His voice sounds so different from his speaking parts to when he sings lol like two different people he has a really nice singing voice
The kiwi accent was exaggerated a bit because it can come across comical, for example check out Taika doing the voice over for Korg in Thor Ragnarrok.
Also sidenote: at one stage he used his David Bowie impression mid song and he nailed it as usual. Check out Bowies in space by Flight of the Concords for reference

Most people are commenting about the voice actors and how good they are. But we should really be taking more notice of how everyone else is! The orchestra is amazing! The background Vocalists are beautiful and the editing of the movie is bloody amazing! Good job ALL of you!

Auli'i is so amazing! She's so pretty and talented and...just...she is awesome! The way she reacts to meeting her costars...protect Auli'i. She is too good for this world! I can't say enough good things about her even though I've never met her! And it's really cool how they sculpted a 3D model of the island then used their computers to draw over it - I've never seen that before for an animated movie!

The T-10 they're actually working on a Little Mermaid live action right now and Lin is supposed to team up with Alan M. (I forget his last name) and work on new original music for it. Its more of the popularity of the movies that they then are decided to become into live actions. I'm pretty sure if you start a petition and get a lot of signatures and send it to a producer, they'll think about it and probably decide (depending on budgets also)

The reason animators sometimes make their animations look like their real counterparts is because that makes it easier for them to animate faces and facial expressions. Look at Woody and Buzz from Toy Story, for example: they look like Tom Hanks and Tim Allen, respectively. Or even in Shark Tale: they made Oscar look like Will Smith, they made Lola look like Angie Jolie, and they made Don Lino look like Robert DeNiro.
