Once again, just so good - that Strat sound at the beginning - so accurate, so 80s, so Spandau, so New Romantic - then the synth sound, the divine sax ... and the sheer talent and musicianship of everyone in that studio. And even Darren's voice has a hint of the Tony Hadley about it, which only goes to show what a versatile singer he is.

@@amandopiano4291 The comment 'better than the original' is just ridiculous. The song was written and performed by Spandau Ballet 40 years ago. Technology has moved on, almost everything has moved on. The song was uniquely theirs, they wrote it, crafted it, arranged it and recorded it. It wouldn't exist if they hadn't done so. Forty years later someone does a great cover of it, but it has to exist in the first place for anyone to be able to cover it. This cover is a great, truthful and respectful homage, made in 2023 by fantastic musicians with all the resources and technology available to them. There are plenty of singers better than John Lennon but when they cover a Beatles song it doesn't make it 'better' than the Beatles.
@@amandopiano4291 There is something wrong with your ear if you truly think this cover, while it’s very well done and sung, is better than the original. They would have a record deal and should have a #1 hit song already.
I take it Darren is a Spandau Ballet fan because it’s so evident in his voice how much fun he has singing this New Romantic era classic, as if he was born to sing it. The tone of his voice, the rhythm of the guitar and the hot sax solo were just mesmerizing. Well done boys!!! I didn’t think it was possible, but I think I enjoy each weekly video more and more!!!!

I am so, SO pleased to see Sam Leske back! Loved his sound in tracks with that other mob, esp Chuck E's In Love. More Sam! Damien, you are one cool cat - so laid back, it almost looks like you are playing in slo-mo. Jack Degenhart, moonlighting as Steve Norman with that gorgeous sax sound. Darren...swoon 😍💋not many voices truly suit taking on Tony Hadley, but yours does. With any luck my other equal favourite Spandau songs along with this one - 'Gold' and 'I'll Fly For You' - are on the list sometime.

Crazy good version. It was great, then that sax really nailed it for me.
Not a song I'm familiar with, but the professionalism, quality, and sense of cool make me want to hear it over again.
My first time listening is almost always on my Samsung Flip 4. It has a crappy speaker and still your music sounds great. Subsequently I listen on proper speakers and sometimes through headphones.
I always test my mixes on my mobile knowing a large percentage will view/listen that way. Glad you like it. Darren M

As usually, perfect playing and musicianship. Bravo!!! This cover revealed how smart this song is arranged and produced. For that matter, Spandau Ballet is underestimated. But, this is not the reason why I decided to leave here a comment. Mr Hadley is such a great singer, but I think he is also underestimated - his soulful, melodic and slick singing is really top of the notch. Therefore, a huge BRAVISSIMO goes to Darren, for his singing on this cover. Man, you've succeed to catch all those Tony's nuances and "ornaments". That's outstanding! My hat, as musician, goes down! 🙌🙌🙌

I didn't know that song but what a great song and performance. But what struck me from the very beginning was how rich the sound and mix is. Every instrument and vocals and every nuance was crystal clear and balanced perfectly. I may need to listen to this multiple times focusing on each instrument in each separate listening. Awesome!!! ❤

Guitar and bass were killing it.
Multiple reasons for excitement tonight. The clocks have changed in the UK so us Brits now have 6 months of the new tracks dropping at 2200 on a Friday, less late nights waiting up. An excellent song choice. And Damo up front with Darren's glasses! What more do we need? Such a smooth track, not the obvious one you would think for a heavy sax, but it's surprising how much I still know this word for word. You'd think I grew up in the 80's! When you realise that the various artists who are brought together to record these sometimes have a very short lead time, it's even more satisfying.
