To have super controlled turning, you could experiment with a compass on a servo controlling your turning gyros. Turning the compass one way would twist you the other way and keep you straight when you don't turn it.
hi scrapman, i have a suggestion that can perhapskis improve your creation. the creation you have now which is four blocks wide and 3 blocks tall which should have an area of 12, however, since it has more of an irregular shape than a rectangle, I'm going to split it into two, with the bottom part being a 4x2 which gives us an area of 8 and the top part being a 1x2 with an area of 2. Adding those two together gives us an area of 10. I suggest that you should rotate your out board boat engines and pontoons from lying horizontally to lying vertically, doing this gives us a width of 2 blocks ( visually it would look like 2 blocks since flat connectors are flat and don't have any aerodynamics) and a height of 4 blocks which gives us an area of 8, thus reducing your aerodynamic profile by 2.i get that the creation might want to tip upwards but i think the gyros would stop it from doing that. Anyway that's all i have to say, i love your content i think that your an amazing guy and i hope u see this comment and make a video on it too since it'd be pretty interesting to test out😁. thanks!
I would love to see a bionic league run. Also I second the other comments, a vertical rudder that does not turn in the center may counterintuitively massively increase your turning. You'd effectively be adding a vertical wing in the center of gravity of your craft, allowing it to loose a lot less speed in sharp turns. The more energy you can retain turning, the less energy you need in engines to put back in after the turn.
10:15 Perhapskis you were trying to say "The difference between myself and first place is slightly less than that of half my time", or rather "I need to beat the race almost twice as fast as I did"
25:08 That arc across half of the island shows you how fast these "boats" are actually going. 500mph = 800km/h. That's closer to the real world land speed record than the one on water.
perhapskis you could move the seat to the back, so that when you turn the back swings out and brings the seat with it and that can hit the checkpoint even if the front cuts the corner
Possible idea for helping go straight when ya aren't turning: Perhapskis ya can mount a Vertical Stabilizer like a Tailfin on the very back on a Hinge set to 90 degrees and controlled by a Logic Block so it's up by default but when A or D is being held down to turn the Fin is flipped 90 degrees backward to point behind the Boat instead so the Tailfin is folded outta the way of the Turning Aerodynamics. When folded behind the Boat it should fit into a slit that prevents the Tailfin from being an Aerodynamics Contributor till ya are going straight again so it unfolds back out to be deployed only during straight travel to fight boat attempts to wiggle around like a Snake while ya are needing a straight trajectory. Crazy like a Fox, or just crazy?
If you flip your outboards vertically you will have less air resistance and it will increase speed and acceleration. Use adjustable buoyancy blocks to adjust how low you sit in the water and it will also increase speed.
6:08 As far as I know the gyros uses free moments which means their place doesn't matter like with Forces. It should work the same even if its farther from the center of mass.
You should recreate old aircrafts that never made it into the real world. Like you did 2 years ago. I really enjoyed them and would love to see them again.
Hi Scrapman! I've been watching your vids for years, and I've really enjoyed them. I noticed that you tend to place your gyros at the center of mass of your vehicles. I don't know if it's like this in Trailmakers, but if I remember correctly the placement of pure moments/force couples (like the ones gyros provide) doesn't matter. It should always turn around the center of mass. You can Google "force couples" for more. I'm sorry if I'm being the "um, acktshually" guy, but I thought it might help you build cool stuff in the future. And again, maybe the game works differently. Keep up the good work!
I'd love to see you revisit drift cars now the gyros and quantum rudders have been added, I've made some very controllable drift cars Would love to see a drift challenge between you and some of the other guys too
It looks like the checkpoints are registered at the location of the seat. So if you move the seat to the back you might be able to cut corners tighter because of the moved seat.
