I'm so glad that more of the pro players are getting involved with making youtube channels and posting videos because for a really long time it felt like, at least on youtube, that the competitive player base was very vocally underrepresented due to most ygo content creators focusing on casual stuff rather than competitive stuff. Which is perfectly fine and people should make the content they want to make, but the overabundance of them made it hard to find videos and channels made by people who took the game more seriously.
Yeah but the downside is the idea that because they're competitive players, they can influence people to play one way and then instantly counter it. Kashtira is still probably the best deck, and he even admits it could be a propaganda video.
facts, for years most yugituber only make meme video and never topping ycs yet they're so loud talking about the banlist and meta. i'm glad when Josh started streaming last year and now Jesse too, so we can hear the opinion from actual good players
The shift in the community's opinions now that actual pro players are creating content is shocking. There's space for all kinds of content but GOD how this was missed.
I haven’t played competitively in about 5 years and slowly want to get back into it; seeing these type of videos is so encouraging. More conversations like this will make the player base better.
Honestly, this might be a sign of a healthy historic format for people to come back to in the future (I call dibs on the name "Fallout Format" since this takes place in the fallout of the Feburary banlist and the first major event is in Las Vegas). If there's no clear best deck and the multi-negate boards are kept to a minimum, this could be a really fun format to play for years to come that has a lot of viable decks.
I think this is your best video yet, tbh. I like hearing your perspective with a high-level look on the viability on the strategy as a whole. Definitely a type of discussion need in the YGO community (an objective look at strategies and their strengths/flaws specifically in the lens of a competitive environment). Aside from gassing you up, this format is actually looking to be quite fun. I don't mind including things to beat the stun strategy of the format and the control/combo decks that will be at the top seem interactive. Looking forward to playing in some events!
Kashtira has the mystic mine problem. When its seen as a threat, its so easy to prepare for and play outs to, that it will have a poor win rate and become unviable. The moment it is no longer seen as a threat because of this, will be when it is at its best, cause people will stop playing outs to it. Then people will prepare for it again and it will immediately become unviable (till it isn't). This will repeat on loop, causing it to come in and out of the format every couple of months
This happened when Branded was still Branded Despia. Structure Deck hits the scene, people start unironically bringing Non-Fusion Area to the table to try and combat it. So much fusion hate appears that the deck felt kinda weird to analyze since there was so much hyperspecific hate for it.
Bystials are in the same boat in engine form. You completely dismantle a lot of chaos strategies and random other decks that use Light/Dark monsters, but it's very mediocre against decks like Kashtira that don't really use Lights or Darks.
Thrust/Tasking can activate immediately since they use shangrira to summon from deck, so you can add small world and immediately search sphere mode or lava golem via a bridge. The best bridges are things like the dangers and lord of the heavenly which are at least somewhat useful if you draw them (eg. heavenly is a big beater)
Same it feels like any other combo/ftk decks that fall down with one power boardbreaker/handtrap . But the fact that it makes us play these cards makes the deck really good .
I built Kashtira on sneak peak Saturday, and was able to play it in a box tournament, under the new banlist, the following Tuesday. My whole tournament experience was going through mental gymnastics trying to play around every single card that outs/counters my decks strategy. It was exhausting, and not nearly as rewarding as it was to pilot Ishizu Tearlament. I sold the Kashtira deck immediately after the first tournament I played with it.
I do not play competitive, much less with serious decks, but this video was incredibly interesting to hear. It’s very well thought out and the wording you used is so simple and clear. I’d love to hear your takes on commonly used decks , it would be a humongous task, but it would be super informative
I agree whole heartedly. Funny how two recent YCS champions are in agreement about this deck yet my local "guu" players keep buying up every Kashtira card, but hey at least I get good trade value.
Definitely want to see more theory videos. Enjoyed seeing a breakdown of the flaws in a top teir deck so rogue players like myself can see how to play around them
Evilswarm Ophion. Blocks tribute summoning, and protects itself from spells/traps. Can’t be turned off by dark ruler. Most Lash monsters SS themselves and don’t need to normal. The Evilswarm engine just normal summons all game lol.
