Very clear and concise and best of all, no rambling about your personal life. I have watched this twice now and feel very confident to make my first mini album. I also love that you recommend using what we have. Can’t wait to start and also to watch all your other videos. Thanks so much for a very professional tutorial.
Thank you very much Jill. I too like this style of tutorial and this is why I have always chosen this way to do my videos. So glad you are enjoying them too x
I'm going to give this a try with your pocket pages.I love the look of those and the cereal box cover seems quite doable. Thank you for sharing these projects in such a clear step by step fashion.I totally enjoy your tutorials and appreciate the time you put into them for us. Carol Young
Carol Young Thank you Carol for your message as it is always good that people are enjoying my channel. These video tutorials take time but so worth it when I get messages like this. Dawn x
I would never have thought of this and what a terriffic idea! One of the best tutorials I have seen! Not only is the information really really good but your presentation was so professional! Thank you!
I did it! I follow you step by step and it is beautiful. One boo boo and it tore a bit by the back crease. By accident I put glue by the crease. No problem, I love the cover! Thank you so much! I tried other ways to cover a cereal box or use chip board for journal and mini albums and I was not happy with the results, My cover look so professional!
Another excellent tutorial! I've been hesitant to try this after watching other videos. After seeing your very clear instructions I am confident now to finally make one. You are an amazing instructor. I have subscribed to your channel & will now watch how to bind the pages. Thanks again for another great idea!
This is great especial if you are not confident making chipboard covers and leaving the right spaces. If you watch some of my other videos I show you how to use a Stack the Deck and Hidden Hinge with this cover, something I have been doing for sometime now so you may want to catch up on some of my past videos. Enjoy! X
Awesome tutorial. This has help me try to figure out what to do with the TON of cereal boxes that I have stored in my home. I was running out of ideas for them and never thought of using them as an album... thanks for the inspiration. Be Blessed.
I love how you explain this tutorial!!! so easy to follow, I have made alot of your tutorials, you always amaze me of your profession, I truely love how you are to the point, and work with us! You are a blessing g to me, I'm in Washington, on the west coast. It has been great for me to give as gifts! I'm trying to get some things ready for Christmas, and you tutorials have really helped me! Hugs to you in all you do, I do not know how to take pictures to show you all I have done. or I would, I'm so proud of your tutorials, I talk highly of you! I do however have a friend and we get together and do YOUR tutorials, she don't have a tablet like I do, so when she comes over we have the best player day, WITH YOU! Hugs Dawn, and THANK YOU for your tutorials!!!
Thank you Cindy for taking the time to get in touch and message me, THIS makes what I do so worthwhile :) I would love to see some pics of your makes and you and your friend crafting, I know on my FB Page you can only upload one phot at a time but you can always email me your story and throughs along with your photos for me to share and that would be fabulous. my email is info@dawnsinspirations.com. Crafty hugs Dx
you are absolutely fabulous.....love your videos....i'm a VERY NEWBIE...i'm getting all sorts of stuff you show here and getting started right away....love you
I have inspired lots of Newbie and non crafters to have a go which is great and what I set out to do. you are not alone so enjoy there are more to come.Dx
Well, now that's a great idea!! I am new at this and was so bored when my laptop was in the shop I just couldn't wait to get to my scrapbooking so I used a Scoop Away (cat litter) box and cut out the pages. It's very sturdy but dense cardboard. Then I used Duck Tape and left a little space for the embellishments. Then I used all my prettiest stuff and then I realized the tape wasn't the best idea so now I have to go get more of my 'prettiest stuff' again to make a new book properly this time!!! lmao It also took me 2 days to decorate it!!!! I am so bad. I love it when I hear ..."Oh, you can decorate a book in a couple hours" lol Well, NOT ME!! I'm so worried about ruining it!!! o_O lol Thanks for the great idea using a box for the hinge!! Guess that's why they call it SCRAP booking!!! lol ;) Take care~
Sounds like you are having fun crafting and like me use things to hand, I don't like to throw things away, i always think I can use them. Great you love embellishing you projects too, that is the fun bit and if you take longer it does not matter I think you are being more creative. I love to hear from my subscrbers and their stories so thank you for tking the time to message me. Keep on crafting. Dx
Dawns Inspirations Hi there! You are right about the fact that I don't like to throw something away that is perfectly good.....for something or other! lol I went and checked the cupboards and I found quite a few boxes that would be perfect!! Thanks so much for your wonderfully helpful idea! Have a great day~ ;)
Wonderful tutorial! I've often thought that cereal boxes would make great covers but wasn't quite sure how to go about it - thanks so much for sharing! I'm really looking forward to watching more of your video's :)
Thanks Dawn, lovely directions and such a simple way to make the binding. You don't have any problem with the boxes cracking (weakening) in spots after they are assembled? Patti
Hi patti, no so far no problems, I find by adding the paper it makes it more sturdy and thats using one layer of cereal box. Also by score you papers lightly on both sides this helps your papers not to crack. Happy Holidyas to you and your family. Dx
Good afternoon from South Gate California. Great tutorial very clear and easy to follow. I just subscribed to your channel. This is going to be my first weekend project. The only thing since i dont have a camera to record i dont up load videos. Thank you for sharing your talent.
