JD Martinez with LA an All Star with 23 hrs so Mets really did not do their homework when it comes to Martinez
I usually don't care for all of Sal's screaming and antics but in this case he's absolutely right. He needed to hire Alderson to help with the transition and Alderson is the one that hired the failed GMs. The one thing I would say is in hindsight maybe Cohen shouldn't have said anything about wanting to be the Dodgers of the east and he wants to win a ring in 5 years. Too many idiotic fans took the bait and bought into that. Not realizing that it takes time to build what the Dodgers have built. If you want long sustained success you gotta work out the processes behind the scenes, if you're just building for quick championship opportunities you're bound to get burned like we did this season.
The problem with this team is the want a quick fix to the solution. You have to build a culture and mindset in order to have a successful season. Starts with replenshies and focusing on the farm system.
Completely agree and they have the perfect template to follow in their own division (Braves) who've mastered this blueprint for decades. The problem is the NY media who constantly create headlines, stir up controversy, and pretends to speak for the fans which essentially riles everyone up about the methodical rebuilding process (stupid headlines like; Mets need to sign THIS big name FA). It pressures the Mets (who are in competition with the almighty Yankees) to execute patch jobs (ie: sign 40 yr old free agents) in fear of losing $$ and fans.
Exactly
Yep
I agree with the culture part. Accepting losing has been a part of the Mets culture for decades and it has to stop. We keep waiting for the front office and players, but it has to start with the fans. We have to demand it.
This dude needs to chill out😮
FAN should have put BT and Sal in the afternoon slot. They have the best show on the FAN.
Him and BT are gunna be insane I love it
They both suck, nobody is tuning in for them
As a Braves fan, watching this is hilarious, but the Mets need to take a page out of the Braves' playbook. Bring up the young guys, extend them, and don't blow your money on flashy FA signings. So yeah, don't go after Ohtani. You won't win anything with Ohtani if the rest of the roster sucks.
I’m a life long Braves fan too. And I hope the Mets (or any other NL East team like the Phillies) don’t get Ohtani. Mets and Phillies are underperforming. Ohtani has the potential to win on the mound every 5th outing and is a difference maker at the plate every game.
That said, I don’t think the Mets contend this year, Sherzer and Verlander are both at the end of their careers but the team that’s gets Ohtani this off season can build around that for the next decade.
Tell me about it.
They definitely are trying to get to that point (uncle steve has said over and over again that the big FAs was to hold over until the farm got to that point) but that's hard to do when the farm system you inherit is trash. And like even if his farm system has been perfect since he took over and the guys we traded for will all be stars (one of which is completely unrealistic let alone both) it will take a while to even see that progress at the major league level because they got to get there first. I don't think we will see any of the guys we traded for until the last month of 2024 at the earliest. But 2025 just seems a lot more realistic.
Cohen has wanted Stearns for forever. Now he’s got him. Let’s see what happens. 🧐
Eppler as GM in LA from 2015-2020 was 415-453!!! HE STINKS!!!
Brodie 2.0.
Sal is becoming a mush like Francesa used to be a mush. He talks about how the Mets are going to the playoffs, Merry Buckmas, all this nonsense. First game after the all-star break, they look totally comatose and lay an egg, getting 1 hit by the Dodgers. After he declared the division race over on May 31st last year. Talk about some ice cold takes, lol.
Some of those media clowns get paid by teams to direct public opinion, notice how they always defend the team and owner and never agree with the fan, they have to kiss up to the team or they wont get player/coach/management interviews and media stories, sports radio sucks today, that why Buck is so respected despite being overrated as a manager he is on the in crowd with the media guys its why none of them ever criticise him.
THE NL EAST IS OVAH!
That never gets old.
There's a reason the Braves win the division every year with half the money the Mets spend.
Scouting & player development >>>>>>> Over-spending on free agents
We had no farm we had no money we still don't have a pitch lab 😂 Remeber we are still paying Bobby
Also they pay out their players before they even go near free agency. So really they pay way less than they would if they let them go to free agency.