I believe this is a fantastic video series because we can’t find this level of quality elsewhere. It’s really hard to find yugioh theory videos with specific examples anywhere on UA-cam TBH.
Spot on, Kashtira I feel like the best Kashtira build hasn't been figured out yet and knowing the TCG we're probably going to see someone rock something completely out of the blue. The deck gets massacred by high tempo combo decks especially Dino which just got a nice boost. I wouldn't be surprised to see old decks that suffered from lacking a GY last format come of nowhere this format to give the top decks some challenge. Which'll be the one to beat... Bystial Despia would be my guess since they play very well under a lot of oppressive like D-Shifter yet they lose to a lot of things. Same with Bystial Dragon link.
I believe my circle has it figured it out tbh. The point you made about tempo is very true which is why you have to lab around that. Adventure isn’t good imo, and is inferior to iblee, Crossout, punk and other variants. A lot of fun in this format tho
@@TheWiseguysTCG Aye, I just got back from Locals and I played against 2 Kashtira decks both pure. And I'll admit when the deck does what it's trying to do, it's very scary mostly because of how it snowballs particularly because of Diabolosis. However, the deck is very vulnerable to handtraps as well as going second blow outs like Book of Eclipse but naturally they're maining Ash as pseudo counter-measure to it as well.

After hearing how the boards for Kashtira don't have negates, I can see how this deck is just mostly hype. I would still like to get the deck if possible, I was that person who tried to pick up Albaz cards when it came out, thinking the card may have potential later on, and it did
I like how book of eclipse is actually a consideration. Been running that since Branded was T1 (it was my preferred method of outing mirrorjade at least until I got to my effect lock (Magistus).
I think that the best build might be adventure, its endboard doesn't have as high of a ceiling but you can play around nib as well as the books that way. You still die into the sun vs sphere mode and lava golem though... not sure if there is a line where you set up gryphon + preparations for follow up in addition to macroman Also adventure obviously makes your normal summon from birth way less worth it... but I think a lot of people are discounting adventure in Kash. We didn't see it in OCG because OCG nuked adventure engine on their list but its still full power in TCG. Not to mention the big Adventure monsters are level 7s. There's GOTTA be something there.
Main issue is that that variant bricks to high heaven in comparison to the other builds. It honestly becomes a question of wanting consistency vs wanting protection.
@@tariqmcmaster8668 More often then not you find yourself wanting those generic cards over an engine that, more often then not, messes with your plays because you need to open more extension to get around the adventure package and kashtira stuff completely contradicting one another.
I definitely agree that the deck had a LOT to prove in the next few events. If for no other reason than to justify the price point.. I know I’m not dropping 3-400 to put the rest of the deck together lol But if Book cards are an issue.. Siding Dark Simorgh (happens to be a Lvl 7 that can be summoned off the Kashtira continuous spell) is an out.. Lava Golem/Kaiju/Nibiru/Dark Ruler are absolutely the boogie men to Kashtira either way.. but hey. I love trying to think up Wakey outs to problem cards. Lol It’s why I love when @Jesse does those 1 card start impossible end board challenges. 👍👌😄
I'll be honest, I 100% agree with you. I am a casual player, but the only part of the entire deck that I find unfair is the nearly unlimited zone locking. Like, if you were limited to a maximum of 3 zones, then it's be ok. Or even 4. But the fact that it could stop you from even playing just kills the fun. I love to try to out good boards, but if the option is just "draw the out", then there's no fun. It becomes a numbers game thats not enjoyable. Also, I think running Ghost Sister is great if they go first, since you can just play a defensive game and force them to try to go on offense. All in all, I would be more scared of swordsoul than Kashtira.
loving these theory videos/discussion style videos, one thing I would like to see is maybe an even more structured discussion of how to most effectively counter certain strategies like what cards to side in and why, and when to most effectively use them. great video!
