I wasn't going down the "tin foil hat" guys. I am just logical. When you look into things being able to cross barriers to other species, then you look for those things and test those against that barrier. As we are a lousy species in doing our job properly (keeping away the fact that we are corruptible and easily influenced or coerced), it's inevitable that mistakes appear, and in this cases the consequences would be quite dramatic. Ummm, just for clarification, research happens in all industries worldwide and has always existed. Research requires the questioning of hypothesis and testing for viability - whether its a new saftey feature for a car, a different way to have surgery thats less invasive or a better way to recycle. This requires firesight and planning - just like planning fir natural disasters. That doesn't mean that no one is working on the day to day problems. We have to do both. Societies across the world for centuries have always done both. Im not sure who started this rhetoric that planning and research and development is bad but please don't believe it. Example, if you're house is flooding everywhere, do you want someone who never trained as a plumber to come in and try to fix it or do you want to have someone who was trained and has spent at least a few years dealing with similar problems to fix your home? Or if theres a storm or hurricane coming do you want to have your local grocery store or hardware store prepared to have the supplies that your family needs to protect yourself or do you want to "wing it"? We need to be reasonable. Life requires planning.
