I have purchased a ton of tools over the last decade for 3d printer builds, repairs, mods, and projects. Some of them have been great while others have been a pretty big let down. In this video I cover my top 5 favorites. I tried my best to avoid commonly mentioned tools in hopes some of these will be new for you.

I 100% agree with the Knipex pliers wrench. As someone that works in the trades all my pliers are Knipex. They can’t be beat.
That’s German engineering for you. Tools designed to out live the user even if they’re used on a daily basis.
I’ve got a few tools made over 100 years ago and still abuse them myself today with no damage to them or the fixings I use them on.
Since you mentioned knipex, i also recommend their flush cutters. Much better than the included ones from printers. The tips are sturdier, so those stay usable for longer. I use them for about everything, cutting wires, stripping wires, cutting filament, support removal, removing the nasty bits of skin sticking up at your finger nail to name a few (underrated perk imo).
I second the Wera hex/allen keys. Used a few different generic sets ovwr the years and the Wera are WAY worth the investment.
Wera Hex Plus are the best allen keys. I absolutely second that as someone who works with allen keys on a daily basis. When you round a bolt with generic allen keys the Wera are still gripping so you can loose it
As a bike mechanic, all wera tools are the best, they never disappoint (mabye the wallet but at least they last a long time)
WERA screwdrivers all the way, especially the small Microdrive ones, when it goes down to TX5 or 2mm and smaller
I was gifted a set of Knippex Smooth Pliers for Christmas and they are AMAZING! Lots better than standard channel locks and less damage. The Omnifixo was the best tool purchase of 2023!
That’s a great Christmas gift! Absolutely, hands down the best helping hands setup I have ever seen or used.
The Knipex pliers wrench whith their parallel working jaws are realy great.
Worth every penny.
Really enjoyed the video! Personally I've spent more money on tools then I would like to say lol but I always like to think they're an investment. Another great addition is an electric screwdriver, this might sound silly or a luxury but I've been using mine for a long time and it saved from a lot of time of tidious turning.
Totally agree about the screwdriver. I got a HOTO based on Steve’s recommendations and it’s been solid. I need to remember to use it more but I like it much better than my little wowstick.
I love my Pinecil soldering iron with a 65w USB C charger works like a dream. The silicon usb c cables they sell are also great.
Would definitely recommend everyone to pick up the metabo hpt heatgun over the ryobi. you can digitally set the temp and its such a nice QOL tool.
Great video as always
A deburing tool is great too.
Thanks for sharing your expriences with all of us 🙂
A nice upgrade to the knipex is you can print jaw protectors/ covers so you can add a layer of tpu as a mating surface to better protect parts.
I ordered a TS101 and a Pinecil v2 in December 2023 and sold the Pinecil almost immediately: it just looks and feels cheap. The price difference (~77 € vs. ~52 €) is not negligible for sure, but I still prefer TS101.
Just ordered a pinecil last night after realizing the fire hazard of my cheap kit soldering iron's almost invisible indicator light. Nice to see you recommend it too!
i would put my pegboards and custom printed tool holders high on my favorite tools list.
Great vid! I am going to have to check out the Knipex. Not cheap but they look like good quality! Thanks for the video and nice to see your top tool collection.
Just in time for Christmas
really a good set of any of these tools will do you right
My favourite tools:
-Husky metric&imperial hex set
-Titan dual drive 1/4", 3/8" pear head ratchet from Husky
-ifixit Mako precision screwdriver kit
-Pinecil soldering iron
Favorite tool - mini electric screwdriver! If you ever have to change fep it will be a godsend
Most important tool in my kit is my Wera Hex tool kit.
Aaaaaand there they are. They're fucking magic.
Great video and tools. The Knipex mini clippers are also great.
Are they flush cutters?? Someone else recommended them. I’ll have to check them out.
If youre looking for a good soldering iron, the pinecil is a must have. I should buy a better usb cord but my 30W apple charger does a very decent job at running it and heating up fast (not as fast as in the video, but roughly 15-30s)
Hilarious this video would be up today, I just got home from finally buying my Knipex pliers/wrench after hearing about them from Steve months ago. Also love my Wera keys
Wera has a hex/Allen key bicycle set. It made repairs so much easier. I wish i would have bought them earlier. I will never ever use other hex keys again
I love my precision electric screw driver
They come in so handy.