There’s also decks that are maindecking outs to Kashtira and ways to negate potential responses like using gamma so your opponent doesn’t ash your book of eclipse. I’m personally using eclipse maindeck in Dinos since they have a pretty good chance this format

I don't always comment on UA-cam videos, but I have to say that you are a very knowledgeable player. I definitely enjoy these kinds of videos. Great explanation. I would say keep it up. These are cool and informative videos. Especially, for someone who hasn't played this game competitively in a long time. I like watching competitive yugioh players.
the inside, on the meta is always good, always love the fact you are the brains behind Duel Night, and you make up the draft and I always hope you win Duel Night because your thought process about decks is crazy good.
Me and a buddy had this conversation recently that Kash was not nearly as good as it was made out to be. A whole lot of engine cards so there's no way you can prepare for the 15 cards that people can play that blow you're deck outta the water. With stuff like branded bystial, swordsoul, and even still flunder to a degree being good decks that can play a ton of handtraps/Board Breakers it almost seems counterproductive to play the deck at all.
nah dawg did you read the title ITS A TRAP!! he's going to bring the deck hes going to throw the top players ,watching jessies vids for his thought process, off and win the whole ycs with kash
Theory videos are good, especially when concerning competitive/tournament mindset. I like how you break things down from a perspective of what you will expect as far as trying to compete. I word that badly, but a minor example would be “I wouldn’t play kashtira until it has a target off it’s back.” Like, it’s a good deck but if everyone is siding cards for it it’s not as good. Any feedback appreciated which is why I gave mine. Good luck !
Good video and yeah if like more raw discussions Also its like to see some collabs with other yugitubers, tourney reviews, meta discussions, Hell do whatever you like
Kashtira is one of those decks that is midranged and can consistently get back from a wipe. It’s whether or not they’ll see the next turn which is important. If they can, they have a good chance of coming back.
Jesse is right about there being a lot of outs but there’s stuff Kash can do to protect itself, mostly for going first. Mask of restrict, big eye with a astral kuribo and secret village, and many floodgates to deter your opponent really going off even if they out the shangri-ira. We’ll see though I guess.
The biggest thing for me is Kash have such a small but very strong core you can put so many disruptors and floodgates in your maindeck that you otherwise would have to side.
Not gonna lie, going into a format where counter-play to the best decks is actually going to be effective sounds pretty exciting after a tier zero format. These kind of formats bring out the most creativity deck building-wise in Yugioh.
@@richard8670 If you find yourself losing to the same one card I imagine that would prompt you to revise your deck-build so that you don’t keep losing to it consistently. You can’t expect your deck to be completely impervious to counter-play and realistically your opponent isn’t always going to have the out. If the combo line in the deck is easy to read or the board is easy to break the better players will start to get creative.
@@richard8670 I don’t know branded too well but I’m pretty sure they can play through their branded fusion/opening being ashed. The amount of new support the archetype has now someone will figure it out.
You asked for feedback at the beginning of the video - your audio is running slightly ahead of the video, which is the most distracting kind of desync since light moves faster than sound normally so it's an inverse of what our brains are used to seeing. If you're using obs or similar, setting a delay on the audio so ideally it comes at the same time as video would be great, but even slightly after the video works too. the content it's self is absolutely sick as hell and please continue to make it!
I like the deck because of how angry the archetype is, I already used the since its worse form (where half the deck is just go2nd card with extender that loses to 1 interruption) and won many locals with it hopefully people with metaheads abandon the deck so I can play it with peace
I like all the videos you have made so far. I know that may not give you too much direction but honestly you have just been doing an above average job with your content over all. Really appreciate the insight
I’m glad Jesse admits his bias while trying to give advice. I just think it’s too early to tell like all things. People were giving Runick crap until they figured it out with sprights. Deck is still young
The deck is high risk high reward. That's what makes kashtira more balanced then what branded will be after cyberstorm access and tear full power. But the deck is too oppressive going first. But if its R/R is like this the it was done on purpose
Just asking, how do you out a Kashtira board with branded fusion if they don’t play around it ? Is it mirrorjade crash into the arise they wrongly left in attack ?
I feel like since there is so much that you can do to counter that deck. I get he's a tear player and he doesn't like Kash. But I like kashtira because it's a beatable deck even at like full power. Tears at full power felt like you couldn't even compete even if you sided everything out for it.
