I love seeing the joy on Jasper's face when he runs in the snow. Glad you could find a little bit of snow for him.
Waggle sounds like a great pet monitoring system, and the added bonus of GPS monitoring takes it over the top. Jasper enjoying the snow made my heart melt. Safe travels Cass and thanks for sharing.
Great video thanks. Loved seeing Jasper run in the snow and Napoleon still under the blankets after a long day :o)
Good that you listen to yourself if you do not feel right about a location.
Living vicariously through you three until October...I’m going to wiggle into a Waggle. My little fur monster is 18, and my biggest worry is always the temperature. She and I have lived in a schoolbus for the last 6 years, and for 5 of those the outside temps can range from freezing to 117. When I did the schoolbus build, I spared no expense on the best air conditioner, which kept things wonderfully cool inside on even the hottest days...but a furdad’s mind is always worrying, so I got a little robot on treads that read the temp, I could wheel it around through a phone app, and I could hear everything and even speak to her. 😂 The Waggle, though, seems WAY better!
Agree, it's always a worry leaving them behind, no matter the precautions that we take! So glad your bus is setup well for them!
Wonderful video! Jasper was having such a great time in the snow! Thanks for sharing these valuable tips. It's so important if you travel with your animal friends to put their safety first & foremost!
And I thought my pre hike routine was lengthy. You win. More importantly I enjoy the logic you used to get to this point.
Safe travels
I rather get alerts ‼️ we also have cameras around the house to look at our babies even under the bed.
It’s SUPER awesome you do that.
So happy to see you again! I don't do Instagram. I was wondering about Napoleon? You are one busy gal! Good for you on getting your Masters!
Napoleon is still doing well! Hopefully we'll be back out together in the camper this fall!
Thank You for the snow trip. We really loved Jasper running around in the snow. My friends past dog Oreo LOVED the snow. If it was deep, she would plow through it. Jasper really brought back some good memories. I wish that they had something like that back when we did alot of camping. My wife & I were wondering if you had a "patron" type program? We really LOVE your tips & adventures !!!!
Hi Cary! So glad the video brings back good memories! I used to have a Patron page, but between work, school & UA-cam it was just too much to keep up with. I did enjoy it thou, so if free time ever opens up I may try it again.
those cheap wyze camera are great! I have 2 of them to keep an eye on my 2 labs when they are alone. And they dont pull much power to run.
Loved seeing Jasper playing in the snow!
So glad you enjoyed that Glen! Some of my favorite moments with him
Great video, Cass! I think its excellent that you have multiple layers of security for your pets....many options to monitor them both. Also, great that you make sure that several people know where you are at all times; I've heard many RVers do that also as a backup! All great ideas. Thank you for sharing specifically how your life "rolls"...on the road. :)
This is so helpful. That waggle product looks awesome ! Jasper really loves the snow !
Hi from Tennessee. Great informative. Really enjoyed seeing your puppy having fun in the snow ❄️. Thanks for sharing and have a great day.
Thank you so much for the Waggle review...we have been wanting EXACTLY this kind of device!
Great video, I am taking notes. Hopefully in the next few years I'll be doing some traveling with my 2 cats and this will figure what works best. I'm leaning towards a motorhome as the least intrusive since I won't have to move them from the truck to a trailer repeatedly.
And that would give them a ton of space to enjoy as well. Napoleon loves sun coming through the windows and a comfy place to nap.
Great information. It's always nice when you come back to camp and your camper is still there. We boondocked at Empire Ranch in Az. and that was always my concern when we got close enough for visual and could say "the trailer is still here". We to are getting a truck camper so it goes where we go.
You are such a good pet Mom! Lol! Love watching Jasper in the snow! ❤️
Lols Jasper having a good time in the snow.🥰Amazing he’s not cold in the snow. Napoleon content n snoozing aaay. Lols
Jasper has a very thick coat, so he can stay outside in the snow all day and absolutely love it. I don't know how he does it!
Another great informative well-done video! One thing that I wondered about you being away from the Basecamp locked up, how would a safety buddy get in if you couldn’t make it back?? Stay safe! Happy Easter!
Ah great question - I have a key hidden that they can get to, and they always know where it is
Great video Cass. Always a pleasure to watch. And informative as usual. How about a wheel lock for ur trailer. They are effective. Just a thought.
It's a great thought Wes, I've just never picked one up. Mostly as the storage in the 4Runner was a lot tighter and I didn't have room for one
Great info! It should be no wonder to anyone who has come to “know you” through your You Tube channel why the ever so precious Jasper & Napoleon act with the complete confidence of pets who know they are secure, protected, loved & considered in EVERY way by their van Mom! ( whew! hope no English teaches around for that looonng sentence😅). You are so thorough in all you do. Your clients at work undoubtedly experience the same standard of quality & attention. You never cease to impress !!!!
Stay safe ....
I’ve been looking at Waggle for a while. Might be time. We’ve been using another monitor but it only gives temp and humidity. I really like some of the other features on Waggle. Jasper rolling in the snow was great!!
So far I'm really enjoying Waggle, definitely gives peace of mind. Thanks for watching Carol!
How does someone decide to steal sheets from a laundromat? What someone decides to go looking in the washer or dryer, they pull the sheets out and size them up (full, queen or king) and then say hey, these are for me? That's so ludicrous. OMG! I love how much Jasper loves the snow, my dog does too. It's crazy how they get out there and have such a wonderful time, tromping thru, or in Jasper's case, rolling around 😀 in it. Thanks for sharing, especially the details on the Waggle. I'm going to have to get one of those. Once again, great video Cass. I'll see you next week 😉.