Sal is the goat!!!
I'm sure Steve Cohen is doing everything he can to win. But, duh, it's not working. Successful season, lol, okay......make a move, Steve.
You win a ring by getting players you can improve and then improving them to build the most complete team. Look at the Mets' roster and count the guys that are better now than their first game as a Met. Now look at the Astros, Braves, Dodgers, Rays, etc. and do the same. Blame the players all you want, but the front office selected these players and they have no clue how to get the right guys or how to improve them.
Alvarez, Baty, Nimmo, Alonso I would say Vientos but we have to see him more and Mauricio hasn't been called up yet. Since first game as a Met I have those names.
@@yeshua3374 Right, so that's 4 out of 26. Now count the players who are underperforming or are clearly not as advertised. Now go back in Mets history and recognize how this has played out over and over again for decades. This is a franchise that continues to accept losing and that is the real problem. It transcends players, GMs, owners, and generations of fans.
@@Base1986 Its also one who used to get rid of prospects because they couldn't afford free agents, doesn't have a pitching lab or an owner who cared all that is changing 🤙
@@yeshua3374 Nothing will change until the franchise...and the fans...refuse to accept losing. It's that simple. I say this as a Mets fan: THE reason people love George Steinbrenner is because he never accepted losing. Winning cures all. Spying on players, collusion, getting kicked out of baseball...that stuff is rarely talked about. He is remembered as a winner because he built a culture of refusing to lose and that's what it takes.
@@Base1986 That isn't true my friend The Boss took 5 years to start winning took him time to build. He bought them
In 73 they won 77-78 and then didn't win again until the 90s most of the Yankees rings 20 to be exact were won BEFORE THE METS EXISTED
Mike Francesa is GOD
This guy is using a female style of argument. Make a point, point gets shot down, then immediately shift the focus of the argument. An endless stream of jibberish.
Tell us why the Mets celebrated like they won the World Series
winning a totally meaningless game in extra innings on Sunday.
It was pathetic watching them celebrate.
They should be ashamed of themselves and not be celebrating
being 7 games under .500 now.
Im sorry, I cant see any way this Tierney/Lacata thing will work. Maybe they shouldve stuck him with Evan
Two loudmouths can't work together very long . Take Mike and the Mad Dog.
@@jk3521I guess 20 years isn’t very long 🤣🤣
It'll be great
Maybe but we don't know until we know...lol I actually think they will be entertaining.
It’s a slam dunk to pair Evan with sal don’t know why wfan can’t see this
Buck needs to go.....now. If he doesn't, then Cohen can be blamed. This is a systemic problem, not an individual problem. Joey Cora needs to be interim manager for the rest of the year. Cohen needs to make a move. Buck won't be here next year. Cohen doing nothing has not worked. Make the move. We've defended ownership and management for too long. Transition my ass.
Have to spend the money until you rebuild the farm system. That’s why the Dodgers are revela the every year.
hey Sal,,,Cohen does not know BASEBALL....
I like Sal but it seems he might be trying to hard to be something he’s not. Sal you are not Carton and that is a good thing.
Thank goodness, because Carton barely talks sports.
Mets caller talking like he’s a Yankees fan. It takes steps to be entitled lol
Ssssh go nap cornball
So does the host
Mets hire cashman pls.
Rich showed what the problem is with many Mets fans. He doesn't have the smarts to see the big picture, understand how the process works, or knows how to peel the onion to see the other layers. He only sees the the ring. He is a poster boy for wanting a team to buy buy buy without any patience. In other words Rich is the opposite of a Braves fan. 🤣
$450 😂
You forgot to put the capital M after. It's $450M 😂.
He love that 101 wins and to blow the division and got bounce out in the first round
Sal is gonna get roasted everyday
SAL'S THE MAN 🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🇮🇹🤙🤙🤙🤙🤙