Dunno if enjoy making this videos talking about meta but I do enjoy them alot, seeing your perspective on it is very intriguing, i do agree with you about cashtyra, the deck is way overpriced and its not even that strong, but only after the comunity explores the deck fully we can take conclusions. Also would like to add, vey happy that you created this channel and are active on it i have been enjoying the content alot!
This Might be a Hot Take but I dont think Kashtira will ever get Hit on the banlist Maybe Diabolis but nothing else. The Deck Looks really strong but the TCG is just well better armed than the OCG i think there Are just way to many ways to counter it, like everythink almost works against the deck so i think it will just fall of with the time and doesnt really needs Hits besides Diabolis.
The ocg was prepared for it too. Tear was just so dominate they actually kept kashtira in check. Although, kashtira was beginning to get higher top representation right before the ocg's last banlist
@@chewdoom8415 what I mean is we have much More strong combo decks then the OCG also we dont have Maxx C wich means less fear for combo decks. So I believe this is a deck wich will just get overshadowed with time like Eldlich or Invoked really strong Meta decks that never needed to get hit.
Yes, look how branded got hit in ocg but is still full power in tcg. I know maxx c is a factor there but still, kashtira wont dominate, so there wont be a reason to kill it like tear
@@TheSh1v I think they are gonna limit atleast Magnamut maybe one Bystial more because they are very unhealthy for the game in the long run and one Magnamut is basically enough for the actual archetype. Besides that I think the deck is completely ok Branded fusion can stay at 3 it is very good but not enough to hardcarry anymore.
Hey, what are you looking for in decks that are viable for post banlist meta. I want to hear your thoughts on what you look for and lookout for. Good content looking forward to more ❤
Finally someone with a realistic take on kashtira. The deck is strong in a vacuum, but give it some time and people will realize that it's a glass cannon. The artwork is sick though.
I think labrynth has a good kashtria matchup as we main lava golems and have so many disruptions with our traps especially going first setting 5 and passing it's a toss up going second we just have to hope we draw our outs if we get all zones looked if not, i think it's a pretty fair game.
was wondering why i wasn't subscribed to you... it's 'cause your channel is two weeks old 😂😂 this kinda video is great btw! love hearing the opinions of top players on the meta
Personally, I’d play mask of restrict going first g2 and I’d play swords of concealing light for the mirror. May not be the best but its good for my janky locals.
the second I saw no negates and no variety of defensive options in the endboard I knew the deck was trash, sold all my kashtira related cards the second they spiked in price because I knew people were going to eventually read them.

I was gonna say swords of consealing light but they can chain arise heart banish it.
These videos are basically free coaching. Surprised I didn’t get hit with a monetization ad.
Star Wars reference? Love it Jesse
Bro taking YT casually and racking so much views subs and sponsors in just 3 weeks :)
These videos are great. We can definitely benefit from your ideas and insights both with and without decklists/gameplay. Keep it up!
Even though I don't play tcg, it's just comfy listening to Jesse talking theory. Keep up
the inside, on the meta is always good, always love the fact you are the brains behind Duel Night, and you make up the draft and I always hope you win Duel Night because your thought process about decks is crazy good.
Thoughts on a card like exchange? Technically plays around everything post siding
It reminds me a lot of early drytron, if it goes first almost an ftk but so may bombs that completely blow you out post side
nah dawg did you read the title
ITS A TRAP!!
he's going to bring the deck
hes going to throw the top players ,watching jessies vids for his thought process, off and win the whole ycs with kash
ITS A TRAP
Theory videos are good, especially when concerning competitive/tournament mindset. I like how you break things down from a perspective of what you will expect as far as trying to compete.
I word that badly, but a minor example would be “I wouldn’t play kashtira until it has a target off it’s back.” Like, it’s a good deck but if everyone is siding cards for it it’s not as good.
Any feedback appreciated which is why I gave mine.
Good luck !
Good video and yeah if like more raw discussions
Also its like to see some collabs with other yugitubers, tourney reviews, meta discussions, Hell do whatever you like
I think ppl underestimate kashtira's recovery from a lot of board breakers but we'll see.
