THIS IS A MONUMENTAL ALBUM OF THE BIRTH OF ELECTRONIC MUSIC AND IN 1988 808 STATE RELEASED THEIR FIRST ALBUM "NEWBUILD" FOR THE NEXT EVENT : WWW.PROMISEDLAND.CO.UK
They were incredibly young and learned all of this so quickly! They were just kids when they started out with this and ended up with "exceptional heads!"

Recorded in a weekend on news tape 808 State recovered from a skip! Just heard the story on BBC 5 Live's Nihal show where 808 State were in to talk about their 30th anniversary. The album obviously inspired by their clubbing at the Hacienda and the Acid House vibe.
Everyone always goes on.. says fac51... the hac... the spinmasters were at the thunderdome..... mcr had some many dark heavy clubs.... miles platting.... rather than dicks reading ID magazine saying that mcr was cool... we was on it way way before it hit... fact... how do I know ..I was there Lol...
@@stephenjackson4195 Gerald played at one of my warehouse parties in the late 80's. Amazing sounds from a variety of cheap equipment all linked together on a table like at a car boot sale. We couldn't believe he could do it with that stuff. You can't keep talent down.
I've loved this album for years & years. It's got a more polished feel than Prebuild, parts of which sounded like a demo tape as some of it is in mono. But it's still raw sounding enough to be a solid early british acid/ techno album; there's no software sequencer(s) on this. It's all drum machines, sh101, tb303, roland juno (106 or 60) et al , with built in hardware sequencers doing their thing. This was when Gerald Simpson and Martyn Price were part of the group. Everyone knows about A Guy Called Gerald (and rightly so), but what happened to Martyn?
I know it's been two years, but thanks for the recommendation on Newcleus. Never heard of them before, but they sound like a band I want to get to know.
In one snapshot, Newbuild captured the mood of the British underground house music movement in 1988. A true landmark album for the discerning listener. 808 State, influenced by electronic genres managed to forge, cement and push the boundaries creatively - Setting the foundations for UK house music. The sheer rawness of "Flow Coma" are a must.
I love the low quality feel of all this early acid/techno, I think most dance music nowadays is over produced, still got this album, had it from release ✌🏼
Yes, this is a classic electronic music album for a reason (high quality and very influential)), but um, no, it is not the birth of electronic music. lol Acid House did lead directly to the phenomenon of raves in Europe, but that's not quite the same as the birth of electronic music.
This is not the first house music but as far as i can find its the first album of house music from an era where techno was primarily dominated by singles. if anyone knows of an earlier solid album of house music other than e2-e4 plz let me know.
There are very few, there are only 6 house albums listed for the whole of 1987 on RateYourMusic and none listed for 1986 so it was indeed a very early one. If you count E2-E4 as house (I don't) then it's the first full house album. rateyourmusic.com/customchart?page=1&chart_type=top&type=album&year=1987&genre_include=1&include_child_genres=1&genres=house&include_child_genres_chk=1&include=both&origin_countries=&limit=none&countries=

Flow coma is one of my fave acid tracks of all time.
Perfect album from start to finish
Back when 808 State's brand of Acid House very much still had that Chicago flavour.
¡ fuera de serie !!
Still got my copy of this I bought 32 years ago.. and United States 90
They were incredibly young and learned all of this so quickly! They were just kids when they started out with this and ended up with "exceptional heads!"
Gerald was the young one at 21 years old . Martin price was 32 years old and Graham massey was 28 at the time of this albums release
There wasn't social network. People had the time to do.

...After last sound from album
I yelled out "Woooo!, God damn!"
Danced the whole way through!
Regardless of recording quality etc. On of my favorite albums of all time. Cheers to Rephlex for having repressed it on vinyl.

It's awesome, but 808 `90 is even better!
I always until now thought 90 was their first album! So glad I've found this. I'd better get playing catch up!! Thanks for the upload!!
Another spotify user
Pandora premium is better 😂
@@cuppajoesugar Another pretentious asshole
This is the album inspired Aphex Twin to make music! So glad to hear it today!

England do it best. FACT.🎛🎚🏴
just saw an interview with Squarepusher (with Fantano) where he says the same...
is that actually true?!
@@benignword8233 no lol he never said anything remotely like that
One of my faves of all time!
What a time to be alive. The 3rd generation. 1st = Kraftwerk. 2nd = Newcleus. 3rd = 808 State.
I know it's been two years, but thanks for the recommendation on Newcleus. Never heard of them before, but they sound like a band I want to get to know.
Loved 808 back in the day and still do .

Sounds like it was recorded in the basement at Eastern bloc.quality reverb work

"Compulsion" is awesome
Love this record
Super cool 808!!
Flow coma, I think I'm just coming out of mine 30 odd years later.
Our natural evolution happens through awakenings, whether we believe in anything spiritual or not.
this classic influenced the master Aphex Twin.
West African influences on polyrhythms
808 heaven acid house all the way thats the way i like it ha ha
album is ahead of its time
Literally is
Solid
!
Whoo whoo!
7:24 Prodigy lifted this 303 line for their song Speedway

808 State brought me here
#2021
This is great and everything, but do you have it on CD?
The birth of electronic music? No, not quite.
the birht of acid house :)
No one mentions kraftwerk?
Acording to the wikipedia page for acid house phuture with acid trax was the first to do acid house.
@@examplejohn5781 …or Cabaret Voltaire!
@@Batyste-YUGI Acid House was invented in Chicago around 1985 or something
And the kitchen sink in this one 😮
microdot strawberry purple om etc the best acid in rockdale drop it and get on 1 ha ha ha
Björk brought me here
As a matter of fact, Björk's Debut and Post etc. have a lot to do with 808State, without them she would have done it quite different..

E2-E4 clearly isn't house.
Jacktrax volume 1 to 5
The twins remix of flow coma was on point.
Why is this so hard to find?
minus birth of electronic music, plus techno and evolution of acid house outside of the US. flow coma 6:19 is esp. seminal.
At 12:57 can anybody else make themselves hear either "Push It" or "Horse Shit"?
Or even "Bull Shit"
drain gang
I like narcosis
24:50
still dated tho
ACID😐
this never get old men now the disco suks alot
Their not called 909 State for a good reason.
I have to say I'm a bit disappointed by this album :/ their follow ups were far better! :) I really like Sync/Swim and Narcossa though :)
Horse shit it sounds like its saying at 14.44
God, this album is tedious.
Take some lsd,and you will understand .
Take an E or piss off
