Whew, I finally finished Dracula. It put me in such a slump that it had to win my October book of the month because it was the only book I read, even though I really didn't like it at all. I gave it like 2 stars 😅

I read Dracula last month too. Definitely glad that I did and I enjoyed it, but you're right that it's really slow. I told my wife those 360 pages felt more like 800

    • @ravenbellebooks5665
      @ravenbellebooks5665 26 днів тому +1

@emosongsandreadalongs It really did! I wanted to love it so much. It was just too repetitive for me, but the writing style just seems so dramatic that, while normal for that time, it reads like parody now. I can definitely understand why it's a classic, though!
I've taken to dramatically calling a coworker "Friend John," which has admittedly been hilarious!

I read 6 books in October, and my book of the month is Nothing Compares 2 U by Toure. So, Prince has been my favorite musician since I was a kid, and I thought I knew everything there was to know about in, at least in a public sense. This book presented his life in a different light. It was very informative, very poignant, and very intimate. And very sad. And thing that stood out the most from reading this book is how much his parents' decisions when he was a kid affected him through the entirety of his life. I knew of the decisions they made, but not how much it affected him. I was floored.

My book of the month is Dungeon Crawler Carl. It was just a lot of fun and doesn’t take itself too seriously which is kind of where I’m at after reading Lightbringer this year. Kind of like after Wheel of Time I just needed a decompression phase. The New Jason Pargin book is pretty good too.

Mike, I had my biggest reading month in YEARS, this past month.
The Blade Itself: FINISHED! Incredible. "Say one thing for Mike Book-Reviews, say he recommends a good book."
The Next Million Years: FINISHED! "This book shows how the people at 'the top' really think, and how we are already well under way in their plans." (Also, the stuff from the previous book, above, about "Civilization" PERFECTLY matches what Darwin's grandson says, here.)
The Hustler: FINISHED! The art of f*cking WINNING. I have never hated a main character more, whom I've loved. And I read The Blade Itself.
The Art of Living: GREAT. The Sermon on the Mount, minus any Christian trappings, for better and worse.
The Unexpected Exorcist: Substack book, hell of a good time.
The ABC of Childhood Tragedy: Vol. 1: Jordan Peterson at a level of Brutal, I've never seen.
Thank you, for The Blade Itself.

    October
    1. Of Blood and Fire by Ryan Cahill
    2. The Woman in White by: Wilkie Collins
    3. The SpellBook of Katrina Van Tassel by Alyssa Palombo
    4. Once and Future Witches by Alix E. Harrow
    5. The Tall Tale Heart by Edgar Allan Poe
    6. The Omen by David Seltzer
    7. John Adams by David McCullough
I had a lot of great reads for October, but I can't decide which one is my favorite. The only one I was slightly disappointed with was The Spellbook of Katrina Van Tassel, but even then I didn't hate it.
