    These were just revolutionary when they came out. I saw commercials about them amd thought they would catch on big, shows what I know. They are still cool for some and not for some depending on ones taste. I still like them.. enjoy your bike Sir.

    I had two of these. A 1990 like this one. It got totaled with me on it while I was waiting my turn at a stop sign from behind. I had one of those flashing tail light safety devices. When I was coming to on the ground, I heard the guy that hit me explaining to the cops that he saw my tail light flashing and thought I was pulling away.
    most profitable paid nine month vacation of my life
    I replaced it with a black, 1994 Pacific Coast, which I commuted on for the next 24 years until I retired..
    overtime was strictly optional on Saturday. I was the only person that never turned on a single Saturday, I had kids in college. I usually commuted six days a week for approximately eight months, a year, 31 mile round-trip every day on back roads… I would be the guy you would see riding to work in the drizzle. The threat of rain late in the day never kept me from riding to work. I actually enjoyed riding in the rain because, you never concentrate more than when you’re riding in the rain. You can’t think of nothing else…
    I had a tall windshield, the best Corbin seat of the seven I’ve had so far, I installed two springs beside the trunk latch so when I pull the lever, the trunk would pop up about half an inch, so I could open it with one hand instead of using two..
    I upgraded the shocks to IKON shocks, which are koni shocks, they sold the company to a company in Australia, and they simply moved the letters in the name around to imply the flip on the location of our planet..
    I had soft foam grips, and I installed real horns, using a horn relay and 12 gauge wire, so they were fed properly. They were VOXBEL horns. that I saved from my Moto Guzzi, SP 1000..
    I never had a single part fail on my Pacific coast. It ran fine on regular gasoline at all times. Thanks to having dual spark plugs per cylinder. This thing would even run on Mexican gasoline… I did a few 430 mile days from my home here in Pittsburgh to the Delaware shore per year.. I never felt the heat coming from the radiator or the engine even on the hottest days.
    I loved that it had a drum rear brake. I was commuting, which are the hardest miles on brakes and tires. When I sold that machine, it still had the original brake shoes in the back.
    I wish Honda would have kept making the Pacific coast, but with a Larger engine version, with a drum brakes in the rear, but with a single disc in the front. Most motorcycles do not need to have dual discs. And all motorcycles could benefit from having just one disc in the front. Les unsprung weight.. that is not the same as adding weight on the seat, or in the trunk, unsprung weight hampers your suspension. It is so critical that Porsche has been using titanium Lugnuts to save a few announces for decades. Your suspension is always working very hard, and even a few ounces makes a big difference Ian, how quickly your suspension absorbs a bump, the energy goes into the spring, the oil in the shock or fork, controls the spring. When you have a lighter wheel, Les on sprung wait, that’s cycle is shortened, and your suspension can recover quicker and be ready for the next month and the next bump..
    I would also like to see them, bring back the Pacific coast, but without traction control, or ABS. These committees that most of them are probably not even motorcyclists come up with these safety features, there are dangerous. I was riding my BMW K 1200 LT with ABS brakes down a steep hill that was covered with fly ash cinders.. I had no brakes all the way down that hill, none front or rear. I actually had time to pick a place to crash into which happened to be a cyclone fence around the salvage yard. I was lucky I only brought the front fender and didn’t go down with that 900 pound machine. ABS is different on cars or vehicles that have more than two wheels. But when you only have one wheel that does 90% of your stopping, and that wheel loses its ability to apply the brakes, that is deadly. On a car, you have three other wheels when one wheel gets taken over by the ABS and does not apply the brakes… someone needs to save us from those that are trying to save us..
    I even got caught in the snow, a couple times at work on my Pacific coast, and I was able to make it home because I did not have ABS. If I had ABS call me if I was riding my BMW that day, I would not have made it out of the parking lot at work… I made it home fine on my Pacific coast. Those few times I got caught in the snow…
    As far as I’m concerned having had 24 years experience with one of my Pacific coast, motorcycles, and three years experience with the one before that one. I have had many dozens of motorcycles over the decades. Goldwing, three, Venture’s, 4 Moto Guzzi’s.. dirt, bikes, motocross, bikes, trials, bikes, commuter bikes, dual sports, big, touring bikes, road racing machines on which I won six championships, two time national champion.. I consider the Honda pacific coast, the most useful, best all-around motorcycle in the history of the universe. I always have more than one street bike at a time, when I retired, I actually had eight motorcycles. But with that revolving garage door of motorcycles, I’ve had over the decades, I went almost 28 years owning one or the other Pacific coast. neutral handling, adequate power, 48 hp. Fair, gas, mileage, generally around 45, but that was city driving mostly commuting. And when you’re on the same route thousands of times, you get to know every ripple in the road., and you tend to sprain the speed limit. I have carried cases of beer home from the beer distributor in my Pacific Coast saddlebags. One improvement they need if they bring it back is, they need to come up with a common size tire. There are only two companies that make sets of tires for this machine, Dunlop, and Metzler no other selection for complete sets of tires… The pop off mirrors on tethers are in the right place. You don’t look at your elbows all day..
    it broke my heart to sell my Pacific Coast after all those years together after I retired. But I had a Goldwing, a Moto, Guzzi, Norge, and a Suzuki V Strom, 1000. At the same time I had my Pacific Coast, which I was no longer commuting on. So I sold it. ..
    The only reason I sold it is because it was the oldest machine in my garage.. being objective, I could tell it was dated, and it was time to go.. Even if it was the most useful best motorcycle, I have ever owned

    Hey I have one question, is this a smooth manual shift bike, or is it automatic? Most auto-shift bikes are referred to as scooters..so is that why they called it a scooter on steroids? Just curious!

    • @frankiej9642
      @frankiej9642 6 років тому +1

      It's not an automatic, it's manual with a normal clutch. It can look a little like a scooter from the back view because of the way the plastics go around the storage on both sides of the rear tire, ie the trunk.
