I've been on Tumblr for a long time, trust me, more people were angry about the taking of people's bones. Especially since those bones were most likely of people of color so they saw this as not only being disrespectful to the dead and their descendants, but racist as well.

@@Dimitri88888888 I think their descendants would care though. Especially if it's a white person taking bones of black people. I mean, haven't we stolen enough from them? Plus there's a huge problem of cultural appropriation in the witch community. Wiccans trying to preform voodoo (which is actually a monotheistic religion and most people who practice voodoo are either Catholic or Baptist Christians - and you have to be invited in if you're not black), using white sage which is really only supposed to be used by Native Americans unless gifted to you - plus white sage is getting harder and harder to come by due to white people using it. And just tons of other crap. I mean, some of the witches might as well go join the KKK along with anti-vaxxers.
Now most are decent people who don't steal from other cultures without permission and call out these racists. But sadly their voices are often drowned out by other racists who are all "Don't tell me not to summon the Loa! I can do what I want because I'm a white witch!"

When I was in high school, I took forensic science and one of the things we did was study information about the human skeletal system. During the time we were studying this section, our teacher brought out a skeleton that was missing a few limbs and bones, and explained that we may examine it, but acknowledged that it was a real human skeleton. I clearly remembered her telling us: “Please treat these bones with respect. These belonged to a real person who donated their body to science, and even after their death, they deserve respect, even in the name of science.” I’ve always kept this sentiment at heart because I feel like a lot of people don’t understand the importance that comes with respecting and admiring people even after their deaths. Seeing this just makes me really disappointed in the fact that there’s stupid tumblr girls that disregard the respect that these bodies deserve and instead just rob their shit from graves just to satisfy their stupid experiments or beliefs. I feel like at this point even cannibalistic tribes have more respect for dead bodies than these buffoons do.

Atleast the cannibalistic tribes, for the most part, use them to make tools, clothing, or at the very least fertilizer, furthering the remains life as something extremely useful or being put back into the earth to give life to crops or plants. Like if I had died and my remains where converted into a spear and a bunch of knives, that would be kind of cool.

    • @gabe_s_videos

What makes it especially frustrating is that, to them, they WERE respecting the remains, albeit in a "waste not, want not" kind of way, not a "let this person rest in peace" kind of way. Personally, I'd think a better way to respect these people's remains that were getting washed away into the gutter by rain and then chucked in the garbage would be to take them out of the garbage an re-bury them, but it's clear that whoever did this didn't want to respect anyone but themselves.

Some people, including religious people, think science is like a religion, that science has dogmas but that is not how science works.
Science is not something you "believe in", science is something that gives you answers to reality and sometimes, you can't find the answer.
Religious people believe that not having answers to everything means failure but the difference between me and a person who believes in religion, is that I acknowledge that we humans don't have answers to everything.
We are very far from finding everything in this universe, hell, we don't know even how it was created! the big bang theory is not very believable, even for its creator and I don't believe in it too.
That's the other great thing about science, we have theories, not dogma, you do not need to believe in every theory.

I know dead people can't really care, but I imagine nobody who doesn't donate their body to science or cremation or something wants their remains to be destroyed... I imagine so many of these poor people are forgotten to time, washed up out of their graves, no longer "connected" to their gravestones if they ever even had one, nameless, and now the last remainder of their existence, of who they were, is being destroyed by some edgelord body burglar.

Fortunately, adulthood tends to put out most of the people doing it just to be demonstrative and in the end it is truly sad to watch the idea of [and not a legitimate belief in, which is not necessarily as disingenuous and hard to watch] such things become the thing that defines a person's public persona. I grew up in the second most populated County in Kansas, in a semi-rural area, so everything was pretty much a white person thing until I started working in more diverse areas. Yeah, I gave up on Tumblr, but I won’t say anything about someone _just_ for being a Tumblr user. I migrated to Reddit, and 10/10 we have our shitstorms, but pretty friendly and balanced subreddits are still there, and I’ve found it’s _generally_ easier to avoid the nasty places and people by just staying the hell away from those subreddits....usually.

My sister is non-practicing Wiccan, and my mom's Pagan (she considers herself a Green Witch). They themselves do not do curses and hexes but do know practicing witches and warlocks who do, and they're NOTHING like this. In a lot of Pagan circles it's actually considered extremely magically bad to use human remains without the dead's express consent, unless it's part of your cultural practice or they're family remains or something. It's considered in a way to be karmically dangerous. It's not so much her using human bones that is the issue here, the issue is that she used bones that were NOT from her family and NOT freely given; bones that came from the poor and ethnically oppressed. You don't just leave offerings to the dead and then take bones like that in most Pagan practice, it's considered morally ambiguous at best and really not a good idea at worst because it's basically bad juju. It's disrespectful on a spiritual level. In fact I'm pretty sure no Kemetic witch worth their salt would ever do this because it's just... not worth it, for the same reason one may use their own blood in a spell but NOT someone else's blood.

EarthBound music for these vids is simultaneously the most unfitting and perfectly fitting thing ever.

I love it when niche groups turn on each other and engage in internecine warfare. It's funny to see what petty differences actually mean life and death to them during a nerd war.

Like when Old School Runescape users had a meltdown on their subreddit over whether or not they were going to have a pride day celebration that was optional to even do.

I remember in human anatomy labs at university we'd have real human bones to label. Over the few weeks we covered the skeletal system the lab groups each had their own skeleton we named. At first it weirded me out then I got used to it, referred to Melba as the 6th member of our lab group.
But those were people who donated their bodies to science.

To be honest even that still feels more respectful than this crap. At least it was being sort of treated like a person, not as fodder for occulty shit.

That's the thing, this story would not be egregious if she only had looked for people that donated their damn remains, for all you know in life they believed that they'd be damned if their remains were messed with posthumously.
Only way to ethically use human remains is to have express permission, simple as.
