Great tutorial, just what I was looking for! Thanks! What I did, I took a rubber O ring with the same diameter size of the rubber inserts that Nikon used. (It was a spare o-ring that came with a led flashlight) I cut 3 pieces of the same length as the original, I found one, the other two were missing. I glued them in place with a drop of CA glue. After that I put a little silicone grease over the rubber pieces. Put it back together and it’s running smoothly. For the punctual people, if you put back the rubber caps with a little glue, watch the marks with the up and down, so it will be on top just like the other eye piece.
Thanks for posting this video, I didn't realize the cups screwed out. Two differences with my Monarch 7 (2016): the cups screw out to the left and there are three press fit metal pins that are pushed out instead of the screws.
Thanks for that James, my monarch 7 is the same, I couldnt get the small piece of wire to stay put, so I just stuck 3 layers of electrical tape in the same place to create resistance, it doesnt click now, but its ok for me, and can be easily replaced if it loosens over time.
@@david800c hey! did you manage to get the pins out? if so, how did you do it? i'm trying to push them through the outer ring into the center but they haven't budged
I was able to save and reuse those small rubber pieces, and they worked all fine. I also added silicone grease to the sliding surface to make it work even smoother. Silicon grease also helped to replace the rubber pieces by stucking them on their places while reassembling the thing. Thanks for the great video!
Nice solution. I am trying to repair some vintage Tasco's that have a different eyepiece design, but also seem to be missing a key for the eyepiece adjustment slot - probably something similar to that foam. This gives me some new ideas to try out.
A big ‘thank you’ from Denmark! To those trying it: Dont wonder that it doesnt seem to work until you have fully assambled it. It only works with the skrews in.
Thank you so much for this. Mine was staying out, but the clicking was gone. The rubbers had deteriorated and become squashed in the grooves. The outer rubber ring had come off (glue failed), so mine was an easier fix, on the binoculars.
The wire trick is a lifesaver as I lost the original thingie. Do you know what the specification is of the screw? I’m missing one and Nikon haven’t responded to my query about replacing it yet.
Great video, thank you so much. Has anyone tried this with Zeiss Conquest? This is the second time the eyepiece has come off. First time it took Zeiss several months to get them back to me from Europe.
thats Brillant, i think that will really help me fix mine, different model and brand, howerver my question is iam doing the right hand one which has the diopter adjustment on, and i'am finding when i screw the eye piece back on tightly so it funny seated it locks the diopter ring up so it can not be adjusted , but if i slaken it off a tad its ok , should the eyecup screw piece be used lith a thread glue ??? ( i dont mean the rubber eye piece i mean the part you unscrewed at 1m13s.., looking forward to any replies , thnaks
I lost one of my eyecups and need to repair the other one, do you know which one I need to buy for Nikon Trailblazer 10x50? The eyecup looks identical to the monarch eyecup. Thanks in advance for any help.
Because Jerry Can I’d use something like hot glue just so it’s not permanent. Just wait for it to cool and be just a little tacky. Or rubber cement maybe?
My eye cup was jammed in position. Your video helped me fix the problem and now the eye cup "clicks" into position(s) correctly. Thanks.
This is brilliant. I've needed to repair this problem my Nikon Aculons for over a year. 15 minute fix and they're all good!

Thanks for the tip. Didn't notice that I had put the cup on in a different position to the other one!

@@tapercocoon I just pushed them out with a small screwdriver, they were tight to begin with
@@david800c Hey! Thanks for the helpful vid. For the Monarch 7, did you use a wire and electrical tape, or just the tape?
Also, any clue what would be a good glue to stick the rubber piece back on? Mine is loose after trying the repair

Spot on repair procedure, simply explained, my Nikon Monarch binos back in service, many thanks Roy
Thanks! Saved me sending my binos back to Nikon for repair.
Super helpful video! I followed your instructions and -- Voila! -- now the eyepiece works like new. Thanks for the instructional video.
Thank you very much! I repaired my Monarch 5 8x42! I almost buy a new one M5. Now I will let Nikon wait for some time.
Exactly what I was looking for ... cheers!

Great video, truly appreciate how fast you get down to brass tacks!
So glad I found this video. Binoculars back as they should be. Thank you!
awesome video ! You helped me to NOT break my binoculars today !
A big ‘thank you’ from Denmark! To those trying it: Dont wonder that it doesnt seem to work until you have fully assambled it. It only works with the skrews in.
i've had this happen twice on my Monarchs, both times Nikon fixed it for free under warranty. Next time I'll try your method.
They refuse to fix it for me under warranty. Say eyecups are wear and tear items. Morons.

Nice job! I picked up fine sand hunting WYO and the noise they make drives me crazy. I am going to try this when I get home. Thx again!
Just what I was looking for. Thank you!!!!
Very informative video and the commentary had me rollin.
Excellent! Thank you. Love my binocs except for that problem!
Actually works! Nice one! One less thing to stress me out 😂
Awesome video. I need to do this with my old Nikon Binos. Thanks!
For anyone wondering what gauge wire, I used 22 AWG stranded wire and it worked like a charm
Perfect - worked for me just fine, thanks!
The wire trick is a lifesaver as I lost the original thingie. Do you know what the specification is of the screw? I’m missing one and Nikon haven’t responded to my query about replacing it yet.
Great video👍😊. What size wire did you use? Do you have a link on where to buy the wire?
This is basically the same as the Monarch 7, except the eye cups don't have screws -- they have pegs that slide. You can push them out with tweezers.
Oh man! Thanks for the video. Fixed!
Great video, very helpful
VERY NICE!

A++ would cup again
Thanks for the instructint video! Any idea where to get the replacement eyecups from?

Now if they would just do something about the wrong size eye relief protective covers they give you with your $300 binoculars.
Are the nikon action ex eyecups the same ones as in monarch?
What glue should I be using. I use Zeiss and the eyecup comes off pretty easily. Thanks.
Because Jerry Can I’d use something like hot glue just so it’s not permanent. Just wait for it to cool and be just a little tacky. Or rubber cement maybe?
great video, whered you find a replacement eyecup?
jon Legend I used the original one. Thankfully I didn’t lose it! Just those little inserts.
Which mm/gauge wire do you use for this? The wires on offer here are all too big :(
Daanjan Wisselink its likely 22-24 gauge. Anything that can fit in the grooves but stick out just a little bit.
Nice, thank you. But please don't chuck your binoculars on the work surface!
Has anyone done this repair on Avalon 10x34? I'm wondering if they work the same
mine will not move
What gauge is the wire you used?
My cap is just not budging and I'm nervous of (force) turning it right to loosen... was this the case for anybody else?
Twist to the left if you have a pair of Monarch 7s. It's safe to turn. You really have to turn hard. It won't break anything.
Yes, cannot get them to open. They are stuck it seems.
what size screw driver did you use?
Literally the smallest one I had.
Looks like a typical problem for these binos. I won't be able to fix it...
Very nice 👌👍👍👍
