It is a makar sankranti dish of bengalis (called poush pithe) and made with sweet fillings of coconut, jaggery and nuts. Steamed or boiled in milk also. My mom makes it with cabbage and paneer filling also which is a namkeen version. Never knew biharis also make it.

Since when did pithe become a Bihari dish ? We can always get inspired and try to make a dish by adding or taking away a few ingredients. Pithe , Puli, Payesh is made during the religious festival of Nabanna , to celebrate the arrival of new harvest in the winter months of Agrhan and Pous . All the delicacies are offered to God ,thanking for the bounty
Not sure about the origin of the dish.But for sure it is a very common dish in the households of Bihar .i have grown up relishing it..and it surely is a Bihari dish and that does not mean other places can't have it..relish it .Have as much as you can with lots of love in your heart.Regards Bihar
Pitha or steamed rice dumpling is made in all rice growing states of India . In the eastern states it's called pitha or pithe .In Maharashtra and South India it's called modak or Poli . India is truly United in its diversities.

Bihar me ise Amarpitha bhi kaha jata hai. Jab dhan ki nayi phasal aati hai , phir naye chawal ka pitha banaya jata hai jo bahut hi swadist hota hai.
