So many important points brought up here! I think it's so easy, at least for myself, to get caught up with wanting to try new things and set up a bunch of tanks. When I first stepped back into fishkeeping as an adult, I ended up with six tanks for sick Bettas and I drove myself crazy. It wasn't good when seasonal depression hit. Now after a break, and trying out just aquatic plant keeping, I've found I'm happy with my one betta tank, one garden jar, and daydreaming of a 40 gal for some rummy nose tetras. It sometimes takes time to hone in on what makes you happy in the hobby.
I reentered the hobby just under three years ago. I had grand plans for a incredible 75 gal tank. I spent a lot of time thinking about the choices I was faced with. In the end I set up a heavily planted 14 gal rimless cube and I am glad I decided on a small tank. I have several other pursuits in life that I enjoy and adding fishkeeping into the mix demanded a balance.
I'm glad you brought this up I found it very interesting to listen to. I have 22 nano tanks plus a handful of bins of water, plants and fish on the floor. After re-entering the hobby in 2016, I found myself drawn to guppies because cross breeding and genetics peeked my interest. Guppies are fun but I realize now that the more they pop out new colors and patterns the easier it is to not think twice when I need to set up a new tank for another breeding project. I'm at the point where I look at some of my stains and am trying to decide whether I want to keep them or not. I find the biggest issue is I have so many cross breeding projects in my mind that I want to do but have no space for and honestly no time to maintain if I added any more tanks. Any whose, I really liked your talk and it resinated with me.
