Hey everyone, so, Editor (James) here - this video has been a nightmare to get live. I have spent Thursday night, Friday (all day) and half of Saturday fighting copyright claims (unjust) on the video. Because of this, the video is going to have some bad cuts as youtube process the cuts based on 'times' - also the black at the start of the video was due to a youtube processing error but I've tried to remove it. It should be removed in the next few hours hopefully. Thank you for all the support.
The original Guyver manga and anime are VERY violent and BRUTAL. For anyone curious, go watch the 1989 anime. Specifically the Guyver vs Enzyme fight and you'll understand what I'm talking about.
The scene where Enzyme II takes out Sho’s control medal is horrific and sad too. But, at least the control medal works as a memory regeneration composite and restores Sho to life. But still: having the Guyver unit itself can be dangerous. That’s why the name “Guyver” means Out of Control. It’s a cool suit. There are perks to having it. I wouldn’t mind having the Guyver unit if it existed in real life🤣
What makes the sequel so superior is it has something this supposed anime adaptation lacks, fight choreography plus no Jimmy Walker as a racist gremlin
Strange story! I actually met Mark Hamill years ago and I asked him about this film. The moment I mentioned it, he looked embarrassed and just said ‘I’ve never watched it.’ i went one to explain that he was wasted in the film and it cheered him up. I THINK during this period of time, he really struggled to shake off Luke (instead of embrace it like he has) and he found himself in a situation where he wasn’t getting work. The stuff he was getting was super low budget and not great (apart from the film Slipstream - which he does like) he even did a cameo at the beginning of a horror film which any extra could have done. It wasn’t until a few more years passed and he started doing the voice acting roles that he could show case his talent.
Fun Fact in the sequel to this movie, they got David Hayter to play the main character & it’s a bit more gorer then the first movie. Also feels lot more of a live action anime, with the badass bio mechanical symbiotic suit.
The sequel is WAY better than the first. The music is better! It’s going to be hard for Double Toasted to make fun of Guyver Dark Hero because it’s just like the anime🤣🤣🤣

There’s a Guyver sequel to this movie called Guyver: Dark Hero. Heard it’s a much darker and faithful to the manga source material with better fight sequences
Thanks Double Toasted fam! I’m a huge fan of the Guyver! I love the anime and the manga. The first live action movie was hilarious and wasn’t good for me. The first cover of the Guyver had Mark Hamill’s face just to get people to see the Guyver because Mark is a huge draw. But Guyver: Dark Hero is a better sequel! Its my favorite! It’s more serious and it follows the anime more than the first movie. David Hayter, who plays Sean Barker/ the Guyver, is awesome!😊🤓👊🏾
Saw the Guyver on cable, in 1993, as a teen. The script was dumb. The acting was subpar. Luke Skywalker had a porn-stache. But, by 1993 standards, the FX and fight scenes weren’t half bad. By todays standards, the Guyver wouldn’t cut it. But, 31 years ago, it was actually a not ironically fun watch. Then a year later the sequel came out, Dark Hero, which was legitimately good-albeit on a tight budget.
Yes!!! Thank you guys. This shit was hilarious, apparently Steve Wang had a huge falling out with Brian Yuzna the producer cuz he wanted a TMNT knockoff while Wang wanted it to be as Dark and violent as the anime. Hence how we got the sequel with David Hayter (yes THAT David Hayter). Plus the B movie alum like Linnea Quigley, David Gale, Jeffrey Coombs, and even Peter Spellos as the Fat henchman 😂. Btw Willard was in Robocop 2 as the mayor.
Will you ever get a chance to review Guyver: Dark Hero. It’s one of the rare moments were the sequel is better than the first movie. It’s not perfect but still better than the first, considering it got a lower budget and was released straight to video.
I remember watching this as a kid having my mind blown. I thought this was the most awesome thing ever and then I tried to revisit this years later and woof! The creature and practical effects still hold up but everything else was a chore.
Thier are 2 animes, both hard Rs, the original that came out before the movies and a Funimation reboot, that came out quite some time later, in edition to the sequel to this movie whitch is my favorite of the 2, All great watches big time Guyver fan. Huge inspiration for the brutality in my art when it comes to gore, monsters, and beatdowns.❤
I don't think the 89-90 OVA series ever got an official MPAA rating but that series is way more brutal than the 05 anime. To be fair though 90s OVA animes were super brutal and explicit.
Remember watching this as a kid and loving this but then I saw the anime and read the manga and saying they took some liberties is an understatement lol. Guess mark Hamill is supposed to be a combination of sho's father and whoever, since in the manga they did turn his father in a zoaniod and he was forced to kill him. Will say the practical effects are cool. Update: this review made me check out the sequel guyver dark hero and I must say it's pretty good.