I've definitely had more instances than one that it would have been nice to have the ball end Allen keys..... I also don't know if I knew REEobi (yes, that's how they say it) made a heat gun, but I'll definitely keep it in mind for the future as well as I already have many Ryobi tools/batteries (as well as those flat Channel wrenches)
some of the coloured covers on my wera set have come loose and it makes it hard to use so I removed them.
If u want CNC Kitchen has heat insert tips for the pinecil
I have been eyeballing them for a while. I am so used to using the standard tip. That is the only reason I havent done it yet.
I shouldn't be allowed to watch more tool videos - But I have to watch .. Just in case I see "new shiny thing!"
I am surprised more makers in the 3D space are not using/recommending a good chisel. I came from woodworking first and find them invaluable - removing brim edges, smoothing out a rough edge, or adjusting fit of two parts where tolerances were not perfect.
i prefer using a deburing tool for that
Are the sleeved wera keys still too thick for the blind joints on 1515 frames?
Id say so. The holes are 3mm in diameter, the sleeving is in the way. But a allen screw driver works. The shown ones are good, but most higher quality brand ones are good. Just please don't use the ball end of your allen keys. If you expect to loosen the blind joint screws more often, i highly recommend swapping stainless steel for black oxide or other carbon steel screws. They are much harder. Most stainless screws are a low grade steel, about equivalent to a grade 4.8 screw. Meanwhile most carbon steel screws are 8.8, 10.9 or even 12.9. The numbers refer to their tensile strength. A 4.8 screw has about half the strength of a 8.8. 8.8 is what you get from a hardware store, the zinc plated ones. 10.9 and 12.9 is what you can find on vehicles or other motorised gear
I have the ryobi and use it all the but doesn't warm as high as a wired one. Read the specs before buying, guys.
Dewalt has a good heat gun also
Great video. Can you recommend a good electric screwdriver? One that has a lot of torque as I've found they generally aren't strong enough.
I have the wowstick for a while and feel the same not nearly enough torque. Check out the HOTO. Another recommendation from Steve I picked up and it has way more oomf.
@@ModBotArmy I also found the wowstick disappointing. I will look into HOTO thank you.
@@ModBotArmycould you suggest the model that you have of the HOTO driver as there seems to be a few models and as someone who never has much of a budget I’d really like to buy once rather than collect a bunch of sub par drivers.
No problem here is the specific one I purchased : amzn.to/3RWk0Uq (Its an affiliate link) It does look like there is a 20% off coupon on the product page. I also got an adapter that lets me use my smaller bits which I am using very often amzn.to/3Scaqy4. For the adapter you may want to shop around to see if you can find a cheaper option. @@freeemailssuck6848
holy shittt. i want the knipex pliers so bad but the priceeeee
Haha it is definitely steep. I would still buy them now knowing how well they work and that I am going to have them for life but prior I would have been pretty hesitant.
@@ModBotArmy What size of Knipex wrench-pliers do you normally find yourself using? 🤔
I'm thinking of just purchasing one as my daily driver.
You can never go wrong with a true engineer's hammer either.
If you can't find one of those, a IT manager's hammer will do as a substitute.
holy shit I feel seen, I have every single one of these
0:31 if 5 were difficult, just made another video with the other 5.
Wera…top notch…Knipex…top notch…but Ryobi???? 😂 get a Dewalt.
I did a lot of research before deciding I was going with the Ryobi ecosystem. For the home diyer or occasional project it’s hard to beat the price and selection. I have yet to have an issue with their tools.
@@ModBotArmy granted. I personally have and hate Ryobi because of their reliability and power. In my line of field I can’t risk it.
Do not use those pencil hold hot air guns. They will literally melt and smell up your space. Truuuuuuust me. It almost caused a fire.
First 😂
Second 😭
Third "/
Number 1 are just cheap vise grips without the normal lock that most have. Any tradesmen will NOT call them pliers where I live even tho they are a form of them. Only vise grips are adjustable not normal pliers
He's obviously not a tech.
