    Amazing job done here Harry. One of the best videos of the series. I am facing the difficulty of achieving higher accuracy during timed environments but when I approach RC questions in untimed environments, the accuracy improves. How to tackle this Harry?

    • @Tomsoyerxy

      Same problem here! I also face lower accuracy in timed environment. Would you recommend to spend more time on a RC so i get the right answer even if I don't have time to answer every question of the verbal section? It would be great if you have some advices @GMATNinjaTutoring :)

    Thank you so much Harry. My question is: since in the video you give us about 1 min -1min 30 sec to read each paragraph of the long passage, is it ok in the exam to spend around 4 minutes just to READ the text? I'm thinking that longer reading time is rewarding if you get maybe 3ish questions that relate to the paragraph, but sometimes you only get 1 and end up wasting time.

    Question: The GMAT long body questions are not divided by lines into different paragraphs. I understand that you can make your own paragraphs, when there is a change of topic. But then it asks questions about the first or second paragraph which is quite confusing to me since I don't know where the paragraph starts or ends (officially).thank you for me help :)

    Hi Harry! I’m here watching the RC series with 7 days left for my exam. My nerves are fried from trying to tackle these long passages under timed conditions.
    My performance on mock 2 dropped because I ended up getting 3/4 long passages, and, I got an RC passage towards question number 26. Basically it was a snowball effect. I’m trying to find the most effective way to tackle RC given my tendency to panic towards the latter half of the section. Would really like your advice on this, since I’m not that good in CR, so I’m relying on RC and SC to carry the bulk of my verbal score.
    Also, can you tell me on average, how many questions would accompany a long passage? Sometimes on the OG, one long passage has 3 questions, sometimes a passage may have as many as 8! How should I allocate my time for such cases, or just for long passages in general?

    Hi team! Great insights. I just want to ask a generic question: Even after following the suggested thought process on how to work through the passages i.e. looking at the big picture, thinking why the passage is written and thinking how different paras relate to each other, the "closeness" of the answer choices in the questions raises some issues. The nuances of the answer choices sometimes interfere with my original grasp of the whose passage. I just have to look back into the passage to confirm and knock out the very closely related answer choices. How do you suggest I can reduce time on that? Brute force of practicing more RCs is the way to go? (I guess the conventional answer would be to have a solid grip on the passage right after the first read, but that is always a challenge given the time constraint.)

    In Passage 1 ( 3 Question) I was confused between B and E but went with E. Can you please explain how C is not the answer since. The earlier paraghs mean that Caffeine inhibits P and binds instead. Here inn the highlighted part, it says that it doesn't inhibit but is faster to bind, so in a way E is right, right?

    Hi team, thank you a lot for these amazing series on RC.
    My question is regarding to the second passage. From the last paragraph of the passage, Harry clearly understands the hierarchy in plants which is hormones-enzymes-stem wall-Oligos. How did he deduce that? Okay I understand that the passage states that O's are released by enzymes and five hormones activates enzymes. But, in the second paragraph, we are given that 5 hormones and O's are two different types, therefore I thought that O's and 5 hormones each have a different type of hierarchy.

    • @GMATNinjaTutoring
      @GMATNinjaTutoring  10 місяців тому +3

      You're right that in the second paragraph, we're told that tells us that oligosaccharins and the five well-known hormones are of a different type, but this difference is only about the effect they have. The five hormones are pleiotropic rather than specific. This doesn't mean they will necessarily have a different type of hierarchy.
      The first paragraph tells us that the turning on, or expressing of genes is accomplished by "a complex system of chemical messengers that in plants includes hormones and other regulatory molecules." The oligosaccharins are one of these other regulatory molecules, so they operate in the same system as the five hormones.
      Since they operate in the same system, it's reasonable to suggest that the oligosaccharins and the five hormones operate together in a single hierarchy. Then, in paragraph five, the hierarchy is described: the pleiotropic plant hormones activate the enzymes that stimulate the cell wall to release the oligosaccharins.
      I hope that helps!

      So para 1 states that the plant harmones and regulatory molecules control how genes are expressed in a plant cell. It also states that Oligosaccharins are a newly identified class of regulatory molecules. Now we can easily see that E would be the answer. Hope that helps!

  • @SAUPAYANMAZUMDAR
    @SAUPAYANMAZUMDAR Рік тому

    The way I answered Q3 of passage 1 was:
    Synder et all are trying to find support for their theory. Their theory is that caffeine stimulated brain by prohibiting A. But how do we know what prohibits A? It's not like we can look at the brain. So, we have to rely on external observable results. These observable results are "locomotion in mice". Look at the amount of locomotion in a mouse is directly proportional to the efficacy of the stimulant. THIS IS AN UNSTATED (i.e. UNDERLYING) ASSUMPTION. So, my answer is A
    Why did I reject B?
    Well, Snyder's exp has nothing to do with proving mouse locomotion. It has everything to do with brain stimulation. So, brain stimulant making mice move IS NOT REALLY A FINDING. The passage seemed to suggest they already know it (hence not a FINDING). They just use that knowledge to test the efficacy of a stimulant.
    What did I read wrong/get wrong here? Can someone please elaborate? Thanks in advance

    • @harryduthie
      @harryduthie Рік тому

      It might be easier to see how to answer this question if we focus on the question and on answer choice (B) first. The question asks us about why the author quotes Snyder et al. in the passage. We don't need to figure out why Snyder et al. did their experiment or what they were trying to show. We just need to figure out what the author was trying to do when they quoted Snyder.
      The first half of the third paragraph tells us that Snyder et al. performed an experiment and what they were trying to show. Then we're given the quotation this question is based on, and we get a clue to the answer from the word "report" used around the quotation. The quotation tells us (or reports) what Snyder et al. found when they performed their experiment. In other words, it summarizes a major finding of their experiments in a single sentence. This is exactly what (B) tells us, and this is why (B) is the answer to this question.
      To see why (A) is not the answer, we can take another look at the quotation. We're explicitly told that the experiment showed that the efficacy of the stimulants (in how they competed with adenosine at the receptor site) is directly proportional to how well they stimulated locomotion in the mouse. Since this is stated in the passage, it is not an unstated or underlying assumption.
      Finally, a smaller but still relevant issue with answer choice (A) is that it tells us the quotation reveals "some of the assumptions." This suggests there should be more than one assumption revealed in the quotation if (A) is the correct answer to this question. The quotation only makes a single point, so it's very hard to see how the author could be using this quotation to reveal multiple assumptions. For these reasons (A) is not the answer to this question.
      I hope that helps!

    • @AshayVishnoi
      @AshayVishnoi Рік тому

      Same! I also got A for the same reasons. The scientists used the correlation between the mice locomotion and the ability of compounds to compete at receptors as the underlying assumption to prove their theory. This was NOT a finding. This was something they assumed to be true and went on to prove their hypothesis. Let me know if you find any proper explanation.
