 😅
I got the ladybug, but having trouble finding a decent priced regular Haakaa like the one you have in the video.
Or you can buy the same thing by Lansinoh (in Europe)
These always make me want to call my mom and tell her I lover her and I appreciate her❤
I could never pump as much with the electric pump as I could with the hakaa! Loved it. Going to use again for sure
I had no idea about the uses. This is informative thank you!
So I really want to love the Haakaa, but unfortunately my skin doesn't seem to like it. A friend gave me one and I loved that I could just walk around and no be hooked up to an electric pump, however, I could not keep it on me for more than maybe 5 minutes before I would start to break out in hives 😢
The duct thing really works! Sucks that mess right out.
I feel absolute relief just IMAGINING 🤤
*I am having my 4th and getting this one, how do it stay on and not fall of during breastfeeding??*
It does every time and spills the milk everywhere. Don't let this ad fool you.
Baby will kick it off or grab it. Falls right off.
I bought one, but when my baby went into the NICU, I didn't know, but my breastfeeding days were numbered.
Cool method for relieving a clogged duct.
Thank you!
I really with I had this my first pregnancy! Glad I discovered it before each subsequent pregnancy!
Yes! This thing was absolutely amazing when my kids were breastfeeding.
I like the hakkaa ladybug..
For some reason it didn’t work out for me. Nothing pulled, please advise
I loved mine. Get it for every baby shower!!
Your milk supply is regulating probably, no more oversupply, less powerful letdown bc your body and baby are communicating :)
I had twins and this thing was great to keep myself comfortable.
Honestly I been exclusively breastfeeding in so squimish and.... The breast pump scares the shit out of me how do I get over this so I can pump for my daughter til shes 2?
I've been seeing these around, thank you for this review and info!💝
As someone who can’t have kids (can get pregnant, baby and I wouldn’t likely make it through alive though), this was still super interesting.
Also, does anyone know of a way I could use my healthy eggs to help others? Since I can’t physically get through pregnancy, but my eggs are healthy, I want to help someone else who may have a healthy body but no eggs. How can I do that in a cost effective way?
That is the number one breastfeeding tool in the world 🌎
I wish this was around when I was nursing, I had so much milk and I got clogged ducts a bunch, that really would've been a huge help. My daughter will be having a baby soon so I'll have to get her one.
IYKYK
I got one of these because I started lactating much earlier than I did in my first pregnancy. And it usually hurts a lot when I do but I haven't been doing much in the ways of filling it. I only get the bottom of the pump filled.
I would consider this more of a milk catcher vs an actual pump. For me it was painful to use.
This was amazing! I wish I had had one for all 3 babies!
these were great for engorgement
Yea even the dupes of these were awesome!
I literally never have to use an electronic pump. I feed on one side and store what I collect with this on the other side. I have 4 of them so there is always one nearby ready to go.
Walart also has a knock off of this
I wish this had existed a few years ago. Awesome!
Aww i stopped breastfeeding after a month :( wish i would have known about this earlier and i dont think im cut out for relactation and i got my period back (im 4 months postpartum)
Where was this 40 years ago?
I plan to be a single parent (and have wanted to since i was LITTLE for some reason 😂) and i love love your page
IYKYK! 😍 this saved me
I love the little ladybug ones. Less likely to get kicked lol.