It's def not pre ban tear. But that was tear's problem it was so exceedingly flexible it could worm out of it's counter play
This is good content coming from a champion perspective 👌
Weird situation indeed. Love the content!
Rikka sounds like it would have a good match up, I might start playing them going forward 🤷
Can you review the new Shooting quasar support ? I’m curious about what kind of build you would make
These vids are so good man, really informative, thanks for doing these
I very much enjoy this, not just the typical deck profile but also the competitive mentality.
Not gonna lie, going into a format where counter-play to the best decks is actually going to be effective sounds pretty exciting after a tier zero format. These kind of formats bring out the most creativity deck building-wise in Yugioh.
Agreed!
A format where you activate 1 card and instantly auto-win without thinking or being good at the game does not promote "creativity".
@@basedcucco8597 True, just revise your branded deck to not lose to ash. Thanks for the advice
@@richard8670 I don’t know branded too well but I’m pretty sure they can play through their branded fusion/opening being ashed. The amount of new support the archetype has now someone will figure it out.
I’m super hyped for an actual pro player to go into detail and analyse its feasibility
I liked spell cancler in my list but it was better with wind statue and also you had to draw it or find it with prosperity
That’s an interesting tech
He'll top the YCS with Kash Tear fusion goodstuff. I just know it.
Basically.
Love your videos man. Really like your theories and opinions. Helps me build my deck (dragon link) for the new formal
I like all the videos you have made so far. I know that may not give you too much direction but honestly you have just been doing an above average job with your content over all. Really appreciate the insight
I think this theory style video is fantastic
I’m glad Jesse admits his bias while trying to give advice. I just think it’s too early to tell like all things. People were giving Runick crap until they figured it out with sprights. Deck is still young
The deck is high risk high reward. That's what makes kashtira more balanced then what branded will be after cyberstorm access and tear full power.
But the deck is too oppressive going first. But if its R/R is like this the it was done on purpose
Branded is literally about to be a beast.
Your channel is what the yugioh yt scene was missing!
As a topic for a video I will click and watch such videos every time. Keep it up man
It also has weaknesses to iblee/ ra disciple and has no out to arrival ignister
Love this style of theorizing!!
Ycs vegas champion team deck profile ft jesse kotton on kash
Jessie!!! can you make a "meta"(or as close to) Ogdoadic deck deck profile?
what do you think of the crystal beast package? Can search a miracle which negates all the non-tribute stuff.
@@Autismo216 ah I see. My b
Sick videos! This type of deck analysis is really cool!
What are your opinions on Heavenly Zephyr - Miradora?
Thoughts on Ceasefire as a counter to book of eclipse?
Hey, what are you looking for in decks that are viable for post banlist meta. I want to hear your thoughts on what you look for and lookout for. Good content looking forward to more ❤
Finally someone with a realistic take on kashtira. The deck is strong in a vacuum, but give it some time and people will realize that it's a glass cannon.
The artwork is sick though.
Jesse with Patrick Hoban level metagame, telling people not to play Kash so nobody sides hate for Kash so he can win with Kash.
Facts!!!
Thanks Jesse love this sorta vid you're the goat with a clean name and good sportsmanship
I enjoy these types of videos! Very insightful hearing your take.
I think labrynth has a good kashtria matchup as we main lava golems and have so many disruptions with our traps especially going first setting 5 and passing it's a toss up going second we just have to hope we draw our outs if we get all zones looked if not, i think it's a pretty fair game.
was wondering why i wasn't subscribed to you... it's 'cause your channel is two weeks old 😂😂
this kinda video is great btw! love hearing the opinions of top players on the meta
Personally, I’d play mask of restrict going first g2 and I’d play swords of concealing light for the mirror. May not be the best but its good for my janky locals.
How is Kash playing around branded fusion with there engine? Since they don't have a negate for lingwurm
the second I saw no negates and no variety of defensive options in the endboard I knew the deck was trash, sold all my kashtira related cards the second they spiked in price because I knew people were going to eventually read them.
