- More than 300 years ago, courageous Africans escaped from enslavement in British colonies. They fledsouthward on foot to Spanish St. Augustine, crossing swamps and dense tropical forests. Along they way, they sought assistance from Natives, thus creating the first ‘underground railroad’.
Not all survived. Those who reached St. Augustine were granted asylum by the Spanish government. It was a unique offer-freedom, in exchange for conversion to Catholicism and, for men, a term of military service. The first freedom seekers arrived in 1687. This group included eight men, two women and a three-year-old nursing child.
Fun fact, Spain legalized interracial marriage in 1514. In the United States, due to anti-miscegenation laws, it was not legal until 1967, more than 4 and a half centuries later.
Buen video y gracias por acordaros de España.Un abrazo desde Madrid.🇪🇦🙋❌❌✝️🙏🇺🇸
Fort Mose was the first place in the United Estates where, under the Spanish flag, the enslaved Africans, could find their liberty. In this fort the slaves were given refuge, paid jobs and freedom. Viva España!
❤ I love the way you explained it I wish they'd show this to students in miami dade public school ❤😊
Black and Spanish ❤❤coolest 😎 mix
A detail that is frequently ignored is that by the treaty of Tordesillas, ALL of the Western Hemisphere, including the west coast of Greenland, but minus the extreme east coast of what is now Brazil, legally was Spanish territory.
❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉
🇪🇸❤️🌍❤️🇪🇸
The Spanish were better than the English, Americans and French.
Seeing the model of conquest of Spain 🇪🇸 in comparison to the English and their American children or the French... I can't believe that we are the ones who drag a bad reputation for the conquest of America. If you take an ethnic map of the entire American continent and see the areas controlled by each one you see that in those of the Spaniards there was miscegenation. Pongamls End to the Black Legend
España evangelizó, hermano y humanizó a medio Mundo.Orgulloso de ser español y de aquella hermandad.La Hispanidad es multicolor.Un abrazo desde Madrid y gracias por el vídeo.🇪🇦🙋❌❌❌✝️🙏

I Love visiting this place I enjoy the spirits and energy
It's very inappropriate to talk about spanish "colonies". Spain had no colonies

Becoming baptized Catholics made all Africans members of the kingdom of Spain with all the rights and responsibilities as that of citizens living in Spain or elsewhere.
Beautiful tears in my eyes right now.
Recuerdos desde la España peninsular, hay que restaurar la monarquía hispánica
Wow.
I always wondered in the 90's and 90's when i would watch college football especially from florida players would have names like Cortez Kennedy, Santana Moss, Brian Blades.
Finally a video, most people ignores this tales, maybe because British or the colonies doesn't want to look like the bad guy, it is important that most blacks were British runaway slaves like Francisco Menendez that rose to the rank of Captain, all they need to do was to be baptized to the catholic faith. And hw was not the only one, Juan Latin was friend of the brother of the King of Spain, Juan de Austria and became an university teacher in Granada, something impossible in any other European country
I like the part when the Spanish didn't come up with their own Southern Revisionism like these Racist Yall Queda goons do. High Five!
That's Dennis Rodman picture.
Just visited Fort Mose a couple of hours ago. I’m in complete awe! I have to go back!
It’s amazing how people of European descent thinks all people of dark skin came from Africa when in fact aboriginal people of colored were already here. Also there were no people called African Americans during those times. That term came about in 1988. So your documentary is inaccurate.
@@havenmist2216 I don’t think all Europeans had or have white skin . I’m aware people of colored were the founding fathers of this country bringing there white slaves here.
@@stevenredclay6506 thanks for informing the people bro. EYE SEE YOU KING
Europeos no, ESPAÑOLES
Your an Afro-Saxon, your opinion does not matter.