Hi Dawn, I am making 3 Christmas journals using this tutorial as a guide. I love my covers. Should I use a sealer on the cover cardstock paper? I also found on one of the 3 journal covers the edges a one inch crack. Could i use the distress ink to cover it?
+Jazzy268 I do not seal mine as I like the paper look and feel. If you have a crack I use a little of the Collall All Purpose Glue on my finger and run it over the crack this just stops it going any further. Then Yes you could use distress ink to cover if you wish. The journals sound like great Christmas Gifts! x
My gosh you are so professional and just brilliant! Bless your heart for sharing...pressed that subbie button so I don't miss anything...((()))...Laura...
Welcome Laura, so glad you have joined me. There are lots of video tutorials for you to watch and craft along with me to make beautiful projects. Have you been scrapbook long or are you a newbie. Dawn
OMG Dawn!!! I use cereal boxes all the time and i NEVER thought of using the natural spine it has..LOL LOL LOL tooooo funny!!! Thanks for showing me that, from now on when i go shopping I'll check out the boxes for the size of albums I'm planning on making!!! LOL
A+ Excellent training video! You didn't rush through it and your speech was not so fast that I had to rewind. I'll be sure to use "your" video when I make a mini scrapbook album. :0)
hello there. I really like your video. It has given me a brilliant idea for my project in university, however, I was inquisitive as to how you stuck your pages in the spine.
Sweta Patel So glad you like this idea, quick and easy to do. Treat it like any other mini album cover and you can go ahead and use any hinge system, my 2 favourites are The Hidden Hinge and Stack the Deck, both of which you can see being used in most of my videos, just check out the mini album videos. Enjoy! Dawn x
Very helpful video :) Just yesterday I saw a similar box in my cupboard and I though to make it into a cover just like that.Newbie here so it was a fail, but now I see where I went wrong:) When would you recommend to attach the hinge? Oh, and do you think it will hold an elastic/ ribbon type of closure (the one where you thread the pages? Thank you for your great tutorials, much appreciated. xx
So glad you are finding them useful Victoria. I have also done a video tutorial on hinges for this album cover, ua-cam.com/video/CNaKsiwB3-s/v-deo.html Enjoy! Dx
This is so stinken beautiful and looks easy. I have lots of cereal boxes that I have saved and wasn't sure what to do with them. Could you also post the name of your clear glue and can it be bought in the U.S.? Love Love your videos.
Yes Debra it is a great idea and so simple really. The glue I use is Collall All Purpose Glue, it is made in the UK and you can buy it on the internet and pay shipping. I have been in touch with the UK Supplier and there are 2 big Trade shows at the begining of 2014 and fingers crossed you will be able to get it in the US and Canada from Feb. Hope that helps? Dx
I tried this a few months ago. It totally appealed to my frugal and enviro self. Problem: the material bends too easily, ruining the cover treatment. I made a couple beautiful books. One completely contracted and bent despite putting 2 coats of Gesso and the other bent and cracked. I've gone back to chip board (mounting board) for mini books, but will continue to make gift boxes out of cereal boxes.
Tanya Juli I use Collall All Purpose Glue from Crafters Companion and then you don't get the bending problem. You can alway use the same method and add extra cereal box/cardboard just to the front and back cover and spine but not on the joints, this may help. Dawn x
This happen to me to and what I done is I covered the album cover with durecel like what kids use to cover there books I did this on both sides and just scored the lines so it would bend so far hasn't broken haha however using two boxes and then book cover would make it extra strong :)
Yes both of those glue would work just as well I am sure. I have used the Collall on even the thinest paper and you dont get any bubbling up and that is why i use it. x
This was a great tutorial. I want to make a Disney Themed one for my friend who I went to Disneyland with a couple of years ago. Thanks for this video it was excellent.
I have used a couple, the hidden hinge, stack the deck and a back to back hinge system. I have done some tutorials using the cover idea but each time I try to show a different hinge. Check my tutorials and you can also see how they work and how to attach the hinge to the cover.
