One of the best theories of what happened to Jenny is she “grew back” like the Doctor’s hand back in the Christmas special with Rose, especially because of the terraforming device rejuvenating the environment all around her. Just so tragic that it didn’t happen sooner, when her dad was still around.

  • @SKIP-yj3xp

Technically, she's not a Time Lord, having two hearts just makes her a Gallifreyan. She didn't regenerate, like a Time Lord does, her revival was caused by the terraforming gas. Also, she doesn't have the education in time travel, and it's workings, which is the best qualifier to be called a Time Lord. I always hoped they would bring her back.

I always hoped they would outright explain in NuWho, that The Doctor's more like a politician. One that barely passed his exams, no less. So he's a bit more relatable to me in that respect) So the people of Gallifrey are Gallifreyans, NOT all Time Lords. That's the sort of basic background that should be in the first few episodes of a show.

While I don't have any concrete source for it, it is said the weird ending where Jenny wakes up again was added by Moffats suggestion. I don't like it since it is to this day unexplained how she came back to life (though the planet rejuvination gas is the most plausible theory) and her living kinda undermines her sacrifice and what role she played in bringing peace for this planet.

I always have thought that its a bit like The Doctor in A Christmas Invasion where he loses his hand and can grow it back by using the regeneration energy he has left over. Jenny was just born (something literally referred to as her being 'generated') so I headcanon that, while it could still be partially due to the terraforming, it is also due to her being shot only a few hours after her body being formed and thus being able to heal the bullet wound without regenerating like The Doctor could grow his hand back.

    • @silverbrumbyfan
      @silverbrumbyfan 9 днів тому

Her sacrifice is still important because its how it affects the Doctor, he doesn't know she lives so he carries on thinking she died for him. I would give examples but I don't want to add spoilers. By the time she came back to life all the other soldiers had already left including the man who killed her, her coming back doesn't erase what he did, he still chose to kill and he has to live with that guilt

And so The Doctor's family tree gets a bit more complicated... both in-universe and out of it! This episode is actually how David Tennant met his future wife Georgia, who plays Jenny in this episode! If that wasn't strange enough, she's also the daughter of The 5th Doctor, Peter Davison, who you last saw in the Time Crash minisode! And since Peter Davison was Tennant's favourite Doctor growing up, he basically got to marry his hero's daughter!
Georgia Tennant, when asked in an interview about how it is to be the Doctor's Daughter, both in the show and out of it, she explained that she also went to school with the daughter of Colin Baker, the actor who played The 6th Doctor, so she was just under the impression that everyone's dad was The Doctor!
All of those strange circumstances aside, this is a fun episode! Great to see Martha back in action on an adventure in the Tardis. I love her compassion and her medical instinct as she instantly takes care of the injured Hath and begins to learn their side of the story. Though it's very sad when her new friend sacrifices himself to save her in return.
Jenny is a fun addition too - she's got the same spirit as The Doctor does at heart, even if she is a clone made for war. To clarify something - I don't think Jenny regenerated, more that the Source was able to revive her as it brought life back to the planet, though this may only have been possible because she's an clone/echo of a Time Lord, so it might not have worked were she human.
Donna is brilliant as usual, especially with how she figures out the truth behind a war with only her everyday skills, and how she immediately sticks up for Jenny to the Doctor.
The Hath are also quite a cool alien design. I'm not sure what other stories they could tell about them, but I wouldn't mind seeing them again.

The Doctor was travelling with his granddaughter when he first appeared, but we don't know anything about the Doctor's family beyond that. I think the show's creators made her his granddaughter because they didn't like the idea of an old guy travelling around the universe with an unrelated teenage girl, but I don't think there was much thought of the implications beyond that. When the show started, the Doctor was just a mysterious alien traveller with a time machine, no-one knew anything about where he came from or who he was or who his people were. And that stuff didn't start being filled in until (arguably) the end of season 2 when we first met another person from the same planet as the Doctor.

Jules: Is that really his daughter?
The fandom smirking: She's Peter Davison's, the 5th Doctor, daughter irl. Georgina and Tennant met on set and later got married.
We all love this story so much. We also love making jokes about her calling him Daddy and Tennant saying to his father in law "I'm twice the man you are" because Davison was 5 and Tennant is 10. We also love the story about the most surprising gift from a fan Davison ever got.
This episode is just... so damn good. I really wish Jenny could have gone with them. Also she didn't regenerate. The Source resurrected her. I would definitely watch a spinoff show about Jenny.
Also a bit of context: being Gallifreyan does not inherently make one a Timelord. So even though by the end he does recognize her as a legitimate daughter she wasn't going to regenerate and he knew this but just didn't want it to be true. So close and yet so damn far.
And I bet you thought I was excited for this episode just cause it had Martha in it lol. Definitely the cherry on top but the concept and Jenny are the real treat. And this isnt even my favorite of this series. It gets better.
We still got some bangers left to go before my favorite of this series. This series really is the most iconic.

