My son plays football at JSU. Of course we are disappointed that coach prime is leaving, but we should thank him for everything he has done for not only the football team but the school. He made sure the team was taking care of. My son had 3 meals a day from what the team provided. When the water issues happened, I wanted him to come home, but coach prime made sure those young men was taken care of by putting them up in a hotel. Coach prime went above and beyond what a coach would do for his team. What is so crazy is the so called fans are more mad than the players are. My son said the team is happy for him and the opportunity he has and of course they would want him to stay, but these young men know this is part of life. From this mother of a JSU freshman football player. Keep being great coach prime and thank you for everything you have done for my son and the other players on that team.

I get that but he was the only one God gave that gift too. It's not his fault he does not even realize the bigger picture. Prime is about that bag and himself and family and helping others. However, he could have changed football across the world never mind an HBCU it was bigger than that. This man could have taken over football as we know it and crumble these PWIs but nope, we do what Willie Lynch taught us but it's not our fault. We're almost afraid to get Black Wall Streeted again. Smh our people will never trust one another. Also our kids will never trust a man of his stature again. It was time to go to a new HBCU, his work was done there. He does not realize he was capable of building an entire African American Football League. Deion is the man and that's all facts and his heart is big but he just did not understand the gift God gave him. There will be no more Coach Prime he was a 1 of a kind! I envision he would build at least 3 to 4 HBCU to make them competitive leaving behind a coach that was a former NFL player that shared Deions values. Then off to the next HBCU. 10 years from now D1 Football would not look the same and Colorado and all them PWIs knew it. We was on to something but it slipped out of our hands for 5 Milly a year!

I am a native Mississippian now living in Texas. My ex husband went to JSU back in 2002. It was awful. Ok. It seems to me that people who are mad have never lived in Jackson or have been a migrant from Jackson.
I went to JSU from Texas in 2016. The campus is nice and that’s it. Hard stop. The corruption of the city, let alone the school is sickening. When I heard about Deion getting robbed last game I was not shocked at all.
My kids father is from Jackson, Clinton to be exact. When I told him I wasn’t raising my kids there he didn’t understand until we moved to Dallas in 2017. Now he hates to go back. It literally makes him sick how destitute it is in comparison to other places in the south.
Last time we went in 2018 we had popped a tire due to a pothole on Highway 80 going into Clinton. I can go on about why I will never set foot in Jackson again.

I have taught at Morehouse and two local HBCUs; my cousin attended one in Texas...it's the same story everywhere. They run these schools like a black church where unqualified people want to be on the finance committee. You see how messed up the church leadership is with all of their corruption, likewise with HBCUs. I have a question for all of you complaining about Deion. Jay Hopson(a white man)was the head coach of Alcorn state for three years from 2012-2015, and won 3 SWAC titles. He took the program to heights it had never experienced, and made them arguably one of the greatest programs in SWAC HISTORY, and his mark there is still being felt, as Alcorn is currently the winningest HBCU football program in the United States right now since 2012, with the team now being coached by Fred McNair. He left Alcorn to go coach Hattisburgh Southern Miss, which was a winless FBS D-1, and nobody said anything. In fact, the people of Alcorn LOVE coach Hopson, and rightfully so, he was a great coach and a greater person, and left a lasting impact on that program and those that he coached. So by all your logic, did Hopson (again, a white guy) “use black culture”? Did he not fufill his promise and bring back a once dead program and sowed seeds that made it long lasting power house, just as Coach Prime did?

At first, I thought he was wrong, but as I hear more of the story--along with this video, I'm happy for him and his new venture. My hope (and it is a hope) is that the coaches remaining at Jackson State can maintain the standards that Prime has set.
And yes, I am all too familiar with HBCU's--being an alumna of one myself. They are seriously underfunded and misappropriation of funds is indeed a problem. I am guilty of not giving back, and while I don't have much, am seriously considering giving what I can to my alma mater (which is Lincoln University in PA BTW).
Excellent analysis sis. Keep it up!

Now he is challenging himself to take a power 5 program that was 1 - 11 last year and hasn’t been relevant in over 2 decades and turn that program around. The ultimate goal, a National Championship at the highest level of college football. Anyone that says they would jump at that opportunity is lying or just plain lazy and lack drive to be better. It’s really sad to see people react the way they are and attacking Coach Primes character like that. Her assistant, Toyelle Wilson, left and went on to win a national championship as an Assistant Coach to Kim Mulkey and over BG at Baylor. I was in my feeling too until Coach Wilson asked the question, (paraphrased) "Shouldn't I be able to grow?!" Coach Prime has done it all, except as a Power 5 head coach. I hope he shines and HBCU's take the lessons learned from what he's exposed and move forward. Honestly, unlike the Kentucky HBCU President, Dr. Ruth Simmons is a perfect example of leveraging your connections to fund a state school, being blocked of it's rightful funding from the State of Texas, (Google the story). Our alumni and administrations really need to step up for our programs to thrive. I'll leave with this, as of now, Colorado has no money to pay Coach Prime, but the athletic director was confident their boosters will cover it! How confident can HBCU athletic directors be in their boosters to say something similar on live TV? If you don't want HBCU's to be doormats for collegiate coaches, you have to pay you people.
