The word evil is not the intended word by the author within the context of this passage in Hebrew. for example the story in the Bible where Pharaoh turns away from God you'll read "God hardened Pharaohs heart" well in Hebrew the word is strengthened pharaohs heart not "hardened" that's a big difference in how you understand what your reading ,right? So The word evil in this context of this passage in Isaiah is actually Calamity not evil which makes perfect sense with what the Bible tell us. God causes calamity to those who disobey like for example sodom and gomorrah this city was full of sin and did not stop. God is saying he causes these things to happen to those who deserve it and sometimes its large groups of people who disobey God for extended periods of time we see this in the Bible and they will be destroyed. The word evil in the updated king James is now calamity. These words evil or calamity in Greek or Hebrew are similar but its the context of the entire passage that tells you which meaning the author meant. This is why the Bible is a complicated book 65,000 cross references and lots of different contexts to understand and knowledge of the Hebrew and Greek can help. For example you can say joseph loves marry over 1000 different ways in Greek not an exaggerating and all the variants will still mean joseph loves marry given the context was intended for it. The thorn wasn’t literal it was a sin habbit he kept doing God didn’t grace him to stop
