Hi Robbie! We have lots of leftover plastic cat treat containers that have a little angled flip-top on the removable lid. We drill holes in the bottom and sides and use those in our 5 gallon grow buckets as they're just the right size. But the inspiration to use what we have came from you and now they don't go into the landfill! Thank you for your creative ideas!!

I just knew it will work perfectly cause all my compost in place totes I have done almost three months ago have been turned into black soil! I knew that this will be a super way to make beautiful organic soil for the plants. I've done this to my zucchinis and my cucumbers when I saw your video!!!! I knew this will perfectly work. And as I'm cooking I get out on my balconies and throw the kitchen scrubs in there. It's so easy!
Oh, and you know....no earthworms for me...but everything is breaking down.
You've made my totes happy and me too!!! ❣️
I think that the trellis system with the tubes, the tulle ( I have it all over my plants) and this one are my favourites "must do" !!! Love them!!! 🤗❤️🐝

Robbie, I've watched just about ALL your videos. This is a great idea and is a variation on the "mobil unit" when you used coffee containers (sour cream etc). I use large coffee containers (at least 10" tall) in exactly the same way and are buried almost up to the top. If anyone wants the lid to come off easier, they just clip the side of the lid. It stays secure and is easy to get off...even with my arthritis.

Robbie you can't have enough colour in your life - it makes everyone happy : )
Another amazing video as usual - I so love your enthusiasm.
The post below made me think (where do the worms come from?) of a "mistake" I made. I inherited an old metal dustbin (trash can) and I decided that I was going to make some liquid plant food for my garden but I forgot to make a "tea bag" out of a hessian bag to put the weeds and garden waste in before I added the water. Of course when I took the lid off the can it was a disgusting smelly mess so I procrastinated and decided to just leave it and get back to it when I was in the mood to tackle it - that was a long time ago : ( The other day I decided to put my big girl pants on and do something about it. Guess what? The whole stinkin, pongy, concoction is absolutely teeming with massive compost worms! So "if you build it they'll come" Ha Ha

Hi Robbie, I'm doing the small container gardening. Would like your opinion. I'd like to modify the pitcher idea using a 16.9 oz plastic water bottle. Put holes in the cap and up/down sides. Cut bottom off and use as the lid that will fit around the opening that I'll put scraps in. I'll Bury ( lid size down ) about 1/2 of bottle. Do you think it's TOO small? Thoughts? Today we are having some hot muggy So. Cal weather in Seattle. I was born/raised down there. I miss so many aspects especially beaches/sun but it's changed drastically since 1956! You've got the perfect spot that's secluded, full of nature and land. I'm A flight attendant now so in 2011 I moved from my 5 acre home on the Olympic Peninsula To 7 minutes from SeaTac Airport. But!... I bought a perfect little home for $86,000 and I've created my own little paradise a couple blocks from a river perfect for kayaking, and where, unless you try to find a spot to look in my wooden fenced yard to see me, I'm all nature with fruit trees, berry bushes, cedar and oak like trees, conifer hedging, wisteria, jasmine, ferns, clematis, climbing vines, and other amazing vegetation. Yes it's a lot of work but it's mine. My place reminds me of yours: I have my 2 cats, birds, squirrels, rabbits, crows, hummingbirds, now a CONTAINER VEGETABLE GARDEN (BECAUSE OF YOU). A delivery girl said she felt like she was walking into a fairy garden through my arbor. I am blessed. My wildlife
get fed daily but it's my vegetables that are suffering a bit because I think they need the scrap feeder for better nutrition. I've been doing what you do trim vegetables and push the stems and leaves into the dirt. I always think of you when I do it and I'm so proud of myself for not putting all my scraps and cuttings into the yard waste bin now. I'll sometimes throw bits under a tree or bush. lol
It's getting late in the season but I want to grow more zucchini - mostly because I'm getting more males and me pollinating the new females is hit and miss. Wouldn't you know the Bees are finally coming around now! So maybe the water bottle scrap bin will help give me a new crop quicker? I hope it won't be too small.

My plants are easily 4-5 times the size of my older plants! I'm a sworn believer!!!

😊 I just can't get enough of your tips, tricks, talent, and personality Robbie! I was feeling depressed and overwhelmed at how much I have to do at home and seeing my container garden from last year just sitting there and me with low energy at daunting tasks. Although my potatoes are regrowing in their grow bags! But watching your videos inspires me and gives me a feeling of energy to get things growing. I bought another plastic kiddie pool (my other is used for compost from last year) and I'm going to grow my beloved zucchini garden in there using your tubing and rebar for trellises. I've got plastic water bottles I'll use as the compost containers to put around it, and all my other containers with all the other veggies I'm going to grow.
Although I'm still on medical leave from a TBI a few years ago, I'm so thankful I've had the time off, otherwise I wouldn't have found you and Gary and been inspired to container garden. Heck, even garden at all! My doctor encouraged me to do it as the other household and yard tasks, and my physical therapies were taxing my brain and my energy.
So a big ❤ of appreciation to you both. And what I don't eat what I grow, I'll compost it and feed my feed wrigglers!

Amazing! I will have to get me some pitchers. I just love your videosbecause they are so informative. Oh! I have to tell you what I saw in my yard and they are staying in my woods! Two yellow billed cuckoos. They are so pretty and their calls are so different than any bird that I have ever heard. I had to do some research to figure out what they were because it was my first time ever seeing them. I was so excited 😊

Wow I got so excited when you empty the container and saw all the worms. This is what I've been looking for. I have a big composted but wanted something smaller to see the worms.

    Ok-- this is a-MAZING!! BRILLIANT!!
I subscribe and enjoy learning from you and hearing about how your garden is, and your little visitors, and your cheery enthusiastic narrative. So much i have improved my practical gardening knowledge from you. But this idea should go viral-- it's so brilliant!! Simple! Inexpensive! Repurposing & thrifty! POSITIVE in every possible way!
Do you do garden tours ? I'm in WA, but would love to sometime come see your projects and your garden. PM me if maybe next year that might be ok. I come down to SD area about every 5 yrs, and see House Rabbit Society friends.
    Well done, Robbie!

12-22 and 12-23 and it's 10º ans 9º in mid-central Alabama. Brought in the turmeric but garlic pots were frozen to tabletop. Collards happy, freezing supposed to make them sweet. Eager for Spring. ♥

Hi Robbie, I have a question that I'm sure you can answer. I planted Sugar Baby Watermelons this year and I'm just now harvesting the really awesome fruit. Should I leave the vines or put them in compost? Will they blossom again or are they done? Thank you. Love the videos! Btw, I'm using your two bucket system in my traditional garden and it is working great feeding the plants! Thank you!!!

Since your totes are up high on chairs, I wonder how the worms got up there ? , maybe they were in the tote soil already. Nice to see earth worms breaking down green scraps . Earthworms can drown in puddles of water so I wonder how your worms are doing so well in such moist soil. I do grow in Vego beds mainly but also have some totes with drilled hole drainage which I place on the ground so the worms can come up into the totes if they want to. I like your compost method which was a good visual ,but I would just dig down in the soil to bury it.

Herbal tbags, they are already speoutin leaves. I put them in a cottage cheese container with coffee grounds. My aloe and tomatoes love it

Yes, I am not at home, My first compost was really stinky, so I started one with only coffee grounds. I guess some plants love the acid, my cousin said stawberries love it too.