Around 747mph is the sound barrier. It's got a few decimals and variants on humidity and altitude and all that, but I believe in this game, that's the speed you need for the boom. Honestly, I think variable vector thrust would have been better for the archipelago race. Turning your whole craft is needed, but as you're turning, the thrust needs to be applied efficiently. Having it all sapped away as you turn is standard, but if you had some of the motors on servos and had them point in the direction of the turn to turn the craft faster and also maintain some speed in the turn, it might help.
Ive found one small tailfin sticking down into the water like a tiny keel can help you keep more speed while turning as it gives some sideways resistance
Maybe first place built their vehicle on the edge of the build area and had a small piece disconnected from their vehicle that starts in the start zone?
Video idea, falcon and mouse. One or more players are in a car and then there is a falcon. The falcon is a plane with a anchor block on the end of a detachable block. It's the falcons job to pick up the car and drop them either into water or off the side of the map to win. Both teams can repair or respawn unlimited times. After a few rounds you can spice it up by adding a time limit for the mouse to win
You could also reduce the width of your boat to 2 by using the underwater propellers in a straight line. This would save you aerodynamic points at the front and rear.
hey scrap just a quick tip you don't have to have your move gyros at you center of mass they are made to spin at the center of mass no matter here there at, if you have gyros with no controls it adds a damping to whatever axis its on hope you see this you need it.
Scrapman, after all this research I've done i have seen that there was no possible way to connect the gyro stabilizers to the engines or buoyancy block so either you're having, using a glitch, or straight up lying to us.
You should redo all the races, I really enjoy seeing all the little tricks you learn. But especially the land races, because there are tricks you can do like using upside-down gimbal jets to get mad downforce well beyond what spoilers will give you that'll give you a real advantage.
Seeing the front and rear steering attempt in this, I immediately wondered what moving those joints deeper into the vehicle would do. If the steering sections were the front and rear thirds of the boat, so that the power was split between segments, would the maneuverability be improved?
Sometimes it is faster to release or break for a corner to get a tighter line it might be helpful for time trial where the marginal gains are important

Hey scrapman been watching a lot of your racing videos recently, and i think you should consider looking into apexes and racing lines for racing. I don't know how aerodynamics compare from in air to water. So if they are not as affective in the water, you'd make your overall aerodynamic profile better
Could the 1st place guy have a block in the start zone connected to his boat (maybe with the power coupling blocks) that he disconnects right when the race starts?
Being very open here, this first place in the SuperSonic League is what we call Cheatbot, as I can't imagine a long creation or going from complexity to a measly block being on the starting line, so we can say that apart from the flyers, Scrapman is well above the top5 well before he realize
How would a quantum rudder instead of vertical drag and gyro for steering work? I know that the devs said that it was different, but is it a useful different?
Try putting your seat at the back of your boat instead of the front. At 15:38, your seat didn’t make it through the ring but the rest of your boat did.
I think maybe the leaderboards is reset quite often, probably every time there is an update adding or changing parts. Which makes sense, because if the previous record was set by some glitch that is now fixed it would be impossible to break. I'm pretty sure I've gotten top 5 positions in races that previously was impossible to even get close to top 100 without much effort some times; and in a few of the bionic or go-cart league races I'm fairly certain there used to be way more entries than it was the last time i tried. The go cart league in the canal race had just a few dozen entries and getting within top 10 was pretty easy (once I managed to balance my insane bionic flapping paddles design on top of one single hoverpad, of course) last time I tried. I'm still wondering how the one guy managed to get a ranking on the bionic league for the canal race... how the heck did he manage to get past the "you're not hovering" requirement without a hover pad? Maybe it's a joke entry by the devs?
I don't really care much if it's reset now and then. While it's fun to occasionally have 2nd place in some races; I mainly use the leaderboards to compete against myself anyway and the leaderboard doesn't matter much. In fact I think it's better to have it reset because then at least the top spot won't forever be dominated by one single impossible glitch run unless that person is regularly re-doing it.
i imagine the guy in first has a single block that is very far away but still "part of the build" and so he is able to start the race with that block in the starting area and the actual boat is all the way out in front.