Crafters Companion are the UK supplies but lots of others also sell it online. I always go for one with the low postage or postage free. Hope this helps?
If you watch my tutorials on "folded pocket page minis" there is also a video on hinges however, you can use this idea for any album. See my channel for other scrapbook minis. Dx
I just have to say I love the accent and I love the video! :) But if it weren't for the accent, I would have skipled the video lol. Thanks for the video :)
Do you mean how do you add pages? If so you can then go ahead and use any hinge system, Stack the deck, hinden hinge etc.... You can view my Folded pocket page mini album to see how to make an album from start to finish using this cover.
Just remember that a cereal boxes will be full of acidic lignen so you'll need to make sure that you completely coat it before you add your papers. Matboard or bookboard that are acid free won't.
Belinda Short Yes, I am aware they are no acid free however, these days we all tend to copy our photos and keep the orginals on computers. Also this method is great fro newbie crafters to give them the confidence to make a mini book.

I have to come here to start my cereal box album hehe. Thanks Dawn.
Yes this is so quick and easy you will use it for many projects. Dx

Tanya Juli You may want to try actual book board. its easier to cut and its acid free.
Love the video...my kids say that I 'm a hoarder but I love card making and scrapbook . Can I use Tacky glue or Cosmic glue x
It is so quick and easy and something you will time after time. Have you seen the folded pocked page album as this is made using this method? Dx
I scrolled and checked alternate Web site but could not find name of supplies (glue) you used.
Try www.crafterscompanion.co.uk www.crafterscompanion.co.uk/brands/collall.html
Or www.crafterscompanion.com
www.crafterscompanion.com/search.asp?SearchVal=All&cat1=All&keyword=Collall&search=
love this..daft question but what system did you use inside x
I have used a couple, the hidden hinge, stack the deck and a back to back hinge system. I have done some tutorials using the cover idea but each time I try to show a different hinge. Check my tutorials and you can also see how they work and how to attach the hinge to the cover.
Thank you Dawn for sharing this brilliant idea :)
I like to share ideas and inspire fellow crafters. Have you seen the quick Tips sections on my website.
Merry Christmas. Dx
I love your video. Thank you very much!!!!!
you mentioned PVA; is that similar to our Modge Podge or more like gesso?
PVA is a wet glue however, my wet glue of choice is Collall All Purpose Glue.
Where did you get the nice paper?
Lan Ngai I am not sure now, it has been in my crafty stash for some time. sorry I cant help you out. Dawn
Thank you for the quick response!
You are welcome, quick idea for a scrapbook album cover. are you going to give it ago?
Love this tutorial. Great idea. TFS
Saves so much time you will use this idea a lot. D
how do you get your pages in then without ruining your pretty cover?
+Erinne Kennedy-Dock I find the Stack the Deck Hinge method works best.
Awesome idea . Thanks for sharing
Yes it is so simple it's silly..... But great time saver. Dx
neat idea
fab idea, must try it out, just looked up that glue you used and it is pretty expensive ~~ :)
Yes it is a great idea, the glue is about £3 for a 100ml bottle and it is really good!! So I think it is money well spent.
£3 ~~ I'm looking at it on Amazon and it's £11 (100ml), where did you buy yours because I don't mind paying £3? :)
Crafters Companion are the UK supplies but lots of others also sell it online. I always go for one with the low postage or postage free. Hope this helps?
just checked it out elsewhere, Amazon are normally the cheapest but at £11~~wow, that's expensive! I'm looking on Ebay & CC, thanks
Hi Dawn. How do you attach the pages in the mini scrapbook?

How did you make the pages in place in the album?
Just use any of my video tutorials making mini albums as these covers are a great quick method rather than chipboard on card stock.

Do you mean how do you add pages? If so you can then go ahead and use any hinge system, Stack the deck, hinden hinge etc.... You can view my Folded pocket page mini album to see how to make an album from start to finish using this cover.
Yep - I've been doing this too ... saves so much money!! Good info
Great minds Kay and always good to share money saving tips. Happy Holidays. Dx
what kind of glue do u use?
I use "Collall All Purpose Glue" and it is available from Crafters Companion UK & .Com Online if your craft store does not stock it.
Ok thaks
Just remember that a cereal boxes will be full of acidic lignen so you'll need to make sure that you completely coat it before you add your papers. Matboard or bookboard that are acid free won't.
Belinda Short Yes, I am aware they are no acid free however, these days we all tend to copy our photos and keep the orginals on computers. Also this method is great fro newbie crafters to give them the confidence to make a mini book.
With what do you coat it
