- Ignoring the Rules - Landscape Photography - Happisburgh Lighthouse and Tidal Bell
This week myself and Steve head to Happisburgh for a day of long exposure and minimalist photography.
as well as using conventional compositional rules I break away from the rules and explain my reasons for doing so.

Great video Martin and some beautiful images.
Thanks so much Jon
Great vlog you should keep that hat on all year 🎉it suits you
Cheers mate, what hat? I'm one of Santa's elf's
Both you and Steve came away from that location with some lovely images Martin. Regards to you saying you'd like to do a bit more on the coast, I'd love to get you down to my favorite stretch of coast line. You'd have a ball down there and most likely come away with a dribbler or two. Thanks for sharing mate.
Thanks mate, I do think we need a group outing down south next year maybe even get a group meet arranged down that way and make a full weekend out of it.
There was something different about you this week mate I just couldn't put my finger on it ha. What a nice little location that is the easy coast for me is better than the west (in my opinion) I'm the same I have a K&F 10stop hardly use it unfortunately. Beautiful images as always mate 👌
Could say I had a bit of an elf-y glow, cheers mate
Hi Martin. I never knew that tidal bell existed!! I even camped in Happisburgh a couple of years ago unfortunately the light in the morning and evenings was poor so I never got any decent images of the lighthouse. I actually prefer the portrait versions of both the lighthouse and the tidal bell. I do love negative space but that's yet another thing that camera club judges hate 😂 they don't mind a little bit of space for subjects to move into but would definitely suggest cropping a 1/3rd off the sky 🤔. Congratulations on the 1k subs 🎉
Thanks so much Paul, I think the bell was only installed in July this year, so quite good to shoot something that isn't a honeypot (yet) 😂. I much prefer the portrait compositions from the morning I love negative space (even if it's too much for a judge 😂). Thanks again for the support and helping me roll past 1000 subs
@@MHLandscape that'll be why I didn't see it or know about it then. That's not bad then, I thought I'd totally missed it!! The North Norfolk coast is a great location all the way from Hunstanton (pronounced Hunstun) heading east there's Thornham, Burnham and Stiffkey (pronounced Stewkey 🤔) then Cley and onto Cromer and the zigzag groynes at Overstrand. When I based myself at Happisburgh (pronounced Hazeborough as you mentioned) I spent most of the week capturing the Windpumps scattered around the Broads but it was May so the waters were busy and unfortunately a few of the Windpumps were undergoing repairs. It's still an area I'll be visiting again in a couple of years
Sounds like you've covered loads of Norfolk, I've only scratched the surface so far, so much more to explore, always dreamed of a shot with golden light, mist and a windpump
