  • I bought this mixer at Home Depot a few years ago, and finally used it for the first time today.
The mixer performed well, the cement I chose did not.
Only minor complaint about the mixer is the wheels, bigger would have been better, but it got the job done.
Second project went much better. Used High Strength mix instead of Fast Set and things went a lot smoother.

You should not use fast setting in these situations. You can’t mix fast enough with this tiny mixer to avoid joints. Plus, you can add a hell of a lot more in the mixer too.

looks like you mixed it too dry just my opinion.

      You are probably right.
When I used it to fix my sidewalk I had much better luck, and mixed it more 'soupy' than what I did with the slab. I also used High Strength for my 2nd project and Fast Setting for this video. The High Strength was cheaper and seemed to work out better.

I just bought a 1.6 yardmax mixer and it went together well and ran dry. Ok now when I started to mix my first 50 lb bag it stopped turning at about 3/4 of a bag and the concrete was wet. I had 24 more to go so I took off the plastic control cover and all I could see is that the belt was rubbing on the housing. I moved the belt out away from the housing and lined it up better with the motor and it ran great after that. 25 bags of quikrete Thought it might help.

I have the same mixer fasr set was wrong regular m8x is the best if you no concrete skills and always always put a least half of your water in first then add as needed

That was my first time using the mixer, I've gotten a lot better since.
Just poured a 4x4 slab for my new water tank and it came out pretty nice.
Check out the Well Project playlist if you want to check it out.

need good concrete mortar mix that allow for plenty of working time, stay away from that fast setting mixes

Yup. that was definitely a lesson learned. I've pours a few more slabs using 'High Strength' mix that came out a lot better. Fast Set or Fence Post Mix definitely are a no-go in the mixer.

laugh whenever i see people not put the water before the cement mix... making it so much harder on you/your machine, and takes much longer. I would have done it twice as fast with a 5 gallon bucket and a drill with a mixing bit. Its simple, 1 gallon of water BEFORE you put in the cement mix. I've installed many fenced dog enclosures and also done panel fences for properties over an acre in size....

This was my first time using a mixer, so pretty sure I made mistakes.
Definitely not a professional looking slab, but at least my feet don't get muddy when I step off the deck now.

The instructions specifically state to put in the dry ingredients first with the motor running and then add the liquid.

I find it to be too small to be useful for anything more than pavers or motar or if you are laying tiles

Use forms for shaping, add more water to mix, work faster and have tools like float.

You are too kind, it was total shit work :)
First time using it, and used Fast Set mix which was a really bad idea.
Future projects using High Strength mix came out a lot better.

1.6 cubic feet. Holds a 60 pound bag at a time. Might hold more, but never tried to over load it.
I've used it in a few more projects since this video, and it works great.

@@TwoAcreHomestead 0.3 is 40 pound bag. 0.6 is a 80 pound bag. 1.6 cubic feet the machine is and 80 pound bag is 0.6 cubic feet. So there is 1 cubic feet left over. Should get 3 bags at least or 4 at the most.

@@chief8879 The mixer is rated in total volume of the drumb. It can’t be filled all the way and mix.
