Aww, he’s learning. As soon as he saw there weren’t any fingers holding the nut, he was in! In my opinion, just getting him to come that close is half the battle. ❤️🐿
What a cute little fella (or gal)! He's still timid, but significantly more willing to approach. I love the way he used his hand to scoop the nut close enough to pick up with his mouth without getting closer to you. Progress!
It is a boy. He is so cute! There is a second baby. I don’t know if that one is a boy or a girl yet. It won’t come as close as this one yet! We are supposed to get 10 to 12 inches of snow tomorrow. I hope all my squirrellies will be ok out there!❄️🐿️
LOL. You do exactly what I do when trying to hand feed a squirrel. I hold it, then when the squirrel comes close but chickens-out at the last second, I just end up giving it to them. I notice once they chicken-out, they never seem to come back during that specific feeding session. You have to try again later.
@@MelGsBackyardSquirreling For sure. Especially if you're trying to train them to eat out of your hand. The big walnuts really seem to make a huge impression on them. The fact that Walnuts are so big, is like gold to them. Makes the training all the easier. And they also really like the taste of Walnuts, too. This year I started buying Walnuts out of the shell as well, and they love it so much, that they won't even want any peanuts. LOL. Pecans, walnuts and almonds seem to be their favorite. And their least favorite seems to be brazil nuts and cashews. Of course, they'll still eat them if they're hungry enough.
The little baby is so precious! So close to taking it from you and i was surprised he took it being so close to you. It won't be long and you will hand feed him. They are super cautious when they are so young and that is a good thing to keep them alive from hawks and other bad things out there. Great job Mel😊❤
He is not very scared of me. I think he learned quickly that I am a nut dispenser lol! There is another baby that won’t come so close yet. They are so cute! Thanks John!❤️🐿️
Fear versus hunger. Desire for the walnut wins out. The squirrels in my neighborhood won't come anywhere near me, so I love watching your squirrels.
Aww, I’m so glad that you love watching! And yes they can’t resist a walnut lol! Thank you!😊
One try at a time! ❤🐿❤
Right!! I’ll just keep trying!!😃❤️🌰🐿️