You don't need high top speed, you just need high acceleration and sharp turning radius. Slowing down for every turn so you don't go wide will need that acceleration to gain the speed back.
UNDERWATER PROP IS BETTER, the reason it seems about the same or worse is because you used the same core design, I was able to break the sound barrier with 1 underwater prop glitchless. The reason it doesn't seem better is mainly just that you left it just as wide as before, remember aerodynamics is very very important in Trailmakers.
Haven't finished watching yet so maybe you address this - but your acceleration is the main thing that could be theoretically improved. You have a great top speed but you don't get near it, cause it takes too long to speed up from 0.
weight!!! although thrust is very important for a vehicle with no lateral grip and in ALL races a all weight is a super important factor i know it is ugly and difficult but the Rounded Corner Inverted 1x2 and the wedge corners should be making up any space filler and random connective blocks also try removing some floats as most were unnecessary
21:40 when you were testing the engines, you accidentally checked 2 propellers and 2 outboard engines, instead of 4 and 2. Probably mixed the powers up
He was determining the water thrust per power core, so he used two propellers versus one functional outboard and one disabled outboard to maintain center of mass
Wouls it be possible to make a creation the same size an shape as an entire race using pistons or maybne tractor beans and then only move the seat within the creating at super sonic speeds ?
19:35 you're too worried about top speed. Yes, adding on the tail rudder dropped your top speed to

Being very open here, this first place in the SuperSonic League is what we call Cheatbot, as I can't imagine a long creation or going from complexity to a measly block being on the starting line, so we can say that apart from the flyers, Scrapman is well above the top5 well before he realize
I would recommend changing the camera so it is the one more directly tied to your movement. That way you know exactly how far you have turned.
Day 6 of asking scrapman to do an evolution race with his friends in the race island
The fact that he got top 100 first try with the older creation AND THEN got top 30 first try with the new one is kinda hilarious
How would a quantum rudder instead of vertical drag and gyro for steering work? I know that the devs said that it was different, but is it a useful different?
I think the first one has detachable blocks connected to a seat and in the start he releases them and the game thinks he's still on the starting line
No sorry thats not possible but what about logic gates and a camera block
detachable blocks are for the no drag glitch
Nice to see JC, "in the world"
i imagine the guy in first has a single block that is very far away but still "part of the build" and so he is able to start the race with that block in the starting area and the actual boat is all the way out in front.
I think first place has a long bar of flat connectors that reach to the start area. Then they disconnect when the race starts.
you can widen you craft just a bit using some runners so it's easier to get the rings and you don't have to turn as much
14:04 You can also notice that there is no 10th place either. The leaderboard must’ve glitched and forgot to move other players’ spots.
Doing the hovercraft race again would be interesting to see now that there are gyros.
@@tylerphuoc2653 didnt know it was disabled, thanks!
Day 195 of asking scrapman to test how fast emp is in trailmakers
Wouls it be possible to make a creation the same size an shape as an entire race using pistons or maybne tractor beans and then only move the seat within the creating at super sonic speeds ?
or maybe make some kinda launching creation that can launch other creations to get a better start
2:40 Jeremy Clarkson appearance
Scrappy, what you were trying to say was a little slower than half your time. 😂 Well understood the word confusion though
please do more hide and seek it was really fun
have to comment since my name was on there for a sec. Well done man
did you turn off seat controllls as it looked like you had a slight down tilt
You should try bionic league races, found them the be really fun 👌
you have two turning gyros in the center of your boat use one for turning one for stabilizing it should help you go straight
Do the canal hover track, it’s a hard track with me as #1 I used glitches yes, but so does everyone in top 5
First probably had a detachable piece that went all the way to the start square that he'd break off as soon as the race started
15:42 what is this song?
Let's go 7 min gang
Try programming a vehicle with logic to complete a race on its own, and see how high up the leaderboard you can get
Fun fact: every major update resets the racing leaderboard.