When i was 8, this was so badass, it was like an R version of Power Rangers, the sequel is actually pretty good with the fights from what i vaguely remember
That basic plot of the movie is the same as the Manga, but Korey is trying to protray it as though the writers conceived it. Also, the Guyver unit wasn't created by the corporation, butt was an alien relic. Just like the Ninja 3 review, he obviously didn't pay attention & rather poke fun of the material than to understand it.
i think with this movie, they wanted to make a movie out of a very popular manga/anime, but at the time Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers were huge, so they probably though "well let's try to make it as kid friendly as we can so we can get that audience to go see it, while also putting some blood in it so teenagers will go to see it" then they thought "well we need to get adults to come see it to, so let's throw mark hamill in there so we can get all the old star wars nerds to go see it too"
Power Rangers didn't come to America until 93 This movie was made in 90, released in 91. And yes, super senti had been around since the 70s. But only a small handful of ppl would have seen it. But I see why ppl say that. I used to have this bs on Vhs and I watched this religiously. There never was that stupid scroll in the beginning. It just opened with dude opening up the case showing the unit then he starts to dip out from the goons who I think where supposed to be the hyper zoinoids from the anime and Manga. (Thanks for Butcherin my favorite anime) They put some many extra CUT bs into the dvd and bluray versions it's ridiculous. If ur gonna watch this movie, watch the vhs version if u can find a vhs player 😅 Guyver 2 is much better but still trash just for the fact that there's still stupid shit in the movie. It's much better than the first, but I still had to recut both movies just so I could enjoy this crap as an adult.
Zoanoids as in Animal forms. Basically... Werewolves. Guyver is an alien construction suit, humans are a bioengineered weapon's platform, Zoanoids (Werebeasts) are humans who have been weaponized. The main conceit of Guyver as a story is that if the suit and a human are put together they become a powerful weapon, if the already weaponized human (Zoaniod) wears the suit they become an even more scary weapon. I remember this dumb movie fondly... LOL
I love how Jimmie Walker's character, Striker, got his ass kicked then tip the fuck out so The Guyver can kill all his boys and came back in the end with the other brother in the suit and said "Dynomite" before the credits. He was low-key a genius for leaving during the fight because he's still alive. 😂
@lenindominguez1986 Jimmie Walker was like 43 in this movie and he was acting like a young black stereotype that white people thought we acted. His Raiders jacket was cool tbh.
Guyver was the the first ANime I have ever seen. It easily became my favorite manga about a symbiotic hero because of how high the stakes were in every fight and how the main character's life was truly in shambles. The villains went to lengths you often don't see in a lot of anime/manga. Really wish the anime or manga received an ending.
I really liked it as a kid. I don't think Anime was that good so the movie at least gave it more justice. It was also the only "brutal" version of Power rangers fights we could ever experience.
ya, i felt like it was too graphic compared to power rangers (i loved both Guyver and Power Rangers a ton as a kid)... even though as a kid i knew the acting was cheesy then, I always thought Guyver was the badass version of a power ranger
Ah darn. I watched the review cuz Jeffrey Combs was in the movie only for him to only get a 5 sec mention at the end 😂oh well!! Its was a fun time watching you guys none the less!!
The Guyver is one of favorite anime’s. Steve Wang actually directed it and he came from doing prosthetics FX. But I forgive this review because you guys don’t know the actual backstory of the Guyver Lore.
I remember picking this one up from Erol's video. Totally misrepresented the movie because they sold it with Mark Hamil in the title, with the split screen of his face opposite the Guyver. His transformation was extremely disturbing when I first saw it. You have to follow up with a review of Guyver 2. They did a better job with the suit in that one and it's arguably better, but then again, that's not saying much.
Productivity Media and Darius Media had a multi-film deal with the Cayman Island. So both The Retirement Plan and The Baker were filmed in the same time. Check out both moviea and you'll notice sets being reused. Even Perlman wears the same clothing in both movies in some scenes. Both movies had Ron Perlman and Joel David Moore. However, where David and Ron were good guys in The Baker, they both played bad guys in The Retirement plan along side Nicholas Cage and Ernie Hudson. Another fact, Joel David Moore's role in this movie isnt mentioned on his Wiki.
Guyver has had three anime adaptations. A one off OVA followed the release of the manga, and then later a two season OVA that was much closer to the story of the manga. Both of those were in the 80s. The clips you checked out at the start of this video were from the latest adaptation, which came out in 2005. As far as I know, the manga is still ongoing to this day!

Lol oh hell yeah. I loved the artwork from this when I was a really young kid. Saw the movie much later in my teens... It was... a movie. 😂😂😂😂
Yuzna (who made Society) wanted a less violent movie? Hilarious!
Its my dream that Hayter goes to a con in my state, so I cam have a signed copy of Guyver 2
@@kpchobby9915I don’t blame ya dude, that would be heavenly!
Finally!!! Somebody else realized Blue Beetle is basically just The Guyver!!
This movie shows that even back in the early 90's, Hollywood has no idea how to translate manga into a live action film.
Man, I watched this when I was a kid, but none of the Jimmy Walker stuff registered as being that awful.
