Magnetic solar storm and the evening propagation of medium radio waves in Bulgaria, 11.05.2024

MW radio reception during of a strong geomagnetic storm in Ruse, Bulgaria. Almost complete absence of ionospheric propagation of medium waves. Strong degradation at nearby radio signals and a very complete lack of the most. Evening radio reception that is weaker than traditional daytime radio reception.

That radio blackout was spectacular, especially on SW (it was literally completely blank in the morning and by noon). AM, overall, was doing better. In the evening even the LW band was OK except for BBC4 which was missing. 📍~350 km to the west from @PavelYonchev

Thanks! BBC Radio 4, "it's tough" here, whatever the conditions. I usually listen to it at 2 UTC+2, after midnight.

@@PavelYonchev Yes, indeed. Same timezone - BBC4 could be heard only after 00:00 (EEST), and due to heavy EMI in the residential area, on a whip antenna, rather than on a dedicated LW-loop.