The Doctor’s “I never would” statement was either a big fib, or he wasn’t thinking straight at the time. He’s a reluctant killer and doesn’t like guns, but he’s killed plenty of (usually hostile) intelligent aliens of various kinds. If you remember, this 10th Doctor killed the Sycorax leader in his first story, “The Christmas Invasion”-and seemed quite cheerful about it. He has a soft spot for humans and usually avoids killing them, but I think he must have killed some occasionally. As the man said, Death follows him around.

    • @coruscanta

Idk, I think it could definitely be taken as not just a general “I never would(kill),” but rather a “I never would(kill like this).” That could refer to tons of things like not executing an unarmed opponent, killing out of anger/revenge.
Whatever the specifics, feels like a consistent (or at least *more* truthful) meaning could be taken from the words and the context.

@@morrigannibairseach1211 The “foundational myth” idea may have something to it. But the Doctor saying “I never would” doesn’t ring true, whatever behaviour he’s talking about, because the Doctor’s behaviour has been written about by many different writers for more than 60 years and counting, and if he hasn’t done it in the past he’ll probably do it in the future. More generally, if anyone (especially an almost-immortal someone) tells you that he/she will never do something, you should be sceptical. People change over time, and unforeseeable circumstances arise.

@@jonathan.palfrey the point is that it doesn't particularly matter if it's true, only that the other characters present believe that it is, as well as witness his present refusal to kill even in his grief and anger. there is a wider thing of nuwho convincing audiences that the doctor is "against guns" (but completely in support of alternative means of causing death and serious injury), but despite the infamy of this scene, i never really thought it was particularly guilty of that, at least not on it's own. it just makes sense as an action, on the doctor's part.

Say Jules, did you know that Georgia Moffet, the actress who played Jenny... you know what, I have a feeling you're getting sick of hearing this by now. I'll assume that you already know. 😉
I will say though that if you want to see Georgia and David on-screen together, you should watch 'Staged', the show that David made with Michael Sheen over Zoom during lockdown. They play fictionalised versions of themselves and Georgia's in it a fair bit (I think she was a producer too).
There's also a brilliant comedic special from the fiftieth anniversary (you'll get there), written and directed by Peter Davison (her father, the Fifth Doctor). Both Georgia and David appear in it in some memorable scenes.
Also, Jenny has received a spin-off series of audio dramas called 'Jenny: The Doctor's Daughter', with Georgia reprising her role.
As for this episode, it's brilliant. I really appreciate how many episodes in Season Four are set on other planets, I think it has more than the previous three seasons. The twist about how long the war has been going on for is great, and I love that Donna is the only one who noticed the numbers.
There are a lot of great Doctor monologues and speeches that you'll get to hear over time, but I think "I never would" is such a simple, elegant and powerful line. It's definitely up there with Tennant's greatest moments.
Finally, in regards to the Doctor's family, when the show started in 1963, the Doctor was travelling with his granddaughter, Susan. Not much else has ever been revealed about his family for certain, though a lot of expanded media have explored different possibilities. It's known that he's been married, and in some continuities he has a brother, as well as a half-human great, great grandson named Alex.
We're really plowing through the season and it's only going to get better from here!

Ok I see you don’t need the fun ‘Doctor Who Dynasty’ facts mentioning 😂 but I’ve been so looking forward to you seeing this! But Georgia has done e some audio dramas of Jenny’s further adventures which is really cool

Haha 🤣 yes, I pinned the comment so it might help people not comment the same thing. It's not just the Doctor who is clever hahaha

@@julesreacts haha very wise! To be fair it’s one of the most loved things within the fandom, we adore them ❤️ thanks as ever for your wonderful reaction! Really enjoying being on this journey with you.
One point I haven’t seen though, is that yeah it’s the chemical mix that revives her, not regeneration, BUT there’s a very good chance that would only have worked for her.
Gallifreyan biology is an odd thing, and something that will be explored more later, but we saw when the Doctor explained the Master’s backstory to Martha and Jack, becoming a Timelord is a process, not pure biology. Jenny is Gallifreyan, but not a Time Lady. BUT, this does make her more receptive to healing, regenerative boosters, and generally better at processing and using stuff like that mist.
So yeah, there’s chance it wouldn’t have worked for a human or a hath, and her ‘parentage’ definitely has advantages

I've pinned a comment about the daughter/wife so we maybe can avoid a boat load of the same comments haha 😅 I found out a few weeks ago. It's a sweet story and great way to meet someone 💜
I swear, we are too similar. Are you me?! My car went in for its appointment last week! I needed a service, filter and a new battery. $550 🤣 Enjoy watching your money dwindle away today, Tom 😆