Thanks Carl!! I love how happy Jasper is playing in the snow. I literally will drive up tall mountains in the summer to find him some just so I can share in his joy. Thanks for watching!
Very good tips, and great precautions for the pets. Valles Caldera only has a couple of places you could have taken Jasper, and those are close to the entrance, (you probably knew that.) lol Plan "B" and seeing Jasper have a ball in the snow was great. It was easy to tell he was having a blast and enjoying it all. Until next time... Travel safe.
Thanks Brunnie! If I remember, there is one trail around the caldera that dogs can go on? It was a few miles I think. I could be mis-remembering thou!
Haha 44% humidity would feel so dry, it’s currently 71% here. Thanks for all the great pet tips. 🐶🐱
Good post. Very helpful. What trail/hike shoes you would recommend or the ones you like wearing? Please share. Enjoy and stay safe. Looking forward to your next post
For normal hiking, I wear Vasque hiking boots. The ones I was breaking in here are Crispis. Much more expensive, but when I go off-trail with Jasper they have much better support. They are a heavy boot though
I could use a Waggle for out pets we take on the road. Thanks for the introduction! Jasper really gets into the snow. Looked like he was trying to make a snow dog, instead of a snow angel. My friends had their boat and RV stolen right out of their driveway. They never found them. Good thing their dogs weren’t inside. Do you use the Garmin satellite radio to notify friends when you’re out of range from Wi-Fi?
Yes, I have the Garmin InReach Explorer which has the satellite communication, and it goes with me everywhere
It's so cute that Napoleon likes sleeping under a blanket. Love New Mexico. Love seeing it through your lens. Are you camped southeast of Santa Fe like toward Lamy? Thank you!
Hi from Savannah, GA. I love your channel and have watched all your vids. I'm wanting to get a Basecamp 20x and travel with my cat. How do you handle the litter box? Is there anyway to keep litter from scattering all over the floor? How do you deal with the smell? Thanks for all the great content!
Sorry for the slow response Todd! The litter went under the bed. I found Cedar litter was the best as it spread the least. I also cleaned the box after he used it each time to keep the smell down.
Think Beyond the wheel podcast talks about TempStick for monitoring RV temperatures.
Does Jasper also have some kind of tracker? Just in case you loose sight of him and he by accident gets out of earshot.
He does not, but I don't have any worries about him leaving. He is very good at staying with me, and he's usually on a lead when he's outside
Wheel locks maybe………
I've thought about those but have never taken the time to dig in. Thanks for sharing that tip!
It's always an issue when you have animals especially dogs and heat but you have it all worked out.
Definitely adds a lot more to the planning. Thanks for watching Mike!
I just moved out of Santa Fe last month. Treat yourself to an extra special meal at Tomasita's in the Railyard District while you're in town. 🙂 🍖
Can Napoleon 🐈⬛ breathe well under the blanket? Don't he feel stuffy?
He breathes just fine under there. He's the one that always buries himself in there
When are we going to see the truck camper?
In a few more weeks! I have a backlog of Basecamp videos I'm trying to get edited and then I'll film new ones with the truck camper
I was think about getting a waggle for my basecamp. However the reviews online say it doesn’t measure temp accurately, the tech support is difficult. So setup is easy. How about functionality? What has been your experience?
My experience is it depends where you put it. When it was mounted near the ceiling, it read very hot comparatively. So I put it lower and out of sunlight and I found the temp to be fine.
How many hours at a time do you leave Napoleon in there? I'm considering a career involving a lot of travel but I want my cat to be comfy and have her own territory, so I'm considering a similar setup. Thing is the job requires long hours so that worries me
It all depends on the weather, but I really try not to leave him in there for very long by himself
Did I miss it, or do you put a little food out for kitty as well as the water?
The cat food is stored under the bed, and is always out. He free feeds so it's always there
What temps do you set the waggle alert to?
It’s going to depend on where you have it located. Higher near the ceiling it’ll go off a lot sooner than if it’s lower in the camper. So I had it alert me at 70, but that was based on where it was located.
How accurate have you found Waggle? I have used one attached to an interior (wooden) wall of our Airstream and found it generally over estimates the temperature by 10-15F compared to a standard thermometer...
So far, it has been pretty accurate. The temperature in the Airstream varies wildly between the different sections and high or low areas. So it more comes down to where I place it in the trailer
What do you suggest to keep a cat warm in a camper while in cold temps for 4-5 hours?
Have you had problems with Jasper or Napoleon damaging things while you're away? Are they able to open the door accidentally? Concerned about taking my dogs with me. Thanks!
Neither Jasper or Napoleon are destructive when I'm away. They are very well behaved in that sense, so I don't have any worries about them. If the door is locked, they can't get through the metal door.
So right now in Arizona with the high prices and inflation, we have a lot of homeless all of a sudden. I am betting your blankets were taken by a homeless person. You can feel good that at least your misery probably is helping someone right now. I know it is wrong, but at least if you are going to get thieved, at least you can feel good that someone is probably getting some help over it. Sorry that happened, and I am embarrassed that happened where I live.
That's such a good way to look at it. I hope they found a good home where they are making someone more comfortable
Napoleon: "you guys always go where that cold white stuff gets in my fur and melts... I will stay here, thanks. Cover me back up and don't slam the door behind you!"
Hahah!
