What exactly is mesquite powder and where does it come from? Not from the mesquite wood you may be familiar with using for smoking BBQ foods, but from another part of this hardy desert plant species. We had the fortunate pleasure of harvesting mesquite in its prime habitat and got to know its "fruit" pods up close and personal!
Here in this video, we'll discuss some interesting facts about the mesquite tree and of course the 4 main nutritional assets of mesquite when used as a ground powder. Feel free to use the Video Chapter links below to jump to your preferred section of choice.

Thanks for the video! I live in Texas so I'm familiar with mesquite wood as a flavoring in barbecue/smoking meats, also the trees have been pointed out to me. I had never heard of mesquite flour before so this was a nice surprise! Tempted to try some. 🌱

I love these videos. I live in Texas and mesquite in many areas grows so well - it's good to know in Texas where it's hard to grow things that something here is suitable for supporting life!

Mesquite pods look similar to TAMARINDO. I grew up eating it in a form of a paste sweet and sour candy. It's good! A couple of weeks ago we went to a farmer's market because my mom wanted 4 lbs of nopales. They sold tunas aka prickly pears of all colors too. OMG you're all missing out if you haven't tried them. Anyhow, I'm going to look into mesquite pods/powder and see what my mom has to say about it. Thank you for uploading these videos. Take care.

Hi Suzy! I have sometimes seen the nopales in the market. What is your favorite way of preparing them? Can you simply pan fry them with a few seasonings?

I'm a bit late to the party but there is a South African company called MannaBrew that sell a roasted and ground Mesquite powder specifically for making "coffee", if anyone is interested.

That is a bummer about the insects, if you don't want to eat animal products then you'd have to inspect the pods to make sure none are left behind in there

Sounds like a carob tree and carob powder instead of chocolate powder. Mesquite, carob, and tamarind edible pods for nutrition.
