Back in year 8, I made a four foot long dragon from papermache. It was honestly spectacular. It was so huge and heavy that its hindlegs splayed out too much and I had to remove them.
It was actually the second largest papermache creation that anyone had made at my school. (The first being an alligator, but it was essentially a canoe & didnt have the structure or detail that my dragon did)
I was uber proud of my dopey wonky dragon bois (I say bois plural becuase he had two heads lol)

If you’re using the water/flour mixture you have to cook it until it boils and let it cool before use it. The mixture has to look white/transparent...ish. In México we call it “engrudo” and is what artisans use for piñatas and giant alebrijes (small ones are made of wood).
I hope you try it and let us know if it works better that way.
    Sincerely, a devote grain :3

They are both terms, essentially as far as I am aware an “artist” creates something that serves purely as aesthetic or decoration, while an “artisan” typically makes something with a more functional use while still having an artistic flair. It really depends on the personal definitions of each term.

Sandra, that's just not true. You CAN boil flour/water paste to make a different type of glue, but you don't have to. And flour/water glue will never turn clear. Cornstarch/water mixture does make a clear glue when boiled. Maybe that's what you're thinking of. It would also work for paper mache.

I've never seen paper towels used for it or putting it in the oven. Cool video I like the bird you made.

the only problem with the flour-water paper mache glue, is that it can allow mould to grow on the inside of projects (if they’re hollow) and on the outside if left too long without some sort of paint or lacquer. my parents used to make paper mache all the time, and once made a really cool dragon head. unfortunately the climate of australia, the location of our crusty garage, and about two weeks of negligence, it soon speouted mould on the inside 😞