This is one of my favorite B movies of all times
Had to see this movie myself after watching the roast. It was pretty good except for the racism and tedious fight scenes. Dynamittte
Right. Outside of the racism, bad acting, bad pacing, bad plot, and bad fighting; it was pretty good
When i was 8, this was so badass, it was like an R version of Power Rangers, the sequel is actually pretty good with the fights from what i vaguely remember
9:17 Jimmie Walker is hilarious 😂😂😂
That basic plot of the movie is the same as the Manga, but Korey is trying to protray it as though the writers conceived it. Also, the Guyver unit wasn't created by the corporation, butt was an alien relic. Just like the Ninja 3 review, he obviously didn't pay attention & rather poke fun of the material than to understand it.
I don't think this movies reveals the Guyver unit comes from space.
i think with this movie, they wanted to make a movie out of a very popular manga/anime, but at the time Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles and Power Rangers were huge, so they probably though "well let's try to make it as kid friendly as we can so we can get that audience to go see it, while also putting some blood in it so teenagers will go to see it"
then they thought "well we need to get adults to come see it to, so let's throw mark hamill in there so we can get all the old star wars nerds to go see it too"
Power Rangers didn't come to America until 93
This movie was made in 90, released in 91.
(Thanks for Butcherin my favorite anime)
They put some many extra CUT bs into the dvd and bluray versions it's ridiculous.
If ur gonna watch this movie, watch the vhs version if u can find a vhs player 😅
Guyver 2 is much better but still trash just for the fact that there's still stupid shit in the movie.
It's much better than the first, but I still had to recut both movies just so I could enjoy this crap as an adult.
I would love a reboot to this movie. Loved it as a kid
@@HL-tf2otHe had to work.
Mark Hamill has even said he was only taking parts in movies at this point just to make a check, until he got his gig on Batman The Animated Series.
Really?! I never would’ve guessed!
Everyone has to start somewhere. This was before he voiced the Joker.🤡🤍
That "being your ass here" move! 😆
I love watching bad movie reviews but love it even more if it's a movie I've seen 😂
That "Shutchyo ass up!" had me dyin
You know s**t is about to get real when Korey either says "Shutchyo azz up" or "Sityo azz down"
If you think this is crazy, do a retro review of the anime. Holy shit.
Despite having a much lower budget, Guyver 2 is leaps and bounds better than the original. Cooler Tokusatsu action too.
@@DeRockMedia Yeah I only remember it because it felt like Power Rangers with gore
I think you should re-edit this down from 0:00 to 2:41 double toasted team (I've spotted the upload error)
Ah darn. I watched the review cuz Jeffrey Combs was in the movie only for him to only get a 5 sec mention at the end 😂oh well!! Its was a fun time watching you guys none the less!!
Please review Guyver 2. Good job as always
The Guyver is one of favorite anime’s. Steve Wang actually directed it and he came from doing prosthetics FX. But I forgive this review because you guys don’t know the actual backstory of the Guyver Lore.
I've suggested this before, so thank you for roasting it. ✌️
When I saw blue beetle guyver came to mind.
Yooooo lol I haven't seen this movie since I was a kid you guys brought back mad memories with this one 😎👍
Noooooooo, not a bad movie roast of early Blue Beetle! Lmao, but in all seriousness if you did Guyver I'm bracing for Fist of The North Star.
A preferable alternative to Blue Beetle. You know, seeing as it's THE EXACT SAME STORY.
I'm a big fan of Guyver he's my favorite superhero
Hopefully they review the sequel Dark Hero cause the opening to that movie shows u exactly what ur getting into
💯💯💯💯
I remember picking this one up from Erol's video. Totally misrepresented the movie because they sold it with Mark Hamil in the title, with the split screen of his face opposite the Guyver. His transformation was extremely disturbing when I first saw it. You have to follow up with a review of Guyver 2. They did a better job with the suit in that one and it's arguably better, but then again, that's not saying much.
WHEN DUDE TURNED INTO BIG LIP GOBLIN I ALMOST DIED
I used to love renting this movie from Blockbuster as a kid back in the 90s lol
🌙🌃🌌🏢📼😁
David Cronenberg directing a Power Rangers film sounds way more interesting than movie we have right hear.
I remember when they re-did the anime. I was all in. Was at Suncoast checking weekly for the drop of the next episodes.
When Billy said cut MF I lost it 🤣🤣🤣
And I’m over here thinking about Star Kid 😂
Which kid movie did you like better... 3 Ninjas, Surf Ninjas, or Sidekicks? 🤔
3 Ninjas
I gotta go with 3 ninjas 😂 the second one kinda fell off but I liked that one as well lol
@@camrendavis6650 Good choice...
@@EverydayWithBobby Yeah I agree. The first one was the best, But the other 2 I liked them too
Is wrong that I start cackling like Martin whenever I see that toast catching on fire?🤣🤣🤣🍞🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Just what i needed 🙏
Guyver has had three anime adaptations. A one off OVA followed the release of the manga, and then later a two season OVA that was much closer to the story of the manga. Both of those were in the 80s. The clips you checked out at the start of this video were from the latest adaptation, which came out in 2005.
As far as I know, the manga is still ongoing to this day!
