Finish Grading A New Construction Yard

  • Finish grading a new construction yard. Back at where I rough graded and extended the culvert pipe to finish it up. I had Lonnie haul me 8 loads of dirt, I really wanted 12 but it wasn't in the budget with the framing being so much more expensive so I made the 8 work. Then Dad helped seed and straw it for me cause I was tied up on another job. Thanks for watching! #EliteEarthworks #Takeuchi #finishgrading

    Floating grade in a skid steer (also known as float mode) is an advanced technique learned from lots of 'seat time' in the machine. Thank you for the Master Class.

      @@eliteearthworksllc Probably just regional differences and distinctions in vocabulary; but, in my area (northern Utah) floating grade or 'float mode' means using a skid steer's bucket to grade an area by dragging it in reverse while it's resting on the ground. The bucket's weight and flat edge help to fill in low spots and lower high spots, creating a final grade that matches the level of existing fixtures.

    The part I don't understand is how do you give it a slope using the skid steer? From what I can see the slope was already there, and skid steer rides the slope. But what if you have a flat terrain and want to create a grading away from the house when there is none? Does the skid steer is able to tilt the front bucket to a particular angle?

    • @eliteearthworksllc
      @eliteearthworksllc  3 місяці тому

      They make tilt attachments for the buckets but I just add a little dirt on one side to raise that track up to create an angle and start cutting with the bucket then once you have your desired slope you can knock that dirt down

    So do you eyeball for your finish grades? and how do you calculate how much topsoil to bring in? Fairly new to grading work and I am quoting a rather large new build project. Final grade for a yard/sod/irrigation .Roughly 31,500 SQft

    • @eliteearthworksllc
      @eliteearthworksllc  2 роки тому +1

      Yeah I usually eyeball my grading work unless I don’t have much fall and need a swale. I sometimes guess on the loads. The there is a rock calculator on google I use to figure dirt as well it gets you close. It depends on how much dirt you want over that 31k sq ft. I try to put 6” down so you may be looking at 25-30 loads of dirt. You can get by with 4” but much less and the grass has a hard time growing

    • @tylergarza1738
      @tylergarza1738 2 роки тому

      @@eliteearthworksllc Maybe if I can get 6" or so up around the house and if it has to be for cost sake have slightly less further out.
