Freeman paid tribute to his old coach Jim Tressel because that was a straight up 00s Buckeyes style beat down with running, defense, and special teams.
Indeed, that was a great example of Tressel-ball. People disremember the philosophy in total, and only remember the conservative running plays. In actuality, Tressel's teams were built on a foundation of very physical rushing, stifling defense, and game changing special teams play. Upon that foundation he actually ran a variable offense molded around the talent he recruited, including spread formations and 1st down deep shots. But always built on that foundation. ND in this game executed Tresselball at its best, including the offensive game-plan that if they can't stop the running game than why open it up?
I know the stadium isn't as loud as an SEC stadium but the NBC broadcast does a really poor job of conveying how loud it is. It is easy to tell on ABC, ESPN, and CBS when the crowd is loud but there are moments of this game when it was deafening in person that you can't even tell from this broadcast.
The interview of the young man at the end shows the clear difference between how some universities still hold academics a priority and others don't. Notre Dame still requires a level of academics to attend their university. Unfortunately, others don't and you can tell once they start speaking into the microphone. They are there to win football games and bring money to the school, they can barely put a sentence together. They use incorrect tenses and literally sound like a four year old. "We be on all night and y'all can't stop what we be bringin', ain't no one better than us" 😃
I was born in South Bend and moved to Myrtle Beach SC. and Dabo has a TV show and runs his mouth a few times now about how he does think there is anything special about ND and he doesn't understand why they get National fans. He learned that day what is special about the Fighting Irish and he will again this year in Death Valley
There 4and 11 against ranked teams in the last 10 years When you play the SEC. YOU WILL GET BEAT BAD IF YOU'RE NOT READY. LIKE ALABAMA DID TO N.D. 31 to 14. In 1/1/21.
10:45 I remember watching this live and yelling "Holding 80 Offense" as the play is developing. When they called it people asked me how I saw that. Well whenever a receiver comes off a block and holds his hands up? Guaranteed that receiver knows he just held illegally. Every. Single. Time.
There are those who think Rees did a good job at Notre Dame with some areas he definitely needs to improve. I personally think he's mediocre at best and he flat out stinks at recruiting and developing QB's It's ok to not be that good at getting the best QB's out of high school as long as you can develop an above average QB into a top NFL draft pick consistently. Rees has never made any QB he's had better. He only succeeded as a play caller when he had the decided talent advantage. Fortunately for Alabama most weeks will see them with a decided talent advantage so the real test will be the weeks where the talent is close or equal. If Saban has someone else actually coach and develop the QB room then Rees won't really be exposed until they play teams that are on the same level as Alabama is which means only 2 or 3 times a year.
@coachhumph5524 That is kind of what I thought. I'm hoping Saban and the staff around him makes him better. He will have some of the best talent to work with. Bill O'Brian was a horrible offense coordinator and was hands off with the qbs so as long as we didn't get someone worse maybe it won't be as bad as we fear lol
@@briangreen256 Tyler Buchner has been inconsistent and I wanted him to be good so much but his injury last year kept him off the field. Great win for Notre Dame! Let's keep the momentum going! To be fair, Freeman had every right to be upset about that call. It was close but wasn't considered targeting. However, the announcers and the expert brought in all confirmed it should have been a roughing the passer call for sure. They also confirmed some other really bad calls, including a couple pass interference calls, they called on Notre Dame, basically gift wrapping a scoring drive for Clemson. Once again, there were some horrible calls against Notre Dame.
